Hello! Merry Meet and Blessings to ALL! I am a beginner student in Astrology, only have read 1-2 books on it, but I would seriously like to have it as part of my life! Career or hobby... But I find it difficult to find information on the subject. I am also into Numerology, and find that much easier to get a handle on! With Astrrology there is sooooo much info, and I have questions about Vedic Astrology and Western Astrology ... I am a part of a mailing list, but if you ask for help there, a lot of the time if you are inexperienced, they think you are trying to get a free reading. So I kinda have been all alone on this one, and it is so exhilarating to find you guys! *RBH* I looked over the lessons that you all have been participating in, and found that I am not too far behind :) I just thought that it would be nice to say hi to everyone! I am a little overwhelmed at the moment with excitment and joy! So I will write again soon, but right now I think I should relax, breath, and have a glass of lemonade! ;) I hear it's fabulous!
Many Bright Blessings to All, Alphyna

Have you read "The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need"? Of course it won't be, but it's a good place to start! LOL!

Linda Goodman's books are excellent, too. I have her "Star Signs" book on my group's reading list.

Alphyna, welcome to the community!
Glad to know you have been making use of the lessons; much less has been posted to add to them as it seemed we were innundating people with too much all at once. Get the basics down either on western astrology or eastern as it is difficult to learn both at the same time. Taking small bites and chewing well after each serving is the best way to stay the course!

Just feel the urge to echo the "Overwhelmed" sentiments. :) I had insomnia, so I began this forum at the beginning (I had promised myself not to start MORE new study, especially as in-depth, while I was still doing the Tarot, dream, and Kabbalah ones, but I couldn't stay away) and found my House and Quality and Ascendant, but then I got to the Birth Charts and went kersplat. :p
I downloaded the astrology program to map out a chart, and I'm now so amazingly confused that my head is swimming. How much does it matter getting your exact coordinates? I was able to locate those of the city, but not of the hospital I was born in.
Edited to add: would I be out of place to ask if maybe I posted the birth chart I got here, someone could translate it for me? I tried for a while with the sample ones a page or two back, but the general look of it is different, and I'm not sure how to follow the lines. :(

the city coordinates are fine, it's not really necessary to find the exact spot you were in when you came into the world; as far as for the deliniation of your chart, it would be easier if your posted the date time and place you were born so that one could construct a chart on one's own.
I know personally that this is the way I have to look at things.

Heya Litha....do you have some kind of syllabus for the lessons in here? That might be a good addition!

WoW that's a good idea; if every section has a syllabus, that would make for easier navigation for everyone throught the site!

That is the problem that I have seen over and over again with astrology,is that the answers to questions either miss the basics, and go right to tetrahedrons and mystic rectangles.....LOL or they skip the origins of HOW this all came to be :> I have several books I recommend,
Isabel Hickey's Astrology , A Cosmic Science, Derek and Julia Parkers' Parkers Astrology, Grant Lewi's AStrology for the Millions. I would also recommend treating the study of astrology the same as any other magical study, and look for the book that appeals to you in what ever way, aesthetically, the authors style of writing, what ever draws you :> . If it jumps off the shelf at you ................
A small excerpt from the Happy StarClad Dancing
School of AStrology ( bring your syllabubs :>)
Some Elemental ideas :>.....
The elements have been ascribed to the signs since
antiquity through the inherent qualities noted and the "rulership or main correspondence" of the planets and the lights.
The sun and moon are technically not planets, and are really considered and called the "Lights" in a chart :>
The asteroids are not usually assigned or have
corresponding elemental associations, but since they are usually in a sign, they can be said to have the element ascribed to that sign.
Elements appear to have been and still are in a very real sense the building blocks of the world, and our most ancient ancestors , in their quest for understanding and using their knowledge began naming them , and they used what the knew to be the inner subtances of things,
Earth , air , fire, water, and the some eastern cultures add wood and metal, but in astrology we have the basic four.
The basic attributes of each element ...fire .... for instance , being lifegiving from the sun, activating and warm , seems to be the natural way of being for some people, and slowly as these observations were made, correspondences were made to different signs , because each sign has either planetary ruler or a "light". And the
ruler of each sign can have different "elements" inherent in it , as Venus does; but which element predominates , or which aspect rules is part of the quality of that sign.
Venus in the more earthy and creative aspect is found in Taurus, while Venus in her wisdom combined with beauty is found in Libra and thus considered to be air.
Leo is "ruled" by the sun, so the element is fire. Cancer is ruled by the moon, and the element is water, because I am absolutely certain the ancients didnt miss the actions of the moon on the waters of their world. The"psychological " attributes of people under certain signs
were noted as well and in ancient Greece this system of"classical " astrology was devised.
Quick list..........
Aries ruler Mars Fire
Taurus ruler Venus Earth
Gemini ruler Mercury Air
Cancer ruler Moon Water
Leo ruler Sun Fire
Virgo ruler Mercury Earth
Libra ruler Venus Air
Scorpio ruler PLuto Water
Sagittarius ruler Jupiter Fire
Capricorn Ruler Saturn Earth
Aquarius ruler Uranus Air
PIsces ruler Neptune Water
School is OUT.............................LOL your homework assignment is to go
to a place where there are no lights from civilisation and imagine what it must have been like for our ancestors to see and feel the very real presence of the stars every night.
heheheheh
