View Full Version : Texan and Pagan.

Is it just me or are there no Pagans at all outside of the major population centres in Texas? I have seen listings of people in DFW, San Antonio and Austin, but nowhere out in the middle of nowhere really. Most of Texas's population is made up of towns under 100,000 people, yet there are significicantly less people total in the rural and suburban areas than in the close-quarter urbanite settings. This speaks to me a bit, as I cannot see why this would be; why is it that say 25% of all Texans are in major centers of population, but 75% of all Pagans in Texas are from those areas? I am confused and lonely, here in Tyler. Anyone else here from the general area of East Texas?

There are quite a few pagans in Texas. There's an Oklahoma/Texas pagans e-list but it's pretty dead right now. When it was active, we had quite a few members from Texas.
There are a few new sites that are trying to help get pagans together. Some people have had luck with them, others haven't. You can find them in this thread.
Groups are springing up all over the place here in Oklahoma. When I began participating, there were two in Tulsa. There are now five, and the one that I helped establish in my small town which has members from two other small towns close by.

I lived near tyler for a while. Little bitty town called log cabin. Used to be a trailer park until the county bought it and gave it a town charter. No joke. I'm sure my story can be validadted. That area of texas has a few pagans around. I didn't happen to meet any when i was there, but they are around. Just have to look for them. That is a pretty rural area. I doubt you will find a whole lot of pagans around. Mostly small towns were everyone goes to the same church and knows everything about everyone elses lives. Not my cup of tea. Also the ground in east texas isn't all that fertile for people who aren't white and christian. Keep looking, your bound to find a few here and there. Look around at Athens too. I remember hearing of about two or three of us there.

I live in texas, but i am not pagan (sorry!). But, i live in a small, barely heard of city named Corsicana, and i work in retail...from talking to a LOT of customers that come in, there are quite a few pagans. I usually see an interesting piece of jewelry on them, and ask about it, and nine out of ten times, they turn out to be wiccan or pagan. you just have to look hehe

i'm in texas, houston actually, but i'm atheist..sorry. i only study paganism. although, if you go to some sites (i'll try to find the links in a minute) it shows that a lot of pagans are in corpus, tyler, conroe, etc.

I've actually heard of Corsicana; it's mentioned every day on the local weather and news. Next time, I might pay attention to see where it is. :)

Many things,
First
Girl nickel,
Timmy wishes for an alien, gets one, and its parents come to destroy the earth and take back their kid, in part of the cartoon Timmy is told there is good new and bad news, timmy askes for the good news and is told of his impending doom, he then asks for the bad news and is told he was told the bad news. timmy asks for the good news which is that cosmo found a nickel. Later he is again told that there is good news and bad news. the good news, cosmo named his nickel phillip, the bad news, ITS A GIRL NICKEL!
Second.
Corsicanna is pretty close to Tyler. Wow thats nuts, I wish i would have known about this site when i lived in Log Cabin/Malakoff/Athens.
Third
My condolences for being stuck in Fort Worthless let alone Texas at all, and thats coming from a native Houstonian.

I'm from Austin, there's alot of pagan communities i think in Austin...well it seems like it from the many listing of sites i've gone through. But i've yet to see anything like activities going on...well there's a camping thing that happens every year...forgot what it's called..but its held somewhere in Fayette..or somewhere close to that. I'm not pagan or a wiccan....that's only because i dont believe in labels. =) but very interested...there's actually a pagan society or group at UT Austin.

I live in Austin, but I'm not sure I can be of any help to you. I do know someone who lives/used to live in Tyler, but she came to Austin for events and whatnot.
If you contact the Dallas CoG they may be able to hook you up with some local folks. Give them a try.

*grin* There are LOTS of activities that happen in Austin. Check out Tejas Web, they can point you in the direction for all the local stuff that happens. You can also check out PNO (pagan's night out) which happens the 13th of every month at Opal Devine's. Natural MAgick holds open circles every moon. And I've been known to host an open circle or two :)
If you want some contacts or anything, drop me a PM.
