I used to make up names for characters in books, and took my inspiration from Tolkien. In fact...i made up a language aswell which sounds supiciously like elvish! *chuckle*
but now my brothers staying with me for a while...i wake him up too and we make hot chocolate for a flask and wander off into the night...

That's the same thing a guy I used to talk to online said to do when I had bouts of insomnia. I was surprised that it worked.

"Stiffler's mother." **chuckles** Why not just call the band MILF?

Toss and turn. Get up...irratate the room mates (who are up during the day and I work graveyard). Irratate the dogs and cats. Go back to bed. Toss and turn. Get up...

Well, you get the picture.

It's my heavy-duty thinking that prevents me from sleeping......So I'm usually going over the day's events. Think I said, should have said... (roll over) What I should do the next day, how many hours of sleep I'm going to get, worry about my provincial, think about the past (roll over again) re-calculate how many hours of sleep I'm going to get, worry about how tired I'm going to be in the morning, wonder when my mail is going to get here

And so on. Every once in a while, I come up with some wierd theory of some sort.

Yes. :D

Also: get online (yay MysticWicks!), read a book (boring, preferably), watch TV (when I'm at my mom's house...I don't have one in my dorm room), wander around, go to the bathroom, daydream about sex (hey, you asked!). Also, if I have some vodka or alcohol in the room, I'll take a few shots. That usually knocks me out.

Adament: we make up band names at work when we're bored (which is all the time!). Some good ones are 7 Minute Grace Period, Slugs Have No Properties (copyrighted by me!!!), and a bunch more that I'm forgetting for some reason.

That works well, too! MW is quite active at night (which would probably late afternoon/early evening for the Americans)...

I still do this when I'm bored. A co-worker and I came up with a few not too long ago:

Festering Sores

Smooshy Cushions

The Evil Ding Dongs

and my current fav,
Other People's Snowpants

You know, someone should start a thread about this in Just Silly...

:eyebrow: As, usual....the dog won. Plus she made herself right at home on my chest for the rest of the night. Darn dog, she thinks she's a cat. TV should do a reality show in my house. Either my ratings would be great...or there would be a bunch of people at my front door with straight jackets in a hurry!!!!

I'm mostly with Flaire. I do a lot of tossing and turning. My mind thinks -waytoomuch-.

But usually, since I have no life, I stay on the computer alllll night, wait until I'm nearly drooling at my keyboard from being so sleepy, then carefully get into bed.

Usually though I'm wide awake when I hit the sack, and I tend to turn into a day-sleeper doing this, which upsets everybody. :-/

As for band names... one I came up with was Fool's Paradise, but then I found out it was little bar/restraunt thing in my hometown. It pissed me off and I've banned myself from trying to be original ever ever ever again :-p

Hail the tosser-turner club!

I read quite a bit too... Sometimes draw or something. *shrug* It depends on how sleepy I am at the moment. ;)

My dog is a rat terrier. My mom's cat is bigger than her!!! She lays on the back of the sofa under the window and bathes herself like a cat. She actually licks her paws and then bathes behind her ears!!! You have no idea how many people have walked by..stopped..scratched their heads trying to figure out what species she really is...and then comes back with friends to observe her  She doesn't know it yet, but tonight her happy butt is sleeping in her own dog bed...the $50.00 dog bed that she's supposed to be sleeping in!!! The bed is mine tonight. Sleep here I come!!!!

Wow, i see we have some insomniacs?

Derry

Last night I brought a huge glass full of ice and water and put it on my bedside table...which it actually too close to the bed. Apparently I was actively dreaming around 1:30 or so and my hand hit it and turned the whole thing over on me in bed :bug:
I woke up screaming and screeching. When I looked around my hubby and dog were both glaring at me. Worse of all, I think I woke up the people who live below me. I had to put towels on the sheets for the rest of the night because I was too lazy to change the sheets at that time of night. Mental note: If you flail your arms a lot during sleep, either make sure you drink all of the water by your bed...or don't put it there at all!!!

I'll meditate.

Really. I have to. Otherwise I'll start worrying about anything and everything, repeating events of yesterday over and over again untill I figure out what to do the next time encountering the same situation. Or I'll turn on the lights and start reading - but I can't stop reading. I'm used to reading and it only makes me sleepy when I put down my glasses. Even worse, I'll get up and start doing something, and by lack of anything better to do, I'll start cleaning the house (a needed action I never seem to come round to).

So I force myself to meditate. I can meditate for hours, untill either nature or duty calls. Beats insomnia by a long shot.

For the past two weeks, I find that I haven't been able to sleep! Aside from finding way to amuse myself, does anyone have any suggestions to invite the Sandman to my house?
I've tried changing my diet so that I don't eat anything close to bedtime, I've tried going to bed at the same time every night, I've tried reading, I exercise, I cut out caffeine...
:wah2: I just want to SLEEP! I am getting so CRANKY, I can't stand even being around MYSELF!!
HELP!

have you tried meditation???...i find that when i have a hard time falling asleep (which is almost always)...clearing your mind, concentrating on a single object in your mind and repeating a simple phrase like "sleep...sleep...sleep" in your head really helps....

Too bad! If I have to suffer, so do you! :tongueout

Well, I usually have no problem FALLING asleep, meditation DOES help with that! But I only sleep for a few hours and then I wake up. Last night was a good night...I slept from midnight to 4am!
I usually watch Turner Classic Movies, but last night was Frank Sinatra night! No offense to Frank fans, but I REALLY didn't feel like seeing his mug at 4am. So, I flipped through the channels aimlessly. Everything was boring, but not QUITE boring enough to put me to sleep! I even tried our local evangelical station, and that just made me roll my eyes and squirm.
I didn't want to read because my eyes are sore (that happens when you don't sleep!) and turning on the computer was a chore. All I wanted to do was SLEEP! I'm telling you, if I don't get some sleep soon, I'm gonna SNAP, and it ain't gonna be pretty!
