I need some really good ways to calm myself down before I meditate. The minute I sit down, my body starts itching to move! I've tried low light, soft music, no music, grounding. NOTHING WORKS! Anyone got any good ideas? (i'm a long-time beginner. Can't you tell?) :)

MM,

Maybe you can try guided meditation...either buy a tape or make a recording yourself. I highly recomend self guided. Youd be suprised with a little practice what you can acheive. I had the same problem myself until I made some recordings of some wonderful meditations from the book Trancing the Witch's Wheel by Yasmine Galenorn. Give it some time. Try having a glass of wine before you begin. It will happen for you!

Blessed Be,

I'm ADHD and the only way I can meditate is if I get the endorfens going with music so I can focus or a hot bath with candlelight. Good luck there's a lot of great ideas on the boards.

What helps me is to practice with the guided med. tapes. That way I can relax and practice listening and getting into a deeper level. Then when I want to meditate on my own, my body and mind are already pretty used to getting to that point. When I find I am struggling to stay calm and mentally quiet, I go back to the tapes again.

Hope this helps.
