Here's what I found:

http://www.hebrewletters.net/acharon.html
http://www.ou.org/about/judaism/a.htm

It appears not to be hebrew in origin.
I hope this helps.

Not a demon, but ... Acheron was one of the five rivers surrounding Hades (and apparently also a real river in Greece). It was not uncommon for names connected with pagan deities and places associated with sex and/or death to become demonized in Christianity and Judaism (and misspelled to boot). Perhaps that's what happened here? I did a search for "demon Acharon" and found a couple of unsupported references to a demon named Acharon. I also found another reference to the word Acharon being used as a magic word to frighten away demons who were possessing people!

You're right, Demeter. Acheron is definitely Greek. In Greek, Acheron means "sadness." As Demeter stated, it is a river that leads to the Underworld. If you ever read the Odyssey , it is the river which Odysseus gives sacrificial blood, so he can summon the spirits of the Underworld.

In mythology, Acheron was the son of Gaia. Supposedly, he had to lead the way to the Underworld as a punishment for giving the Titans water- total no no since the Giants were fighting against the Olympians. That's why Zeus turned him into the "sad" river.

Keep in mind that the word "demon/daimon" just meant "spirit" to the Greeks.
