I was just thinking about a lot of people and about an old game that i used to play called Everquest.... This was an incredibly addicting game and since so many more people have begun to play now the price has gone up to something like 13 dollars a month. The thing is, i had played it for about a year or two, and then got bored and realized it was a waste of life, time, and money. But the fact is that it was so fun, and that i want to play it again, but i still think the same thing, when i stop i always think its a waste of time and money. One time my dad asked why i play those games. I said to him, i guess its because its like a perfect reality that i could live in, if it were real i would like life to be that way in some sorts, you live the character... As for myself as you can see i have a lot of issues.. It's so fun but it doesn't get me anywhere in life. I used to play the game a ton because it gets my mind off things, i can just go on and have fun with friends in real life or online, and its an easier way i guess..
I think a lot of kids that play online games have had, or have this problem... :( I do not know what to do

one of the reasons I left my first ex fiance was because of his obsession with Age of the Empires...
he would play all night, not realizing how long he spent, meanwhile we would have plans, I would bug him and bug him, then give up because I didn't want to nag... by the time he would be done it was 2am... can't go out then.

it was only till after we broke up he apologized to me, I guess he had a freind over, and they were supposed to go out, and his friend ended up playing all night, while he sat and waited...

He only had to do it for one night.. I did it for 2 years!
not a happy picture.

it really is amazing how addictive they are. I was the production assisstant for a computer game a few years back, and it was enought having to "live" the game while it was being created.

Good for you for realizing that there is other things out there. :)

The only game I played excessively was Fallout 2. Now THAT was a classic. But I never played to the exclusion of other activities.

*Hi. My Name is Starlite. And I'm addicted to The Sims ONline*

I play way too much. I know this. But I'm on line CONSTANTLY. If I'm not playing SIMS, I'm here at MW or the UA boards or playing Collapse. But I also go outside and hang out with real people.

The key to any game, and believe me, we're HUGE gamers in my house from computer games to strategy to D&D, is balance. You have to work, eat, sleep, spend time with REAL people and most importantly, live your life. :D

Yes, I'm an addict. I'll freely admit it. But at least I know it. Isn't that half the battle. ;)

I think that's the nature of RPGs now - more in depth, more detailed and more life consuming.

I go through phases with these kinds of games myself - I'll go for months without playing, then suddenly I'll decide to try one out and then I'm into it the next couple of weeks. Sometimes I'm up waaay to late and am tired at work the next day, but that's about it.

I have a friend who was also into Everquest. There were a couple of times a group of us were supposed to get together, and he'd end up staying in to play. Not to mention numerous fights with his wife about how much he was playing...and not being able to call him because he was online for hours on end.

At that point, you might want to consider turning that game off and stepping back into the real world...:eyebrow:

Anyway - there are a lot of things we do that can be considered a waste of time. It's really more a matter of how much time you spend doing it and whether or not it affects the important things in your life.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to steal a mace for my Guild Master...:D

Oh dear, the Sims! When I was in my final year at school I had lots of free class periods so I would end up back home, playing the Sims. It was awful, but so much fun. Just glad I moved out when I did, otherwise it could have become a real problem.

ah yes. EverCrack, as I like to call it...My friend's boyfriend is addicted, and she used to be, but we dragged her out of it. This girl used to sit in her closet (her apartment was too small, so her comp was in her closet) all day after or before work, and the piles of coke cans were so ridiculous that she finally snapped out of it (thank goodness). My boyfriend plays counterstrike a LOT, or rather, he used to, but since we've lost our internet for..ah..threem onths so far, he hasn't been able to touch it. I'm hoping maybe he lost hisinterest for it ^_~

Hmmmm Not really addicted to any video games I can only one game for so long, and I dont have many games so I let them sit for months on end befoe I play them more. but on the other Hand I play D&D, Rifts, and Warhammer at every chance I get but that keeps its self in check becuse its hard to get the guys together for a game. In other words my gaming habits check themselves lol:uzi:

My boss at my old job played Everquest all night and then came to work all day. I don't think she ever slept. She loved it, and her husband loved it too. They had made some really good friends through the game and it seemed to make her happy, so I didn't see what the problem was.
Some of the other women at work hated her obsession though. I have no idea what it had to do with them, but they ranted on and on about her playing computer games all the time behind her back. It was really quite sad - their obsession was probably worse!

yeah i was once obsessed with everquest, for about a year now i quit, but im going a resume within the next few days. People play it because its so real, your really playing in a fantasy world and this makes it seem so fun and real, my neighbor used to play for 12+ hours some days, and if i resume at max i will only play for 1 hour a day

Do you play Warhammer RPG or Warhammer 40(k). My honey, Eshallet, plays 40(k). So does my son. I'm the big D&D fanatic. :D
