I'm curious to know if there are any here who practice hoodoo/rootwork that have used skull candles to influence another's thoughts, and if so, what your results/experience was?

A shame no one has answered this thread as I'd like to know the answer as well. I have been thinking about using skull candles as another resort if my current workings do not show any progress. So... bump!

Since originally posting, I've conducted my own "experiments" and have found them quite effective when used properly!

I've used them, although not strictly hoodoo. I burned the white ones for wisdom, black for protection/keep away burglars. I had a back fire escape window that was vulnerable in one of my Rochester apartments. Kept charm bags, talisman hanging from the sill, and a black skull candle studded with scary looking pins on the inside ledge facing out. It's appearance probably worked better than magick, though, it wasn't even charged. Someone did try breaking in one night. She must have seen my little trinkets, because shortly after I heard someone tugging at the window, I heard a scream. She didn't come back. She was trying to break in next door, and drunk, had the wrong window. Her scream alerted my neighbor, who knew who she was, and she was busted the next day.

You probably wont get too many responses.
Attempting to control the thoughts of another person is pretty taboo among most of the circles on MW so you're unlikely to find too many people who will pop up and offer their favorite designs for such an occasion.
Skull candles seem a touch melodramatic to me.

Skull candles can be used for many powerful types of magic, including strong defense and manipulation of all things. I personally have a black skull candle that is the size of a human one and only burn it occasionally, while using it more as a channeling for strong spirit energy. I also have a small crystal skull which I use, which once again allows brings many great energies to my work, as much of it deals with the spirits of the otherworld.

I have used them, typically for thought-control spells. However, I can't say I find them more effective than other kinds of figural candles for this.
I have enjoyed their results for harmful spells, though.

We used one wth a few other things for an offensive protection spell, part of which included controlling a person's thoughts, or to keep him from certain thoughts in our case. This was like the fourth time the guy had asked a third party to mess with our family because he didn't like my husband.... -.- It was very effective. No problems since! :)
We don't practice hoodoo/rootwork, though. Sorry. :(
I think another shape candle would have worked too, but the symbolism was stronger with the skull shape.

In all my years in and around Palo and Santeria, I have never used them. I have seen the couples candles used, and have seen them in the botanicas. I have used dressed candles, 7 day candles of certain colors or for certain saints, knob candles but mostly, and in particularly most of the daily or routine ceremonies, just the white utility candles.
