I was wondering if anyone knew of any online magickal mentors currently taking students.
I'd like to seriously solidify my education in the craft, but my area us very... un-pagan. Only recently did a pagan-oriented shop ope, and I've been unable to find a teacher, no matter how hard I tried. =( I've also considered online classes, but my budget is a little tight...so the class + supplies would put me WAY over the line.
I love practicing solitary IRL, don't get me wrong. However, I'd really like to have a teacher of some sort to help guide me through different areas and help me build a strong foundation in my knowledge.

*nods* Yes. Unfortunately, most of the nearby people listed seem to be beginners themselves. =/

I live in the ever-tiny town of West Leechburg, outside of Pittsburgh PA. :) My town is veeeery small, and so are the surrounding communities.

You may also be able to get some assistance through this site:
International Witches Meetup (http://witches.meetup.com/)
Many people have been able to find, or start, monthly meetings with those of like minds.

Thanx for the link, Freyja. I checked it out, but all the meeting spots are in Pittsburgh. While Pittsburgh is not drastically far away...it's pretty far for a meeting. =/

They are always looking for people to host meet-ups. Have you thought about starting your own in your area? You could start by visiting the group in Pittsburgh. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a few people from your area might already be attending and may be interested in getting something together closer to home. The meetings are held in public places, like restaurants and coffee shops, so you wouldn't have to invite anyone to your home - and they'd help advertise it by putting it on their site!

Which online schools did you look at? How much did they cost? Some of the ones I've looked at are sooo bloody outrageous. I mean, I understand the desire to make a profit, but what happened to sharing the Craft with others because you LOVE to do it?
I ran a free Pagan online school back in th' day. Unfortunately, it fell apart after awhile in spite of my best efforts...posting lessons became a lower and lower priority on the teachers' lists, since they werent getting paid for it, and the students were in turn less than diligent from the start about completing homework assignments and giving the teacher feedback on lectures and such, since many of them just signed up on a lark, since it was free. SO frustrating. Anyway, to conclude my little tangent, I'm thinking of starting it up again, but it looks like it'd HAVE to charge at least a nominal amount for registration and such, so I'd have SOMETHING to pay teachers for their work.

C'mon, some people are selling pieces of the Columbia space shuttle. *shakes head* Anything for a buck.
But, then again...heh, Paganism has no tithe to take 'care' of its clergy or teachers either. :)

I agree with Mol and like his suggestion about finding someone on this site or another that you may be on to work with you online.
I'm fortunate to live in an area where teachers are plentiful, and the only exchange that is asked for is that the person commit to showing up for the classes and sometimes help with set-up. Money is never required.

Ugh, I just can't fathom the morals held by people who would do that.

That is a good point, but kind-of the way it should be. There shouldn't be a set rule in any religion, saying that one must pay one's teachers or clergy. As a community, we should take care of each other, yes, but I just don't think that there should be a price on knowledge of the craft. We should share it with others simply because it needs to be shared, not because we need some quick cash.

See, that's the way I think things should be. A system like that provides equal-opportunity learning.
