Hello,
I have recently started to get to know Isis more personally but i find myself a little confused. I have found information on the net and in texts that suggest that Aset is both a lunar and a solar goddess? I was wondering if maybe her lunar aspect might be more to do with the mother goddess side of her? and that the Solar is more to do with her Magick? That is the gut feeling i get when i ponder on it, but i would love to get other peoples opinions who work with her.
Thankyou! :hyper:

(ps i thought i would add that i am working with her as more of the teacher of Magick than her mother aspect, if that helps with any suggestions)

I don't know much about Isis/Aset to answer but I'm curious as to why it's such a confusing thing that she might have both solar and lunar associations? And why the lunar needs to be associated with maternal associations? If I were to venture a guess based on what I do know, I'd say that she's a goddess with many aspects, some of them happen to be lunar, solar, maternal and magical, they exist together, as part of her, not arranged in opposition to each other and association with one or another.

I found it confusing in that i wanted to make sure that what i had been reading was correct, the Lunar maternal association was just a feeling i personally got because when i think of her teaching magickal side i think of the story of Ra and gaining his true name, also i usually see her with the sun disc when she is without her wings. For me i am working more with her Teacher side not the Maternal, that is why i was after a bit more info.

If you want to know about Aset, you should probably meander over to the Kemetic board. Since Aset falls into that category.

Many Kemetics will argue that Aset and Isis are different. That Aset is the Egyptian deity, and Isis is her romanized counterpart. So it really depends on your own point of view. I can't speak about Isis, but I can say that Aset is more solar than lunar. Sure, she's got many facets, but she wears a sun disk on her head, for crying out loud. So I would consider her more sunny than not. I don't believe she's an eye of Ra (like Bast, Sekhmet, etc), however. I would say that some of her more 'mothery' attributes come from her getting melded with Hathor later on in AE history. But Hathor is also solar.

As a magician, I'm not sure that she is directly linked to any particular element- solar vs. lunar. She is tricky, and can be conniving- if one uses her mythology as a guide to her personality. Perhaps the solar vs lunar element isn't really necessary to learn magic from her (heka in Kemetic speak). As it wasn't really associated to one over the other.

Thankyou for replying, that helped a lot! i have been meaning to look at the posts on Heka, Ive been so absorbed in reading about her and her Mythos so far. I am just finding it hard to find much on her Aset - Heka aspect, i have trolled through most of the posts on here through the search function but most seem to focus on the Great Mother Isis, also a lot of the links are now dead unfortunately. If i have missed any or if anyone knows of some new sites i would be much appreciated.

i have been reading this blog i stumbled across which has been quite helpful with prayers and some ritual work- http://the-broom-cupboard.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2011-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&updated-max=2012-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=25

Ah, okay. I see where that could make sense to you.

Ahh yes, I know her.

There really isn't a lot on heka out there. Many of the papyri we have containing heka would probably not be of much use to us now adays. If I were in your shoes, I'd start to build a relationship with Aset, sit with her, tell her what you wish to learn, why you want to get to know her. If you're truly dedicated to it, and not just in a passing phase, I imagine she'd direct you into places that she wants you to go. She's good at kicking people in the pants to make them move. In that sense, you might not need a lot of books- esp. since there aren't many out there (on the heka topic).

Yes i definitely got the kicking sense from her, also "a what took you so long?" sense as well. I got a book which does pathworking with Egyptian gods, which i saw someone else had posted about on here

the Isis one had me bawling, it felt like a long time coming home. I know its not recon but i felt for me it really helped getting to know her on a personal level.

I have also found a bunch of websites on Heka in my searching if people are interested im happy to post links over at the Kemetic forum?

Thankyou for the reply posts they were very helpful :boing:

i dont know that I would have a use for them (i don't use online resources). But perhaps there are others who would find it useful. Can't hurt to share the knowledge around.

Don't know much about this particular goddess... but I do know that in Egyptian mythology solar and lunar did not equate to masculine and feminine. I.e. Thoth, a male deity was associated with the moon.
