Hello I'm new
The reason I'm posting is this. Our oldest daughter has night terrors. She's had them since shortly after her second birthday (she's now four) and we've tried everything we can think of both mundainly as well as "mystickly" to try and either alieviate them or get rid of them. Thus far we've come up empty, and it's at a point now where my husband and I are lucky to get 1 night of sleep out of the week.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as we are both at a loss for anything that works.

Well I don't know how helpful this site will be for you but I found it two days ago while surfing the net.

I have no experience inthis eiter. We had nightmares at my house, not night terrors.
Here are two more links for you to read through:

First I would talk to your child's pediatrician. They do have some good ideas about these things.
I use for my daughters' room to help with the problem is I fume/smoke cedar in there once a month and weekly I freshen the room with lavender oil. (essential oil not a fragrance oil is key). If you have to chose 1 I highly recommend the lavender oil. It calms and soothes most people.
Good luck!
I hope you and your husband get some well deserved rest. :)

I agree with the lavender oil- I use a few drops of that in a spray bottle mixed with water. My kids squirt a bit of that under their pillows to help keep the nigthmares awa.

:( I have no advice. My son eventually outgrew them, and they were the most heartbreaking thing we've ever gone through.

Thank you all very much for the advice, a couple of the websites had an abundance of new information we are putting into motion as we speak.
Lavander...we go through a vile of essential oil every month and although it does help to calm her when she first goes to bed, usually the effect dissipates after a couple of hours.
Thank you again though
I'll try and let you know of any progress :)

I am glad that we were able to help.
I recently bought a fan diffuser for my kids room. It plugs in and is completely safe to run all night. I put a few drops on lavender EO on the pad and turn it on. Very easy and it lasts much longer. Maybe something like that might help? If you want more info on the diffuser, just let me know and I'll post it. :)

If your child is getting overheated, that may be the problem. My daughter has ALWAYS had really bad dreams if she gets too warm. She has to sleep in very light clothing.
I also recomend a "Family Bed"! We've always let our daughter sleep with us! She has her own room anytime she wants to sleep there but hardly ever chooses to unless she has a friend sleep over. We manage this by having 1 full and 2 twin beds pushed together. So most nights it's me, DH, DD, 3 dogs and up to three cats in the bed. Most of the critters sleep on me LOL! If my daughter has a bad dream, I'm right there and she usually goes right back to sleep. I find it works for us;)
