View Full Version : Serching for Ritual music

When i was Catholic, my favorite part was always listening to the organ play songs in minor or diminished scales. Sort of a "dark air" so to speak. This is a habit that has stuck with me. I cannot be in ritual without proper instrumental. Drums don't do it for me. Organs and strings do. I'd like to find music like Castlevania IV's "Name entry/Password". (yes I KNOW that it's a video game but it's the best example of the type of atmosphere I'm trying to set.) Anything that gives off that feeling would be nice. Something to make me feel as if I'm truly in a dark temple. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't even know what genre to look at. I've been searching for days but to no avail. And i really don't think "Church music" is appropriate as for me it holds an unfavorable stigma... I could really use the help. Please and Thank you.

http://www.myspace.com/daemonianymphe not organs, but very ancient feel.
Corvus Corax - maybe too many vocals, but great atmosphere

In a general sense this music is really cool. Although i'm not sure how well they'll work for ritual. At the very least, Thanks for the new bands :D

I don't know if you've heard of her but Emilie Autumn is a brilliant violinist. The classical pieces on laced/unlaced might work, but i don't know: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laced/Unlaced. Otherwise i strongly suggest apocalyptica - you can listen to some of their music on YouTube. They do some covers, but also pieces like Path which might be more up your alley. Good luck!

I'm a big fan of using the album "Spiritchaser" by Dead Can Dance.

Celestial Mozart is my favorite cd to play during any kind of ritual work.

That is so funny R. Eugene - before I scrolled down I was thinking of posting the same thing! Otherwise Sigur Ros is a great choice.
