There are a few forums I could post this in...History, Pagan Entertainment...but I wanted to reach everyone with this.
I just finished watching an A&E show called Mission Possible: Shuttle Astronauts about an Atlantis crew from 3 years ago who are preparing to go up to the International Space Station.
They dedicated the show to the Columbia crew. :(
Why am I sharing this with you guys here? I'll tell ya'.
They go into details about what it takes to train for such a mission. The disaster drills they do before liftoff, how the crew becomes a family...it was amazing to watch.
A&E shows have a history of being repeated often and I'm sure that they will do so this week and weekend with this one.
Please take the time to see it. And you know what? Have your kids see it as well.
I think the news has been right in saying that we've become so used to shuttle missions that it wasn't the "thrill" it used to be to watch them. It took another tragedy to realize this.
We took for granted these folks who risk their lives to explore new worlds and I know when I was a kid--space was still a mystery to me. I knew lots of kids who watched every minute of the launches hoping that one day it would be them.
Now, we rarely show the launches and kids don't get that same thrill.
Maybe if they watch this program, a little spark might ignite in their souls to something they'd never thought of before.
Thanks for letting me share and I hope that you get out of it what I did--an even deeper respect for those who, as Rick's been putting it..."boldly go."
