My neighbor ( who is an adult) has been trapping squirrels in his dirty little steel traps, with bait and all that crap. I asked him why and he says that he "Doesn't like them around here." Well what the hell does he want!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are squirrels, not psychopaths, now come on. He lets them go at the beach, but he lets them sit in that cage all day. I go over there and i hear them squealing to get out.
Now the reason why i posted this is because i want to set them free, now there is a factor i want to bring to your attention. Will bringing them to the beach do anything? Lets think positive and negitive... Well they'll get away, but they will come right on back, you can't trap every squirrel and you can't do this forever. Bringing them to the beach is also separating them from their families. Pretty much, this is doing NO good, and i can't tell him this because hes a hard headed man, he doesn't really care if i brought this up
Now the final pole
Do you think i should let them free or not?
Thanks guys, this is really an infuriating topic for me, i respect animals and i cherish them, i reallly hate to see this in front of my house pretty much

If you mess with his traps, on his property, he may take legal action against you. That is definately more trouble than it's worth.

Yep, what Radocs said. AND if you take to setting them free he may take to killing them.:(

Exactly what I was thinking.... be grateful he's not poisoning them! He's actually doing a rather humane thing by trying to relocate them, whether it works or not.

I agree with what everyone else said. Tho when I was reading it, I was all for letting the poor little things go, but then I thought about it, relocation to a beach probably isn't the best place for them, wooded areas are best, but they arn't dead, and they arn't in pain which would be the case if he started using different types of traps or poison. I know it is infuriating to see this, but what else can you do. Animal protection probably wont do anything to him because he's not really harming them. So all I can tell you is try to talk to him some more, and if that doesn't work, try to block it out.

While I completely understand your frustration, Tranquility, what everyone else has said is true. He could do much worse (although I'd REALLY like to shove him in a cage and take him to Antarctica to "relocate" him).

Call some animal rights groups he may be breaking laws by leaving them in the cages or by traping them at all. Diferent states have different laws and you might be surprised. For example in the US it is illegal to catch a hurt bird to help it unless it is a starling or one or two other types. Technically even the feathers or egg shells or empty nests we often pick up are illegal to own I was not able to get a good reason from the fish and wildlife people but that is where I got that information when my kids brought home a sparrow with a broken legg. Start with fish and wildlife check what the regulations are where you live. It is safer for you legally as well as personally since they don't have to have your name and he doesn't need to know where the complaints are coming from.

Get a really big Steel trap....use an empty six pack for bait.......let him be trapped for a whole day.......take him to the beach........preferably on a different coast.......turn him loose.........And you might want to wear a disguise........
Don't you wish you really could do that?:D

I really do twig.. i really do.. well as you all said, there isn't much i can do. I don't think he would take legal action since im about 30 years younger than him, and he'd take me as a joke

you can't trespass, but you can call the animal rights group in your area and ask what can be done about it.

When I was a kid I had a neighbor that used to trap crows in his backyard. If he caught one, he'd grab his BB gun and shoot the crow while it was in the cage.
His father encouraged him to do stuff like this all the time. Needless to say they were a family of drips.
So I'll give credit to this guy for at least trying to be somewhat humane. Still a pretty arrogant thing to do though...
