View Full Version : Would you use it?

A friend of mine has an idea for a new business, and I thought it was really unique, but I wasn't sure if people would actually use it or not.

He wants to sell printer cartrides (and cartridge refills), filled with "magical" ink, like dragons blood, doves blood, lavender ink, etc. His idea is that those people who have their bos on their computer (like me), can print out the pages using this magical ink and they'll be more magical or whatever than if they were written by plain ink. You get the point, now what do you think? Is it a good idea? Would you use it?

I wouldn't void my printer's warranty with it. And what would those materials do to the print nozzles?

I would worry about the consistency of the magickal ink as compared to regular ink. Is there any special level of density ink for printer cartridges needs to be at? And does magickal ink get clumpy or go bad after a time? (I imagine you'd only use it occasionally, not for printing everything.)

Wouldn't risk my printer on it, besides I still believe a BOS should be hand written..........but that's just me........

i wouldn't use it.
i tend to agree with Old Witch... and putting 'magickal' ink in a printer doesn't make it magickal to me. i think that comes from preparing the ink yourself, or at very least actually using it.

to me writing itself is a magickal act, much like knotwork. and i wouldn't put 'magickal thread' in a sewing machine and expect any real result.

just my opinion.

I agree... hand made things I have always believed work better. Or at least, they feel better. :)

Sorry, but I think it defeats the purpose of the BOS and the inks we use. I also don't think it would sell and your friend would be left with alot of stock.

I'm not sure if your friend could sell it.....but i think it's a wicked idea! Imagine typing letters and printing them out with Lavender ink! That's so funky! I'd use it....especially if the lavender ink smelt of lavender too.

On the other hand, imagine actually learning calligraphy. ;) Now that's a wonderful artform. I was introduced to it during elementary school during an advanced learning program, but never really learned it. I may, eventually. . . **smiles** one of those things to put on my lifetime to-do list.

I would have to agree with the concensus of the ink in the printer. I don't even buy the refill kits for my printer. Sometimes one can really mess up a printer using those kits. I have a good quality printer that I don't feel like trashing. Besides, on my budget I can't afford another one.

But otherwise, it's a good idea for those who use the computer and printer to work with their BoS if it can be done.

Same here...

:) Well, it looks like you got some good honest answers!

It's a good idea. Though like everyone else here I'm not sure if I'd risk my printer on it. If it'd been tested and it could be guaranteed that it wouldn't damage my printer, then sure.

Quick Question: What about those of us with just awful writing?

Who else has to read it? ;)

Good point, but you don’t understand. My writing is just atrocious. Combine classes who’s lectures are based on dictation alone and writing all day long…. Bad. Really bad.

**Nods** Then it's a good opportunity to slow down and maybe practice better writing. :) You don't have to rush this, since it's not class note-taking or dictation.

Must learn patience is what you’re saying :) Thanks. And now back to the thread sorry about the thread jacking.

*chuckles* that would be like the apiphany of Technopagan. But ich, nope, not me.

I've never even used a special kind of ink. . . . how do you get it in the pen?

(Or I suppose it's something like a quill or fountain pen?)

The words are special enough, for me. *smiles* If I'm doing something formal like I did when I was first learning, I use a pen for that and only that. (Ironically enough, now that the book dissapeared, the pen has become my calender pen *chuckles*) Right now the only thing I have that's close to a BoS is made of binder paper held together by hair ties, and I scribble notes in it about runes, gods, etc. *smirks* Not the holiest of books, unless you count the three-hole-punches in it. But it does the job, and I made it myself. :D

LOL

It's a wonderfully cheesy idea.

While my printer is a POS I still wouldn't put ink into it that wasn't meant for it. So I agree with folks there.

However, I'm a little upset that folks are trashing the computer BOS's. If you want to handwrite your BOS then that's YOUR perogotive. But if others want to keep theirs on 'puter, then allow them the courtesy. I don't think it's exactly nice to condescend by saying that a person should "practice writing". It's not homework!

A BOS is personal and if THAT person would like to keep it on their computer because that is what they are comfortable with then great! It's always in the same place, special graphics can be added....etc. I think it's a cool idea!!! (Just remember to back it up on disk every once in a while.)

I know folks who do both. They keep a handwritten AND a 'puter BOS. Sort of a back up and for those spells that are used often (like for the Full Moon and such) they can print it out if they need an extra copy.

Anywhoo...ending my rant now.

Another suggestion, why not just take the recipes for the inks that were going to be made for the printers and create a business by just selling the inks. Get some pretty empty bottles, include some stationary...BOOM! This way, the stock (if it's already been made) won't go to waste and there is definately a calling for it. Could be good!

Good luck!!! :)

Greetings Amethyst Rose:

I already make, mix and use magickal ink in my inking process of my artwork...and then the originals GO to a printer. Although I DO have a printer at home of course...What generally gets spat out of that one are things I wish to read later, copies of correspondence from various stores, email copies, or the girl's school reports and the like.

I'm afraid I'd have little use for magickal ink for my printer. What I record - witchwise - is all hand written.

I like the thinking process you've gone through on this project. I love when people take something mundane and find a way to make it magickal. But this particular project, I'd have little use for.

As a suggestion instead: Why not make certain blends of this fabulous ink and take it on the market? I mix my own...but they are mixed to serve the purpose of the artwork being rendered at the time. You, however, could blend inks...adding scents and such and start yourself a cottage industry(?) Besides to bottle and sell such fabulous Inks would be easier to market for you both.
Now...that I WOULD buy...especially if there were scents involved. I cannot mix scents into mine - changes the texture of the ink too much for me to have the proper flow through the nib...

Good Luck...and keep those creative juices flowing.....think of all the things we touch everyday that ARE magickal indeed....
but of the ways YOU can make them **witchy**...
just too cool!
