I don't even know why I continue to read these threads: they only depress me and make me cry...:(
Do people not realize that every living creature feels the way we do? Do they not know that these beautiful creatures live and breath and feel the way we try to? What makes them think we are any better than the cockroach we try to "exterminate"?

When I read this, I was hoping the end to the story would be that whoever was trying to drown the dog wasn't able to swim, fell in the water and drowned themselves. :D
I don't care about the "sanctity" of human life - anyone who does this isn't human to begin with.

 As the mommy of a 5 year old rat terrier dog and loves animals dearly let me just say it sickens me to hear about this. They depend on us for love and care. I hope that poor dog gets a good home....and that jerk gets appropriate punishment.

That's horrible.. people can be so insensitive to the feelings of others, especially animals, and are sometimes just downright cruel. On an unrelated note, several thousand people died on that same day due to starvation in third-world countries, and several million assorted animals were slain by humans or other animals for food. Yet we don't mourn for the thousands; we mourn for that one dog. The death of one is a tragedy, but we somehow have an impartiality built up against the statistics of mass death and suffering. The story, albeit horrible, is only minor considering what all goes on every single day in the 'normal' progression of the world and its inhabitants.. :(

Tragic, but I regularly hear worse. Maybe it's just something in my local area. When I was a kid and on through college I heard stories (bragging on the storyteller's part, mind you) that make this episode sound like a Disney flick.
Tellin, I mean absolutely no offense by this, but I just can't help noticing the irony of you posting this, considering you last signature line. Again, no offense. Hell, I agree with that signature. Just me noticing life's small, silly ironies.

Totally agree. Like I said, I meant nothing by it. Just some trivial little bit of detritus I noticed in passing.
