View Full Version : A Question About Hematite

Hello!
I recently got some hematite from my local metaphysics store, and the first thing that I said when I put it on was "Boy is this strong!" xD
However, it seems like its making my back hurt for some reason, because whenever I'm wearing it, I'll get the worst backaches, even if I'm not carrying anything or standing up. I'm not wearing it now, but I would like to be able to soon, for when I go to prom (It goes with my dress, and it'll keep me calm)
So... Is there something wrong with the stone, or me, or is it a drawback of using it?
Thanks for any help you may be able to give! :)

Hematite is usually thought of as a grounding stone in crystal magic. It absorbs excess energy and can be used to balance the chakras and protect a wearer by absorbing baneful magic. Unfortunately this also means it shouldn't be worn when you're working or exercising because it can sap your energy. I suspect that's why it's giving you these problems. My suggestion is to pair it with an emitting stone like amber or rose quartz to complete the circuit.

Hematite is widely regarded as a stone to be used with care, because it can be excessively grounding. Anyone who has problems involving fatigue or decreased energy simply shouldn't use it at all. Not only can it exacerbate these conditions, but it can render one effectively incapable of raising psychic energy, and close off psychic awareness.
I had a hematite ring once, which broke. I replaced it a few days later, and less than a week after I started wearing the new one it removed itself from my finger while my hand was closed into a fist, and didn't break until it hit the floor. If it had broken while it was still on my finger, half of it would have wound up in my hand. I'm still not certain how to explain this, other than that I wasn't supposed to be wearing hematite anymore. I never replaced it.
For those who's lives are adversely effected by an inability to ground, always flighty and "head in the clouds" or who need great protection, especially physical, it is an excellent stone. As daecon says, it is almost always improved by balancing it with a high energy stone. I once made a charm for a friend that was intended to help him focus on the task at hand while he was at work, as a teacher. It included hematite, carnelian, and several herbs for soothing and strengthening the mind.

Oh, well I don't think that it would be the best for me to use right now... xD
Thank you! :)

I don't want you to think you can't wear the stone as jewelry if you think it's pretty. You can, just be aware of its limitations. As a grounding stone, it absorbs magical energy, but that energy doesn't just disappear. It's stored in the stone. It will fade over time, but it can be easily recovered by pairing it with an emitting stone. The result is a continuous cycle of energy like a fresh breeze.

or you could probably use false hematite jewelry if you just like the look.
It goes by the names of hematine, hemalike or hermalyke. Simulated hematite is also used in the making of magnetized hematite as hematite has a weak or non magnetized magnetic state. Magnetized hematite is used for healing purposes such as healing in general, boosts in immune system and other body parts. Do not use if you have a pace maker, other medical electronic devices attached to you, if you develop skin conditions, for very young children or if you are pregnant. Also keep away from computer hard drives, credit cards and other items which use magnetics

This is a little late, but I wanted to add that in my case with a hematite bracelet, whenever I wore it for more than a few hours it would draw out physical issues I was having but were hidden.
To relate what I mean to Daecon's advice about sapping energy, I think of it as doing exactly that, draining energy and my weakest points were affected first ... in a way alerting me to a physical problem I wasn't aware of. I'm a female, so the best analogy I can make is being pregnant. Growing a human puts such a strain on the female that if she is lacking in anything or having latent issues with an organ, you tend to find out during pregnancy (gall bladder issues, calcium deficiency, blood pressure issues, etc). I imagine the stone works similarly for me.
I'm going out on a limb here, but perhaps, there's something weak in your back? Prior accident? dehydration? lack of exercise? *shrugs* Just throwing wild and crazy ideas out there ^.^

Actually Adalai, that's an interesting idea, and I think it's worth pursuing.
I just worked a gem and jewelry show, and the lady I was helping had "titanium fused" hematite rings (think titanium aura quartz (http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.177048952.jpg)) so I picked one up. Its effect was surprisingly gentler than regular hematite, but still perfectly effective at grounding me during the rush of the show. I won't be wearing it except during situations like that.

Hematite also has a tendency to absorb negativity. This is why when it gets "full", it breaks.

That's one reason anyway. That can be prevented by cleansing it (and all jewelry) routinely.
