Alright, you gals seem to know where all the renisancy', off the shoulder, simple (and comforatable to wear) dresses maybe. I am looking for a wedding dress. I want it like I described above- I am a non-frilly gal. I used to have my "dream wedding dress saved in my favorites, but my computer crashed and I can't find it.

Here: renstore.com (http://www.renstore.com/cgi-bin/renstore.storefront)
They have dresses AND patterns! They also have a real-paper catalog - that's a plus to me, I like catalogs...
I got the pattern to my wedding dress from them. See? (http://hive-mind.net/tzench/Ceremony/Pages/Image17.html)
Hope this helps. :)

Okay, a couple of suggestions - first, go to your local fabric store or even Walmart and check out the patterns in both the Evening Wear and Costume sections. This should give you some ideas, among other things.
Check out eBay and type in SCA and Ren Fest - tons of cool dresses should show up, many of them new and custom done.
Check out www.SCA.org for the Society for Creative Anachronism in your area - chances are good you will find at least half a dozen competent or better dress makers who may be willing to help you out.
Call your local college theatre department. Chances are good there's a talented grad student in the costume department who can help you out (I did this a few times). The possibility may also exist that you can borrow or rent something already made from their collection.
If you were in my area, I'd jsut offer to build whatever you wanted, but I don't do that without being able to fit you in person.
I just bought a bunch of McCall's formalwear patterns because my local store had a sale for 99 cents apiece. You might like McCalls pattern numbers: 3449; 3681; 3861; 3010;3053; 3869; and P305.
Of note, before you purchase a pattern for someone to build for you, if you aren't a seamstress yourself, make sure you take accurate bust, waist, and full hip (the widest part) measurements. Pattern sizes have nothing to do with contemporary dress sizes.

McCalls patterns are very pretty, but in my experience they don't fit as well as Simplicity patterns. But these are all great suggestions.

*laughs*
There's almost no such thing as a pattern that fits exactly - that's why you need a good seamstress/sewer - so that a pattern can be altered and customized. Having sewn with many commercial patterns, I can honestly say I've never made anything at all from a pattern that I haven't altered in some way, for fit at the least.

*chuckles* I never make anything exactly like the pattern either. I laughed my butt off at one Ren Fest when I saw two girls wearing the exact picture off the pattern, same fabric and all. I just find that in general Simplicity patterns require less alterations to fit well. Your mileage may vary.
