Hi all. I joined MW last night and have been enjoying it immensely. So I've decided to share a little of what I've kind of picked up through my own thoughts/experiences... kind of "giving back to the community", I suppose.

I have yet to do this, but I'm planning on it, now that the weather in my area is nice. I live kind of out in the boonies and there's this beautiful park just down the street from where I live. This is a hiking/exploring type park, not the kind of park with a playground and screaming kids.

I've found that the best place to relax is in nature. Most of you prolly already know this... I recently rediscovered it (this weekend, actually). I plan on taking my decks and runes to an off trail location that I did some meditating in to do some cleansing and readings and further meditation.

If it is possible where you are located, I suggest you give it a try for some readings you may do in the future. If you're used to the city, get out of it, into the woods, or even in your own backyard. If you can find a tree to lean up against in a quiet enough area, it makes a big difference. Being stuck in the house, you can feel energies around you that will distract you from meditations or readings.

Bring a blanket, a coat, maybe a snack. Do whatever you wish with your cards... lay them out on the forest floor, or bring an alter cloth to lay them out on. Concentrate on the energies of the forest, and of your cards. Let them exchange energies, etc etc. Use your imagination, go with the flow, follow your nose, you get the point :)

If you have a hard time binding to, or getting used to your deck, or learning to use your deck, try treating them like, oh, say, a pet. Make them comfortable, hold them carefully. Make your experience with them fun and interesting. Make them a tarot bag. Not for you, for them. Make them a cloth to lay out on when you're doing readings. Buy beads or trim to fancy up your cloth. I have yet to make my own bag/cloth, but I have given them a few "comfortable" places to lay on, if that makes sense. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to make some nice designs up for tarot clothes. I will post them when I do.

I have 4 decks. Technically 3, because one of them, the "Healing with the Angels" deck isn't exactly a tarot deck. It's more like a Christinized tarot deck. I saw it, fell in love with it, had to get it. There are 44 cards and there are no negative cards. It comes with a little booklet telling you about each card, you know, the usual. I've only done one reading with these, for reasons unknown. I like 'em.

Then I have the Cat People Tarot. I like this one because I have a connection with cats. I haven't done much with this, mainly because I don't like how the book describes each card. When comparing card definitions from the Cat Tarot book with other tarot books, they just don't match up. I don't know, guess I'm an old fashioned kinda gal that likes things like that being the same. Slap me if I shouldn’t think like that.

I also have a Raider-Wait deck. I think the spelling might be wrong on that. I lost the deck somewhere around this dang house, so I can’t check. I absolutely loath the book that came with this deck, so I try to ignore it as much as possible, but I really like the deck. It was given to me by a friend, and I spent quite a bit of time cleansing them, making them become accustomed to me. It has a really nice, classy and classic feel. I’ve done a couple readings with this one, and I think it turned out well, especially the first one. I think it’s my favorite deck and I really hope I can find it soon. If anybody out there is good at finding lost things for other people, give me a holler :-p

Another deck I have, which is also lost, is the Goddess Tarot deck. This one I’ve done a few little readings with for myself. This one is okay… it is “meant” for women, more or less. If I do readings for others in the future, I might choose to use this one for women if it seems to call to be used for them.

Okay, guess that’s about all I’ve got to say right now. I could probably go on and on, but I gotta go feed myself sometime today. ?

If any of this has inspired you or helped you or confused the crap outta ya... you know what to do. Comments are always welcome.

May your magic never falter…

I've never tried doing a reading in the woods. I might do that this weekend. What a great suggestion!

Too cold to read outside here most days lately...*shivers* Maybe if I wore my furry coat, but my fingers'd freeze before I could finish shuffling! :D I'll definately keep that in mind for this summer, though...I have a few spots in mind already!

One of the very first readings I ever did was at my Altar in the Woods.
I love reading outdoors!
When I visited New Orleans I wanted to have reading done. Of course there are readers everywhere. I choose a reader outside on the square instead of someone in the shops.

I live in the woods so technically, all of my readings are in the woods :D

But seriously, I haven't tried reading outside and I'd really like to try that but I'm sort of wondering how confident I will feel--or rather, how paranoid I will be that someone might be watching me. Cowgirl, do you ever feel that way at your altar?

Yes, sometimes I feel that way. Usually my dog goes there with me....but she stays outside my circle. She seems to know exactly where the line is and she stays right outside it. :)

Is there a private space in your yard you can use? We have a barn wood table built on our front porch. (Our front porch actually faces the field instead of the road.) When the weather is nice that is my favorite place to write in my BOS and read books. I will probably do readings there as well.
