I happened to find an interesting article at http://www.phhine.ndirect.co.uk/archives/flsh_gbarch.htm that discusses homosexual and bisexual elements in mythology and magickal practice. Those who are interested in this topic might find it thought-provoking.

Wow. Very interesting and insightful, thank you. That would be an interesting topic to explore in more depth. Since homosexual relationships (at least between men) were fairly normal in the classical world, I'm sure there are more of these myths buried just under the surface... He didn't touch much on the lesbian theme though- I wonder if that was personal preference or if he hasn't found any?

There is the whole Sappho body of material, and then the Amazon legends of course, for lesbian-centric myth. I suspect the author of the article was just working with his own preferences.

Well, the Sappho material (while wonderful) is not strictly a part of classical mythology in the same way as, say, Homer... It would be nice to have examples of dieties for lesbian/gay worship beyond Artemis and Dionysus. Maybe I'm just being whiny though? *grin*
