I have recently been given a new magickal name upon my re-dedication a few days ago, and would like to change the name on my profile...is there any way I can do this without starting over again? I'm not avoiding anyone or anything like that, it's just that Raevyn Cigany is no longer and I would like to be known by my new name....

Help, please?

(which I will still be known as, familiarly)

i think the only way is to just re-register under your new name, which is easy enough. the only thing you'd lose is your post-count (and who cares anyway, right?).
then you could always add something in your profile if you still want people to know you from your old name.

but remember...
a magickal name is NOT the same as an on-line handle.
a name given ritually during a dedication is something that alot of people choose to keep to themselves, a name by which you communicate with the Gods.
i would never use my magickal name in a public forum (even my wife doesn't know it!). 'Greenman' only exists in cyber-space, and i would never thake that name into ritual with me.

but some people aren't bothered by this, and use them interchangably.

just something to consider.

Congrats on you're new name. this question has been brought up a few times...and I hope he doesn't get mad by this, but Mol has said it is too difficult to change the name, so you need to re-register. And of course, let us know it's you. :D

I'd just like to mention that my craft name is the same as my moniker here. I've heard a lot of people say that letting other people know it makes you vulnerable to their sway, but I feel that it empowers me. It holds very, very personal meaning to me, yes, but I see no reason not to share it with people.

Congratulations on your new name, Rae, and good luck on the new path it brings you to! :D

well, my post had nothing to do with the 'power of names'. i wasn't referring to the legend of Bran, or Rumplestiltskin, or anything like that (although those are fascinating stories, and in another time there was probably alot of validity to them).

my point was that, for me, the space i'm in when i'm with the Deities is entirely different than the space i'm in at ANY other time. that is by choice and by design, and i wouldn't have it any other way.
so i don't want anything from the mundane world interfering with my connection to Them, and i feel that the handle i use online is very definately a part of the mundane world. even worse (in my mind), it's part of the cyber world, a place that is fun and occasionally informative, but is NOT real (again, to my thinking).

all of this is only my way of doing things. i'm not here to tell anybody that it's right, wrong or other.
but i do think that before someone takes a step that they later may feel invalidates something as important as a magickal name, that they should have access to various opinions on the matter.

these are mine.
