Hey, Mith, why will you be boycotting awards?

Why I might boycott? *yawn* The nominees look so much like those from the Golden Globe awards. Deja vu?

The Oscars always take their cues from the Globes.

Although next year, the Oscars will start being given out in February instead of March. Less time for the "politics" of Hollywood to go on.

I'll be watching. Always do. :)

"Spirtited Away" really should have gotten more then one nomination. It was really really good. But it has to win in animated, because nothing else was *near* as good. But then again the same directors last big film should have gotten something too.

Having seen Chicago, I can't understand why it's getting so many nominations.

I guess they did do a good job of making a musical into a movie, and while I didn't think it was terrible I don't think it was as great as it's being made out to be either.

The story was so-so, the music...weeell, I'll say it was better than most musical music I've heard but still nothing special. The acting was fine - though seeing Richard Gere dance and sing is one of my lower movie experiences...

I guess I feel the same way about My Big Fat Greek Wedding - not terrible, but not deserving of the hype. I was surprised it didn't get more nominations, though.

I'm not really into the awards shows, but my girlfriend's sister has an AA party every year so I end up seeing them. I'll be rooting for LOTR in most cases...though I know it doesn't stand a chance for Best Picture. I'd like to see Far From Heaven win Original Screenplay, Gangs of New York win for Directing, Julianne Moore win for Leading Actress and Bowling for Columbine win Documentary (a doc. I've actually *seen* ). Other than that...ehh.

I saw Chicago this past Sunday. I thought it was Wonderful!!!!

The only other time I felt this much happiness watching something in a theater has been when I saw FOTR. I wanted to jump up & applaud after nearly every number. Especially Queen Latifah's big number. She was just AWESOME. :D

But I'm confused as well Mith? How come the boycott??? Cause TTT didn't get a lot? I didn't think they would. Not this year. Next year, definitely, cause ROTK is gonna kick some serious tush.

I'm going to try & see "Gangs of NY" soon. Everyone that I know that has seen it, LOVED it....and I KNOW it's a movie Eshallet will like. And "About Schmidt". I want to see that one as well...though the people here, IRL, have said either they loathed it or they loved it. I wanna find out for myself.

I'll watch, as I always do, but only 1/2 pay attention while I'm on the computer as usual. ;)

Ldy you are killing me!

What do the initials stand for? TTT? ROTK? I'm so confused. :blushake:

I can't wait to see Chicago. I've loved the music for years and have finally heard the full Zeta-Jones version of "All that Jazz" and was just astounded by her voice.

It's nice to see these folks who started out in theater (Gere, Jones...) go back to their roots a bit.

I'm psyched for the awards like I am every year. The next biggies for me are the Tony's, but that's for another thread. :T

Lol! I'm confused as well. What do the initials TTT stand for? Hey, Mith are you boycotting the awards because Richard Gere wasn't nominated?

Ok, I have a confession to make. Yep, I haven't seen Chicago yet. What's really sad is that I have been wanting to see it for over a month and haven't gotten around to it! :( I have a long weekend coming up, so maybe I can squeeze some time in to see it.

I forget there's non-Tolkien fans around here. :T

TTT=The Two Towers
ROTK=Return of the King (Part III to those that need definitions) ;)
