I'm so excited! I'm going on a herbal walk this Sunday! It's going to be at Campbell Valley Park in Langley. It's an all day trip & I'm really looking forward to it. I've grown my own herbs & have taught myself to recognize herbs in the wild but it 's different to have someone show you & take you out in the wild. I don't know how I'm going to make it through Sat. :p

I'm back from the herb walk & it was fantastic!!! :sunny: The weather was perfect...not too hot & sunny, slightly overcast. We went almost non-stop for the 6 hours. We grazed through the park...sampling safe edible plants. It wasn't just identifying the plants in the wild but she gave us lots of info on folklore & herbal uses on plants that I would have never thought to use. :D :D

The one that surprised me was skunk cabbage. I was surprised by how many uses for that stinky plant! :p

It wasn't just the nice weather & the herbs. I really felt the pressence of the Mother in all the growing things. The energy coming from everything was almost overwhelming.

Pass on the uses for skunk cabbage we have slews of it here.

Skunk cabbage roots will make a great ointment for skin sores & ulcers but the roots have to be boiled for a long time & it was recommended you do it when no-one is home 'cause it really stinks! Also, the roots are good for coughing & other bronchial problems...again, it has to be boiled a long time. Poultice of the leaves can be used for skin sores. With the amount of boiling & the smell of it all, I'm sure there's much easier alternatives. I have to admit, this was one plant we did not taste.

I haven't been there for a few years but after your post, I think I am going to plan a picnic for next weekend!

Thanks for sharing and reminding me of another truly wonderful place to be! :):):):)

I was thinking of bringing the family back for a picnic sometime too. It really is a great park. There were a couple of chickidees that kept following us. They would perch on a low branch over our heads & follow along when we moved. Enjoy your picnic this weekend!

That sounds really beautiful. :) Wish there was something like that where I am. How'd you find out about such a great thing? :) Maybe I can find it down here.

I phoned a local herb store & asked them if they knew of anything like that. They told me that one of their staff herbalists does such a walk. I also phoned the local college here & they had recommended the same walk. :)
