I was raised in a traditionally Jewish home. My mom--my clarvoyant, precient, telepathic mom does not beleive in witchcraft. Or, at least, she tries not to.
Wishcraft has worked for me since I was a tiny child. Pure thought could usually bring whatever I desired (not nessesarily without consiquence)
I didn't start reading tarot until my early twenties, when a bunch of card-reading friends had a party. I read from everybody's deck by simply telling the stories on the pictures in the cards. I had no idea what I was doing. It was just a joke. Well, it seems I hit every single joke right on the head!! They got together and bought me a deck. I've been reading ever since.
I learned to heal by touch when my dearest friend developed a migraine. I was so desparate to help her. I placed a damp cloth upon her forehead at her bidding. Then I pulled the headache out of her head with my hands. Don't know how I managed that one. I've been able to do it ever since. I do it often with my fellow nurses and occasionally with my patients as well.
I've cast many forms of spells from many different people's ways--Wiccan, Druid, American Indian Magic of many different tribes, ect. They all work. Sometimes I write my own spells. I don't keep a book of shadows. I usually forget a spell after I've used it. I don't think I would think of using the same spell twice. I just invent what I need as I need it. It works!
So, people often ask me what I am. Witch, Shaman, Wiccan, Druid
I don't even know the names of most of this stuff.
So, a little guidance please, from people who know. Name me.

Are you seeking a pagan name, or are you looking to be slotted.....if so, why? I don't think that someone as diverse as yourself can be easily slotted, nor should you be, and I believe that naming is more of a personal matter< After all, what good is your name if you don't care for it.

You're simplyPagan. If that's what your asking? Most only keep a book of shadows to write not only the spells or chants but how it felt and the outcome of it. Hardly anyone uses the same spell twice. Reason is that each situation is different even if it looks the same. It's not the same day, time or person etc. wildwoodswoman is a good name, so I don't think that's what your asking about. bb

so is a book of shadows merely a blank book where one writes they're thoughts, or is it reserved solely for spells and enchantments? Is there something special about this book?

There are threads on Book of Shadows, Thorferrer - you can find them by clicking search up there near the top of the page. If you need help looking for them let me know.
In short, a book of shadows can be many things. Mostly it's used to record spells, rituals, correspondences, dreams, thoughts, and so on. Really, you can write *anything* in it that you want, because it's solely *your* book. At the same time, a lot of Pagans don't keep one either, while some have different ones - for instance I have a couple for printouts off the internet, one for dreams and tarot readings, one for spells and correspondences, and so on.

Lots of great info going on in this thread! I think to some degree everyone needs to "fit in". Even me..............sometimes. But I have never been able to find a place where I truly fit. I think I feel most comfortable with witches...........at least, this week.
So what do you all do with your...........powers? Just how much can one actually accomplish? So far, I only accomplish what people ask me for............mostly healing.

MM Wildwoodswoman...I lov eyour name and it seems ot suit you for what it is you do.
Sometimes, it isn't just a name we search out when we are capableof things like Wild is, its just justification and an explanation we need! I grew up not fitting in with anyone usually, except people outside of my age group that are olde rthan me by 10 - 20 years! I used to ask for all kinds of things as a child and whether it was good or bad, I paid for it in alot of ways. Even at some point in time, I thought there was a curse put on me at some point..wasn't sure! lol
I think Wild, that if it works for you when you need it then that is how it should be, if you want to write your experiences down, go for it! It may be something to pass on to your children if they inherite (still on first cup o joe, excuse the misspells) this gift, then they may want some justification for where it comes from...my probelm is I have gifts, I am just unsure of how to use them...I have a knack for tarot cards, but I do those occasionally, I know when spirits are around, I feel them, I am very in tune with myself and family when things are wrong, I always know when death is aroound the corner, and there are things I used to be able to do as a kid, and I can occassionally but my mind set has to be right, when I was getting a divorce, I was really emotional and taking it very hard, I would get upset and radio's would turn up without anyone touching it, and tv's popped on, light would flicker..weird things, but, I think you will fit in here, if I do to a point, I am sure you will not have a problem!! I hjope to chat with you more, feel free to pm me anytime! Good luck, I hope the answers come to you that you are seeking!

