View Full Version : Cards falling out of deck

I have a general question I hope I can get some of your opinions on. When cards fly out of the deck when shuffling, I think most would consider them significant - even if they don't show up again in the reading. I am curious to know if any of you have a rule about the card being interpreted as "face up" or "face down"? What I mean is- should you always consider them one or another or take it in the position it falls in? Any thoughts?

Let me preface this with I haven't read cards in years so its been some time.
What I used to do was place them off to the side and in the order that they fell from the deck. Then I placed them above the spread I was doing and read them as influences that were impacting upon the reading.
I usually read those items as chance influences or undirected influences.

Often I think cards fall out of the deck when I am holding them too loosely while shuffling. I'll pick up the card(s) and look at them then just put them back in and reshuffle. I don't do reversed meanings ever, so that part doesn't matter. So, I'll take into consideration the card that fell out when I throw the spread, but unless I get a gut feeling that, that card is important then I don't treat it as special.
However, if I am trying to ask questions and I keep having bunches of cards repeatedly fall out, I take it as a sign that the cards do not want to answer that question and maybe it should be phrased differently.

I set it to the side and don't look at it until after the reading. I consider something that either falls outside the realm of the reading, something that links/sums everything up, depending on what I feel.

Sollie, that's a cool idea. Sometimes the same thing happens when I am doing an oracle card reading. Maybe I shuffle to loose and carelessly, but I think it could also be the deck's way of bringing something important to my attention. Especially if it happens to be the same card :p

Since I usually only do a single card for the day type of thing I will regularly use whichever card jumps out of the deck.
I have a method of shuffling 3 or four times before doing a reading, sometimes only one jumps, sometimes 2 or 3 (which I will take a close look at how/if they relate to each other). If by the end of the 4th shuffle none have jumped out then I try to judge if I really need the reading that day or if an actual spread is best.
For some reason I get the best out of the 'jumping' cards than if I just shuffled and pulled whatever was on top *shrugs*

This actually just happened to me last night right before I gave a reading to my friend, and right afterwards. I think it really just depends on how you shuffle. If you're sure that your shuffling in a way that wouldn't allow cards to just fly out, then I would take a look at them. It happens to me when I'm just playing with my deck, like it's answering my subconscious questions. But personally, if they are falling out of the deck and shuffling is messy, then I just put them at the bottom of the deck and reshuffle. For me it's one of those "take it with a grain of salt" occurances.
