After years of using many different decks, I've felt the increasing urge to create my own deck... has anyone else ever done this, and if so, how did you go about the process of creating the deck? Is there any reading materials that anyone would suggest I read before undergoing this task?

I'm wondering what kind of paper/card stock to use.. and if i should stick to natural inks for the images rather than use processed chemical inks.... and if any of that would really make a difference...

Hiya Lucidia ~ Merry Meet!! I love your avatar ~ is that you?

Ive been thinking about painting my own deck too for a while now but cant find the time or patience to plan it at the moment. So big thumbs up to you!!! Total respect!! Good luck and I hope it goes really really beautifully :D

Id say just go for whatever you like to paint/draw in and go for that ~ after all your are going to be drawing allot of cards ~ you need to feel comfortable with the materials you are using and make them personal to you.
Make sure you get some good quality paper if you are going to be painting ~ watercolours would be really nice I think ~ or Acrylics if you like bold colours.
You can always laminate the paper/card after! This is cheap and very effective as it protetcs your cards and makes them stronger aswell.

:sunny: Inspiration!

I know that you can get a blank deck to work with.

I've never created my own deck, I've had no need for it. Robin Wood Tarot suits me just fine.

I've heard that people have created decks using pencils, colored pencils, oil paint, water color and the likes. My suggestion would be to use the medium you are comfortable in. :)

I have to assume that you have been reading Tarot for a while, and have a basic knowledge of traditional meanings for symbolism. I would suggest using symbolism that is unique to you.

Once you have created the cards, I know that here has to be some type of protective spray to seal the cards. One you have done this, maybe you could take the cards to a copy center. Our local copy center can create almost anything. I don't see why they couldn't create cards from your pictures. That way they are professionally done and you can always order more. :D
