Am I the only one here who likes to wander through cemetaries? (I feel weird admitting that lol). Sometimes I'll go and just look at the headstones and try to learn about who the person was in life, etc.

The one by my house has such a peaceful atmosphere to it. Kind of like when the sun sets, or a story is finished; it's quiet and not spooky in the least...at least, not for me.

Anyhow...yeah. :boing: Tell me what you all think.

Nope you're not the only one. The one behind my house is a wonderful place to walk and I usually do during nice weather. I especially love it in the spring when my Willow trees are blooming and the there is a nice comfy spot beneath them. :bigredgri

Summer isn't bad either. :uhhuhuh:

Nope I like to walk threw them as well. There was one behind where I grew up that we used to always go and hang out in. I think that the older they are the more interesting they can be.

I do especially if it's researching my family's history. I even have pictures of my great grandparents' and great great grandparents' headstones up in Facebook and other spots. :)

I love exploring old pioneer cemetaries, especially when the lilacs are blooming. They loved to plant lilacs at the graves at the turn of the 20th century. At least around here. When I lived in GA we would always go check out the neat old headstones.

I've been to some that I really like that I consider peaceful. However, I went to one in Virginia City and not all of it was very calm. There was a section dedicated to firemen who died in their work, and I found that section a bit more uneasy along with a few others.
The cemetery itself is beautiful though, it's in the foothill mountains in Virginia City, NV. Really cool place overall.

When I was a full time student, the cemetery was my favorite place to study. Of course, you don't get much past the mid 1800's in Southern California, but still, the atmosphere was always peaceful, a helpful thing for a student! Now that I live in New England, and find some seriously old graves, the atmosphere seems a little more crowded, you know what I mean? Many more dead people. You aren't the only one, by a long shot!

Nothing odd about it, what do you think anthropologists do? lol at least you are not digging them up!

I like to walk through one on ocassion, gives me a sense of why I'm here and how lucky I am to still be walking among my fellows. Gives new perspective, tells you history of life and death and gives a small corner of peace in an otherwards crazy world.

I would love to wander around in cemeteries, but sadly I don't have any near. There are a few downtown that are really old and seem really intriguing though.

I love to wander around cemeteries and just absorb all the feelings and such that fil the atmoshpere there.Different sections and diferent graves give off different vibes. For example,The saddest section(s) for me are the childrens graves,I always get a feeling of curriosity and loss,And offten times playfulness aswell though. Its as if the children know that they lost out on the chance to explore and really live.

The happiest section(if there is sucha thing)is of the elderly, those who died after they had happily lived their lives to the fullest and were content to pass on to death.

I spend alot of time at cemeteries studying, thinking or pacing and such.

It really depends for me. Some cemeteries I love to wander through, especially the old ones in St. Augustine when we go there for vacation. But then again there are several I refuse to even drive past. For the most part, though, they are nice to be in. Especially when you can find those random headstones with the nice poetry and whatnot.

I like cemeteries up North where there are headstones. The ones here are not very interesting.

Theres a very pretty, peaceful and OLD one up by my home. Theres a well known ghostie walking around but Ive never caught a glimpse of her, however her headstone is the most beautiful Ive ever seen. I love it and its the one I always gravitate to first when Im there.

A few years back, I had a microbiology class where the teacher took us to the graveyard to show us tombstones of people who had supposedly died of weird diseases. It was cool. :D

I love walking through cemeteries and graveyards, and one nearest to me is spooky, even in day. The church goes back to the 12th Century and the road is even older.

I found out that the soil of cemeteries are quite fertile and magnificent trees grow there. They are peaceful places and they do have a very eerie beauty.

The local site allows sheep to graze in the fenced off part with graves.

I love wandering through cemeteries! There's one near me that has a beautiful lake and wild kangaroos hanging out, I often take my baby for a walk and we feed the 'roos. Cemeteries are such peaceful, interesting places, I could go for ever reading the gravestone inscriptions, poetry etc.

My late aunt used to say hello to the dead people when driving past cemeteries because "who else will?". I picked that up for her. But I don't actively enter them.

I do it all the time. (:
I went with my friends once, and the neighbors called the police on use because they thought we were knocking over the headstones.
We quickly explained to him that we would never do that. c:
But to think that some teenagers go and knock them over? D;

I love looking at the headstones and thinking, "I wonder if they ever went to a cemetery and thought the same thing that I'm thinking now." or I think, "What if, years from now, someone will look at my headstone and think about what my life could have been like?"
They always get me thinking. (:

Sounds like me. Strangely, my favorite cemetery has gotten a bit unfriendly lately -- maybe there was vandalism or something, but the last few times I've been there the caretaker's driven up to me and not-quite-said-to-go-away. I have relatives buried in the yard, though, so he can't really kick me out.

I have a few favorite graves there. There's one that's all decorated with sparkly beads, like it's a drag-diva tombstone. Another is just a cheap circle of concrete with a name, a year of death, and the man's profession: STAGE DRIVER (makes me think he died away from his hometown.) Or the stone that just says Rodriguez at Rest.

Cemetaries are ok IF I dont enter them (unless I'm visiting deceased family). Otherwise I get too overwhelmed with all the activity. But the ones around me look beautiful from the other side (no pun intended lol).

Well, yesterday I trecked over to a local cemetary...literally 7 miles away from me. I walked...it's easy to get there, you just walk straight :p Well, once you get to a certain part of my block, but you pretty much just walk straight to get to it.

It's a very big cemetary. it looks small from outside, but it's huge. It has windy pathways and hills, and if you go to the top, you can see the entire town. It's really invigorating.

The cemetary itself probably opened in the 1800s. The oldest headstone I found was from 1826. Some of them are very plain and old looking, some simply saying "mother" or "sister" on them. Others had entire families buried next to each other. Some were entombed and others stored in a mausoleum (I didn't go in there lol). One headstone was so old that I couldn't make out the writing. It was whitewashed with green moss covering it, and I guess at one point there was paint on it. I saw a few covered in leaves and grass and moved it. I didn't want to accidentaly step on any, so I remember watching my step. There were others that were treestumps that had these beautiful designs on them.

There were two headstones I stayed by for quite a while. It was a mother and her son. He was born in 1937 and died in 1938. He was just a year old, maybe younger. Next to him was his mother, who died the year after he died, in 1939. She was only 29 years old when she died. There was no father buried next to them, the only mention of him was on the child's headstone as initials. It made me wonder if the woman killed herself, if she died of a broken heart...I wondered how the baby died as well. Did the father die somewhere else, or leave them? it made me sad, and I didn't want to move on because I just felt overwhelmed and sad for them. But I finally did, and went up the hill (scaring a bunny! :hyper:) and saw a few statues of angels and one of Jesus and Mary standing on one of the headstones. Some of them even had pictures on them, and you could see what they looked like when they were alive.

I saw a few brand new ones covered in flowers and balloons too. As I got ready to leave, my aunt called me . I remember I was at a particular headstone of a WWI veteren and it rang. I was like, "Oh, pardon me sir". I'm sure if his spirit was there, he chuckled at my silliness.

I saw lots of animals there, besides the bunny. There were squirrels, hawks, crows, and...a duck. lol. She was a brown duck who flew over from the park, which is just across the street from the cemetary. There are usually deer up there too, but I didn't see any that day.

I eventually found my way out (took a while <_< ) and went home. It was overall a cool experience :)
