if you don't show up for a court date, do they reschedule you for it? or are you assumed guilty???

Depends on the infraction, shnen.

Once, I got a speeding ticket. And I FORGOT (honestly I did) my first 2 court appearances. They were going to send a bench warrant out for me if I hadn't shown up the 3rd time around.

You should show up or at least call the courts. If you're seriously ill they might be able to post-pone, but I'm not really sure about that.

However, the best way to get out of a ticket, at least at my town court, is the cop doesn't show up. If the officer does a no show, the judge usually drops it.

Hereabouts you can get charged with contempt of court. I live in Scotland, however. If you can't make it, call the courts, or call your solicitor/lawyer/whatever it is they're called in the US.

i know... they will show up the first time tho... that is how they schedule it... I guess I can "forget " the first time then.. I thought they would automatically find you guilty..

When's the date? If you have some time I'll see if I can catch up with my friend who's a lawyer here in Canada. He's always giving me legal advise so I'm sure he would let me know how it goes.

DO NOT SKIP COURT! Even if there are no apparent legal ramifications, it will taint your case history, and end up as a big black mark beside your name. Get a lawyer. If you want to e-mail me or pm me, please don't hesitate.

the lady at the court house said to send anyone to talk to the JP, as long as they are there to represent me it doesn't matter.