Please be careful of what you ask.Take your time and most of all relax, things are not all that bad honestly.I know and feel what you are going through and undestand fully the confussion you feel.
You never found that gift you were given it.By trying to classify tourself you may loose your true identity and possibly the gift as well.Spirit has strange ways of working.
If you must name or classify yourself why not "HEALER"and explore the other sides of what that gift has to offer.
Again please be very careful of your choises.
Feel free to email me anytime A friend

Hello and welcome!
Why not just consider yourself a Pagan? This will give you room to discover things about yourself that you never noticed before. If you limit yourself, you limit what you can do. I, personally, am a Buddhist Pagan. I found christianity, wicca, and the like too limiting for my talents and interests. I, too, can heal. But your choice is up to you, really. Best of luck finding your Path!

Wildwoodswoman, I think I missed something. What is it that you do?
My powers....well right now I am at the really neophytic stage; I am starting to realize that there may infact be some truth to the saying "To see is to believe" (I think I got it right) without believing, I don't think that you can see as much of the large picture as you may believe that you are actually seeing. <<< If that makes any sense.
So, I have come to realize that the opinions, ways, and teachings of this wonderful group of people that I have stumbled upon (namely everyone at mystick wicks), is going to shape my rapidly growing future as a pagan. I If this humbles you, you will realize how much it humbles myself. Thanks for the future potential that everyone is showing me may infact be possible.

IMHO, theoretically you can accomplish anything using magical and mundane means, providing the circumstances are right. Once you feel comfortable with techniques such as circle casting, grounding and centering, meditation, etc. you'll find the results of a spell often depend not only on your own will and focus, but on external factors - other people, future things you might not know about, and so on. You'll also find there are things you can do, but often shouldn't - even inasmuch as weather magic (controlling the weather) or manipulative spells (not that you would do those).
I find over time we sharpen our skills at working magic by research and practice, though the ability is always available. I don't think people become "more powerful" with experience or age, but that with those they become more sharpened to the task.

And so I continue to learn.
.......I think I missed something. What is it that you do?
Well, I read tarot. Been doing that for longer than your whole current existance, Thor. But I don't know how. I just do it.
I call to me what I need. Don't know how I do that either.
I "feel" the people around me. Sometimes I can "see" everything--family, home, work. Sometimes not.
I can pull pain out of the body. I use my hands. Another thing I don't know how.
Occasionally, I cast a spell for this or that. Don't know how I do that either, but they work.
I call down rain. Only rarely when the garden is desparate. Here is a good example of my spellwork: I stand on the porch facing my thirsty garden, spread my arms wide and say "Some rain please. The babies are thirsty." I like that spell and it works quite well. I've gotten a group of friends to make chocolate candles and call down REAL rain. That was fun.
But if I don't know how to do all this stuff, imagine what someone could do if they did know what they were doing. Blows my little mind away!!

I have been studying shamanism for 40 years now and don't call myself a shaman.I have never found a religious path that I can feel comfortable with and probably never will.I know your feelings like I said in my other post. Please take your time.

I think the thing under my avitar best explains it. I walk my own path. I am being very proud of myself today. I resisted an almost overwhelming urge to turn a co-worker into a toad. This person has been "bad-mouthing" me to my boss. Totally not cool!! My girlfriend has been encouraging me to do a binding spell. I concidered the idea but decided I have a mean streak and would be likely to bind her too tightly. Mother will take care of it in the appropriate way. I don't even need to ask!!! Ain't that cool!?!:D

lol WIld...the 3 fold law always takes care of those who are not kind to others lol...trust me, I have been the one on the dark side of things, seeking revenge on others, and I paid for it dearly...hence why I thought I was cursed for awhile, then once I learned not to do that and took control of abad situation, things got alot better. My ex hubby was a definate learning tool in that, I did not have to curse him, he was already on a cursed path, I just hope he comes out of it alive, but alas, that is ultimately up him and something he never really wanted to get out of (his dark side) ... so sad sometimes what people do to themselves without any help...I hope the forceof nagativity stays far away from you WIldWoodwoman! You seem very nice to me...

I have to agree with BlueOwl. Wildwoodswoman sounds perfect. My path is similar, a mix of my Catholic background, Wicca, Native American, Asatru.......I call myself a Witch or Wise Woman.

It's hard to stop one's self from turning these dumb humans into toads, but then one remembers that Mother does not care for us to insult the toads!:D
I was given these gifts to heal with. That's why I use my computer to vent with. It sure felt good to get the thought out though!!
Not to worry, Owl, I harm no one!;)
(at least not knowingly):p

I've always found that the deities take care of their own, so although I might want to send some negative energy, I don't need to. The short version of the rule of three is "What goes around comes around". I've never seen it fail.

Give up, WWW--
You're a witch.
I had to give up too. People have been pointing & screaming witch at me since I was little-- finally, I had to agree . I think I will be good at it.
