well first off define your need. Set this firmly in mind. Research correspondences. From there decide which type magic you wish to use, a simple candle spell? An herbal charm? things will flow to you , ideas and such and if the mood strikes strong, go with it. Now I personally always cast a circle, I have sent magic forth wild without it, but it is a personal choice. Once you decide on the "type" spell then word it carefully please. make sure the back door is closed. :)

I agree with what Greta said, and I also recommend building a reference library that you can refer to. The most powerful spells are the ones you write yourself and that come from your heart. This thread might also be helpful:

here is something that may be of use to you. i didnt write this, but i dont remember who did! this is just an outline to help yourself figure out the things you need so you can later craft the actual stuff you will say, etc.
1. define the goal of your ritual
2. decide when and where you will work your magick, keeping in mind lunar phases and days of the week.
3. find or a create an appropriate chant.
4. if you will be invoking a god/goddess, decideo n which one and write out any special prayers that you will use to call upon them.
5. plan how you will visualize your goal.
6. decide on any correspondences/catalysts (herbs, colours, elements, etc.) that you want.
these are just a few ideas that may help you get your thoughts together, this outline has proven very helpful for me many times. you may also want to look at other spells you find in books or online so you can see how they are crafted.
