Hello, first let me tell you a little bit about myself, I am a thirteen yearold female who resides in the province of Alberta, and I am looking for an online teacher, preferably female. I have been told by many that they will nto accept those under the age of 18, so please do not chide me for my will to learn about the craft. If you would be interested in helping me along my journey, please reply and tell me a little bit about yourself,
Thank you,
Aries

Hmm.... this gave me a great idea (or so I'd like to think - bear with me as it's not even 8 AM yet)... Why not establish some kind of online study group? A couple of people - mainly newbies, but also others who'd like to attend - study and discuss together, using a certain book/website/or random collected material, supervised by one or more "teachers" (i.e. more experienced people).

I know there are online classes to take, but they often cost a lot, and you never really know what you get...

What a wonderful idea, AstraSkye! This seems to be a question that members ask regularly and I wonder if you could build a group here at MW.

I helped establish the pagan community in the small town where I live and we started with an e-list. We now have 25 live bodies or more attending a monthly meet and greet! In addition, a women's circle and esbats and sabbats take place regularly.

Good idea! I've seen this asked here every so often. I know Rainx has started a few lesson threads (stuck at the top of this forum). :D Maybe we can convince her to add a few more? Heh!

I'm happy to see that our (I say "our", because I'd like Aries to have at least half the credit) idea was appreciated. :D

I "see" a special "Online Studies"-forum where classes are posted, as well as the assignments, along with laid-back discussions between the students, who study at their own pace.

I actually got a PM about this thread today so I thought I'd comment ;)

In the past I've added a few lesson threads (the master thread to them is stuck at the top there) under different nicks I've used (Myst and Raevyn). Lilu's two threads are also extremely useful, and I like to think the thread I started on "Where to Start" is also a bit of a help to some :) Magick & Rituals also has a few stuckies that are great (thanks to Freyja), and of course each forum has it's own stuckies that are good and pertinent to the subject. There is a wealth of info here at MW and I'm always available if people need help finding it. We've even had a book discussion thread in the past, we've also had a study group before.

What happened before, with the study group, was that a whole lot of people jumped up and cheered that they wanted one and would participate. Then I started one, and it kind of got nowhere - people didn't really participate. I find people are really excited at the outset, but then as the excitement of having a new thing fades they wander off. Also, when people don't have to pay for something, sometimes they don't commit to it either - when you haven't invested in something it's easier to not put your effort into it. I'm not trying to judge anyone or say anyone here did that, but I've really seen it in other places (for instance, one group I'm in that started with about 25 people and now only one or two others even show up at all, only a few weeks later). I think this is a big reason why some places charge - not because they need or want your money, but because some people are more likely to really invest some effort if they're required to invest money into it.

I'm currently trying to think up a new lesson thread to start, and though I'm really not qualified to do so, I know I'm one of the few folks here at MW who does feel ok in posting lessons or guiding people. For instance, I know Kaylara would be better qualified to teach a lot of stuff here, but she probably doesn't have time. You can go to Rick for runes and Norse info, and Wildchild for herbs and recipes, and Litha for astrology. We have a lot of experts here, who are often willing to lend a hand if you ask nicely :)

Maybe I'll start another thread similar to "Where to Start" that outlines some resources and books, subjects and ideas, to look into, as kind of a study outline. I don't really feel qualified to teach people but I feel like some folks wouldn't mind someone to learn with. Aries, have you visited some of our stuck threads here in New Pagans and Magick & Rituals?

Rainx, you are welcome to start any lesson threads that you'd like in Magick and Rituals, unless you feel that this forum would be better. I don't know what constitutes being qualified, but I've read your posts for a long time and I'm sure that you are knowledgeable enough to take on such a brave task! :)

Rainx~

You are too nice...

I would love to post some lessons up here... But I do feel the same way you did... I did some lessons a while ago regarding divination and trance work, and people jumped up and down and were excited... and then they disappeared. It's discouraging as a teacher to not have people participate in something they asked for... Especially when you've worked hard on coming up with the lessons... So if we had some people who would firm this up, and commit to a lesson plan, then we might get somewhere, and I would be glad to help...

I have and online Study group For my Coven - Order of Dragon Magic.

I have two possible options. I could post the lessons up here for each person to do (for the non coven-specific lessons), or you can apply to join the online coven/study group.

Please either post here or email me for more details, as I think posting my site will breach rules...
