View Full Version : Family gathering possibility

I was just catching up on the community activity...may take a long while yet!!! The thought occured to me that I would love to meet all of you in person. I was just curious on everyones thoughts about planning a reunion if you will and seeing if we could pull it off. We could do a poll of where everyone is located and see where the best spot would be to attempt something like this. Anyone interested??? Ideas??? I think it is time the family gets together in person. If we did it around here...Oklahoma..Tulsa area, Mol and I would be more than happy to make all the arrangements. Let me know what you think.

Superb idea!!! Although, I know that we have people all over the world in here, so maybe some people from Austrailia could get together, and the people from England could get together, etc. and then we can send in the pictures and tell everyone how it went! What do you think?

Kaylara

Semele

Ithink that is an excellent idea. That way noone is out a lot of cash to get together. I think I shall post a poll to find out exactly where everyone is.....as soon as I figure it out.

Kaylara, I replied to your pm but it said your box was full....shame on you.
Absolutely lets stick it at the top and I guess have everyone reply with where they are located so we can plan this thing and get it rolling.

I'm exactly in Lexington, Kentucky, and would love to come to something like this. However, $$ would be a major issue. I'd likely not make it.

Kaylara
May 25th, 2001, 04:35 PM
Ah Ha! The box is no longer full... I am in Ocean Twp. New Jersey... Which is by Long Branch and Eatontown for those of you who know the area... I would love to come, but I am wondering how I'm gonna get out to Oklahoma (OK! LOL)

Well, lets just see which region is home to the most members and try to plan it there. Then we will have to try to come up with a way to get us all there...at the same time!! This could prove to be rather difficult. Perhaps we should start smaller and have the members in the same area meet and get to know each other and then we could have a massive carpool to the final destination. Perhaps even a place where we could all camp out....no motel expenses. Lets just play with this a little and see what we come up with.

I'm in Greenville, Michigan.

I agree with others, the $$ will be the hardest thing to pull off.....especially for the GAS!!! ;)

My SO is temporarily unemployeed, and my income is it....and it's doesn't seem like much. :(

Other than that, I would LOVE to meet everyone! :sunny:

I dont think everyone could stay at our house though...

I like the idea though. Maybe I could get a registration system built just for this. Then we can see the regions mapped out , etc...

I dont know...I will go with the flow.

Semele
May 25th, 2001, 05:28 PM
No Mol, I agree we couldn't put everyone up here. We had a very full house last weekend for my sister's wedding. But perhaps we could reserve a nice camping spot....thats much more pagan-like anyway isn't it??? 8O

I like the idea of everyone getting together in their local area and swapping photos. Maybe even posting a reunion photo album on the net or the site even.

OOOOOOOHHHHHH! Sounds like fun! Where I live is to the left but that's a generalization. I actually live about 30min south of OK on I-35, in Lewisville TX. Camping sounds like fun! I've heard OK has alot of very pretty spots to camp. Other places may not be as easy for me to get to but I know there's not alot people posting down this way.

Hey, don't forget the homemade strawberry jam and who was it who was making the banana bread???!!! :D

I'm in Dansville MI which is about 20 miles SE of Lansing. My husband, although he's not pagan, said he would love to have everyone at our place!!! We have 13 acres so everyone could bring a tent and camp on our property.

Just thought I'd toss in my $1.50 CAN (2 cents US) on the idea of a get together:

I can see is going about this a few different ways:
Gather at mol and Semele's place (*kidding*!)
Set up a big gathering for everyone in a central location, preferably planned for the not-so-near future (1 year at least?) so everyone can plan and budget accordingly
Plan to meet each other at various existing Pagan festivals to where some of us might already be travelling
Set up regional gatherings (as someone suggested)
Any other suggestions? Anyone else here a fest-goer?

(are you a goer? wink wink nudge nudge say no more)

With all the posts I saw from the midwest...OK, MI, KY, IN; etc...we could surely come up with something that can accomodate all. I really like the regional aspect with the possibility of a major gathering every 2 to 3 years...just a thought.

Busy weekend is winding up for me so I will be back in swing tomorrow. Just a quick note to say I am thrilled so many are interested. A big gathering in a year or so sounds great...time to plan. However I would love for those of us who live near each other to get together asap.

It sounds like there are several members within a days drive from each other. Lets see who's closest to us and start getting together. Even a meeting for dinner would be neat.

I will start in our neck of the woods by asking who is near enough to OK to get together with Mol and I. Any takers?

Just wanted to say AWESOME IDEA!!!!

Unfortunately I live in New York...Oklahoma...Where's that(Kidding!!!)??? But I'm up for either a central location with a whole lot of advanced notice. (Being a single mother with no child support I'm pretty poor!) Or maybe having festivals all over and posting photos of each.

