I got this tarot deck for Christmas from my mom.... it's really beautiful but the cards have different names so I'm finding it difficult to use.... (odd that the names would make any difference, for something based on intuition, isn't it?).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has used it and how you found working with the differnent cards.
Here's a review of the deck: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/oshozen/review.html

I have had this deck for years now and I :heartthro it!! The art work is incredible. I am solitary taoist, so this deck is very comfortable for me to use. The first thing you might want to try is not looking at the names, just look at the images. It is not a deck that is particularly suited to reading for others, it is more geared towards meditation and understanding things within your own life. I have found it useful reading for others when it involves questions from the seeker of significant decisions they are looking at in their lives. The spreads provided are very good at providing a contrast between the pro's and cons of a situation. They have also been very helpful in doing readings for relationships. I don't know if you got the set for christmas or just the deck. The book that comes with it is very helpful. I find it amazing that one person designed all those cards in so many different styles. Incredible insight and talent. If you have not read anything about Zen, Buddhism or Tao, you might find aquainting yourself with the tenets of these belief systems helpful in your understanding and interpreting of the cards....

"OOOOoooohhhhh, OSHO!"

yeah, i'm "down w/their web site," receive their Monthly Mailer" (this one has "videos," to boot!), love absolutely everything about it (wanna start a Study Group, here?), yet . . .

i do not--alas!--own the deck, yet . . . (no money, might be why . . . no TIME IS a diffinate!)

so . . . "why" would I "want the osho zen deck" so very much?

1) i'm a "zen-baby," from 1982-present; 2) i've some "amazing" profetic readings regarding myself and my person; 3) i "like the colors . . ."

GO Osho!!!

:o "OOOOOOOoooooooohhhh, YOKO! I'm never ever ever ever ever gonna let cha go!" :o

I have the deck and book and I absolutely love it. I have never really learnt to to read Tarot but have had many readings myself and done a few too on a "rider waite" deck. I found the Osho deck to a beginner eminently easy to read and found the answers simply leaping out of the cards. The words on each card really tell a story to me, and I find I've got the gist of the answer within a few seconds, then I study the pictures (which are beautiful) and if i need to I'll also read the description.

Is this truly reading them propperly though? i understand they're based on standard tarot which i don't know.. should i study the tarot deck first and then relate that to the osho deck.

I'd also like to further my knowledge of Zen as he describes it, should I read Osho's work or is there a better tome of knowledge for the study of zen?

thanks again all for your help, I'm just lovin this learning... :fpraiseyo :steppy:

The Osho Zen Tarot was my first deck ever. I choose it because the art was beautiful. I didn't find them difficult to use because I was not familliar with the traditional names for cards. Everytime I used them I
got something from it. My Sister loves them and won't even look at any other deck so I gave them to Her.

i don't consider this deck a 'tarot' deck at all. but it certainly seems to have an strong aura of it's own.

(and Zander, shouldn't that be "JWL"?)

The artwork is amazing, and I agree with Greenman that it has it's own unique energy. I would suggest that you have to forget trying to read with it like a tarot deck and discover it for itself.

This is my first and only deck, so far. I was waiting to get one until I found one that popped out at me and when my HPS showed this one I was hooked. It screamed at me to get it so I did from BN.com and was so surprised to find out how inexpensive it was with the book! It was one of those serendipitous things that occur in your life, I just love that!

I rarely read traditional tarot so I didn't have a problem with them. The pictures on them really do tell the a story and that's how I read them. I think they are Tarot crds in that you can use the sames spreads and they are based on them but they do have a slightly different energy to them that is more geared to self healing. I also cannot read with them often because they will say the same thing over and over until the issue gets resolved or another issue arises. Thats for a three card spread - past, present, future.

My HPS is a college writing teacher and for class she tells her students, at some point, to chose a card, from this deck, and write a story about it. When some of them ask "is this a Tarot card" she smiles and says "yes and if you would like to discuss it after class we can"

The pictures on this deck are awsome. If you would like to try it there is a random card generator on thier web site that shows the cards in the deck and thier meaning. I'm sorry i don't have the address but it will come up in a search engine.

I recently got this deck too... The art work is so amazing!
And like someone else said, i think it would be better not to take too much notice of the names of the cards, i did not learn tarot that way... So, i am not planning on taking too much notice of the names of the cards.
I am still yet to try the deck, i am waiting until the 25th for the new moon, so i can give them a good cleansing :)

Interesting I went to an women's circle get together recently where they discussed divination and someone brought this deck and I think everyone fell in love with it! It's certainly on my "To buy" list.

I *love* my Osho Zen.

The creator of that deck also has an oracle deck out, which is just amazingly beautiful.

I picked up this deck last night, having fallen in love with it at first sight. I haven't had a chance to look through each card, but having gone through many I find the artwork wonderful - just lovely, spiritual, and magical. I get a really amazing energy off it, which I've only felt off one other deck (the quest tarot).

It's funny too, when I was looking at it I thought "Theres/Greenman would probably not consider this a tarot deck" and I see he's already posted to this thread saying so :)

I don't care for it. Some of the cards are quite lovely, but outside of that I dislike it through and through. Something about the deck just makes me roll my eyes uncontrollably.

My mum bought it for me as a Solstice present, but as usual I caught onto it way before the time came for her to wrap it and asked her to return it.

I love this deck, but it is different to read. I find it easier for me to read. I like the RWS, but it is not as intuitive for me as the Osho Zen. I can see where someone that is used to the conventional tarot deck would have trouble with it though. Throw away that book, and use your intuition. That book is full of great philosophy, but I didn't care for the interpretations. The cards speak louder than the words in the book.

I find it's just excellent for doing personal readings and meditation, exploring my own thoughts and processes, and what I can focus on personally. It really picks up on energies and highlights my subconscious meanderings to bring them into focus, and thus has been an excellent tool for some spiritual alchemy.

I have the Osho Zen tarot deck. I have had it for about 5 years... and I must admit, I have never found any connection with it- for several reasons.
Firstly, I find that all the very specific titles to the individual cards, makes it too rigid and narrow when interpreted, as it is difficult to take a broad/in depth message from such a specific title ( I realize this can be a good thing at times, but I mostly find it limiting).
Also, I find it disturbs my "calm" that there are so many different types of images, the style of the images/illustrations on each card, are so different in style that it breaks the balance for me. Some of the cards are really beautiful and some are extremely ugly (to me), in not just image, but also style of painting.

I realize I should probably give the cards a second chance.... such as using them for meditation- think they would be great for that.
But as for readings, tarot-style, they do not work for me.

The thing I like about these cards is that they really force you to rely on intuition...Very buddhist oriented and not for those who like easy reads.
