I prefer raw, but, I have had many people tell me that tumbled is just as effective, and that even raw stones go through a rigorous cleaning process so, essentially they have been messed with as much as the tumbled ones are removing them from their natural state from the earth.

I ask this because I have nothing but raw, but, I am interested in an opinion before buying some tumbled crystal quartz, because my shard is missing in action and I doubt I will ever find it. I've looked everywhere.

So, people who have worked with stones: do you think there's a different? Do raw ones "work better" or do you prefer tumbled?

Or do you not care either way because you see no difference?

Thank you! :)

they work equally well. but the energy patterns vary. so it depends upon preference. tumbled stones usually have the energy coming from all directions. raw stones usually from a specific area or areas. even a non-raw stone which is not tumbled will have energy coming from a specific area. a good example would be massage wands.

Thank you! I have never really worked with a lot of tumbled so, I didn't know at all.

I think I will buy some of those tumbled ones (which are significantly cheaper than the cluster I wanted).

Helped me a lot, here. :)

My usual method is to add tiny amounts of crystal powder to a workable medium, usually candle wax or clay. The shape of the original stone, therefore, is irrelevant, and I can use the same stone multiple times.

It just depends. I prefer raw for working with mainly, but I also like to carry stones and tumbled is better because raw stone has jagged edges or will flake, etc..and I don't want to ruin my babies.