I'd love to meet everyone here.

Some time tonight or tomorrow Mol is going to set up an IRC chat room for the community so we can get together and start making some plans. I think everyone is familiar with Irc. You will have to download it if you don't already have it and then we can have our own little place to chat complete with moderators... and if I know Mol it will have some bots around to help moderate as well. We may set up some kind of invite service as well so we don't get any oddballs in there...don't worry Eagle you are invited too!!!

This is in no way designed to take the place of the community. Just a means for us to all chat in real time about upcoming events and what not. We may eventually start having some scheduled chats as well....only time will tell.

Sometimes it is easier to reply in real time...other times its better to ponder a response for better judgment.

well... i think it would be hard for a lot of people to go to only one place. I think maybe we should cut up everything into zones... and then figure out how many people are in each zone.. and make a "zone coordinator" or more than one even.. to contact all the people in their 'zone' and try and figure out who can "host" their "meeting" and try to accomidate the gathering the best, and then figure out how much travel/food/accomidation costs would be.

during each gathering, people could be assigned things... like people could chronicle the whole event, a few people could be assigned to take pictures/video (whoever is most qualified), and of course anyone else who would want to make efforts to record the event would be great as well.

then all the stuff gathered (as was mentioned before) could be put up on a website to commemorate the global party.

Check out the thread that's title is East Coast... If me and Traz and Dellit and Sharon go, do you wanna carpool with us? Let me know, and let me know if any other family members wanna go!

Mol and I can handle this little spot. Now all we need are some other folks from different areas to raise their hand and volunteer. We may need to exchange phone numbers..... for those of us not already connected!!

Hope you don't mind hun. lol I think it should be a lot of fun, I have a friend that would love to come too. Also, I would need a couple months to prepare. Hey, you know what I was thinking? If we do this sometime around Midsummer, we can all hold rituals together. Okay, we'd have to make it really inclusive and/or generic because we have a lot of different traditions here, but it could be a bonding experience. Don't you think? Anyhow, it could be any time really, but that seems most fun...
Let me know what you think.

okay, i may have been out of the loop for a bit, but i think i've caught up quite considerably. i just want to make a few points about this... oh my.. i sound... like my mother! or something? lol anyway...

i would REALLY love to get a gathering together. or many gatherings in different places at the same time, like someone suggested. the only problem(s) is/are that:

1. i'm only 17 and currently have no mode of transportation
2. see #1. i'm not sure how keen my parents would be on the idea of me hanging out with people i've never met. especially since i think you guys are all a BIT older than me. 'cept Kaylara. she's closer to my age, i think.
3. umm.. i'm SURE there was a #3 problem... *shrug* i lost it. dayum. that's not.. good. well, if i think of it, i'll letcha guys know.

anyway, i'd really like to see you guys. i have a thing for putting names and faces together. but, doesn't everybody? maybe.. not?

okay. i'm done now. and i think this might be my longest post yet. *shrug*

For our younger members:

I too would like to meet you guys!!! Just not sure how to arrange something like that though. We love having you here to share your viewpoints. You guys are a very important part of the community. The only way around this is with your parents permission. We would love to have them participate as well. Hopefully your parents know of your involvement here in the community. Talk to them and see what their views are on the topic. Maybe this is something they could do with you. I have to say though, as a parent, I probably wouldn't want my child going to something like this without me. You just, sadly enough, can't trust everyone.

Hopefully we can all meet soon. If we have to wait until you guys are old enough...so be it. We will always be here and the way this community is growing I have a feeling we will plan as many get togethers as possible in the future!

It's true, Greyhound is a life saver. Why my friend came from Connecticut to Ohio...a good 450 miles, and it was only $60. :D :D :D
Now, I don't know about you guys but that'd save a lot on gas, air fair, the whole lot. Call them up, they have great rates!
As for the underage thing...well....I know how hard it is to be young. lol We will hopefully have many get togethers to come. We are so close, like a family, we can do anything!

Oh, BTW, I like the idea of having many small regional get togethers, and then every few years having a VERY LARGE whole group get together.
Something to consider anyway...heh

Don't worry! I'm sure this will be only the first of many get togethers! So you have lots of time. :)

For those in southwestern Ontario and area, there's another Pagan festival annually here. go to welcome.to/whisperfest to check it out. I'm part of the staff on it and it's great fun! :) We even have presenters of classes coming from the US etc including Charles Arnold! Yay!

But I live in Ohio so keep me updated on the MI reunion, I would just love to meet other Wiccan/Pagans. So would my boyfriend. Who has little ones they would bring? I have a two year old who would like to meet some friends :)
