View Full Version : Lesson Three...

Alright, so I'm not that patient either!
Here is the next in the chain...
Can you guess?
Trial by Fire...
I souldn't have to explain the basis behind what you have to do, as long as you follow the sequence to here, so I'll just give you some advice.
If you think Wind was hard to comprehend it's language, well that was NOTHING! Fire is more flighty than Wind and more stubborn to talk to than Stone, so grab some espresso and Tylenol and go have a converation with Fire.
I anxiously await the stories.

Will any fire do? Is the bigger the better?

The author of this wonderful set of lessons decided to leave the internet FOR OVER A YEAR  ahem, and leave the rest of us [at the time] in limbo until I could coax him and his beautiful wife to this place I now call home. :D
So now I tread new ground with everyone else. For I never proceeded past this point even though I probablycould have, had I so decided to. The motto of this being it's always eaiser if you DO have a teacher in these kind of things. I have probably lagged in the learning curve by not having one but that is a personal choice.....mostly. ;)
M & N.....(hehehe sometimes I just crack myself up) I Love you two and I want to thank you again for taking me up on my offer to come here. May all your dreams come true.
Peace,
Twig

ANY fire will do, bigger DOES NOT mean better. With Fire, bigger means BADDER! Campfires, fireplaces, tiki torches, those are the types you want to deal with. Fire really gets an attitude as it gets bigger, just ask all the trees up here in northern AZ that got hit last year. Just remember, you're a Druid, and can WORK with all the elements, not master them, just work in unison with them.

Seriously, all of you;
I have other lessons to follow this set as well. As long as the interest holds, I'll keep supplying the material. I really do enjoy everyones responses, from the simplistic yet concise, to the ones swimming in the bardic prose. You are all wonderful. Druidry is enhanced by all of you here.

Well I have this a shot last night... and about the only "result" I can report is that the flame I tried to speak with seemed rather crazed. Does the fuel you feed your flame have any sort of effect on its personality? I couldn't understand him (it seemed like a him to me) one bit, it was just sort of... mad. *shrug?*
I'll try again in a few days.. Maybe I'll practice on candle flames..

Well, you made contact, that's a start.
Fire, out of all the elements, is the most "wild". Not crazy, just "untamed", the one that has the least actual contact with humans (obvious reasons! OUCH!!)
Trying on a smaller scale is always good. Keep us posted.

The least contact, ouch, so you say. I live in fire. The fire of life burns deep in me. Just give me an excuse to barbeque. I love the smell of chared hot dogs. Can't stand eating them, but they smell real nice all burnt up and all. Had my first barbeque yesterday. My wife wouldn't let me burn the ribs. She's always ruining all my fun, but I did get to drink some fine wine. Ok, that took the edge off my need to burn. Jim

No, Jim, I was the one who lived in fire. TWICE!
First was living in Phoenix Arizona fro 30+ years! YUCK! 115+ degrees IN THE SHADE!
Then I move up to northern AZ, and what happens?!
One of the biggest forest fires in history!
Of course, what do they say? Out of the frying pan...:nyah:

I haven't really talked to any of the elements so far, I've just been listening to them. Ok?
The Candle Flame
I dance
I leap
I twirl
I move with rhythm all my own
Reaching high, then sinking low
Flickering, then flaring
Constantly in motion, never still,
I dance
I am heat
I am light
I am passion
I am joy
Heating the air around me
Melting the wax beneath me
Burning away the wick that
holds my essence
I dance with the air
The currents and eddies sweep me
back and forth
I dance for hours until exhuausted
and spent, I die
And a white plume of smoke
drifts upwards

and fire is the passion.
Watch me burn, don't get to close
I'll eat you up, don't want that much
Speak to me, I want so much
Give me away, I'll set you free
Stop me cold and you'll grow old
Who's talking now, I cannot tell
Fire finishes mine, I start his
Where do I begin, where does fire end.
Ok, so we verse too much. So who said we all could be bards?

From deepest violet
to blue
to green
to red
to orange
to yellow
to white hot
I twist and change.
for I am the heartbeat of the Mother.
Yet from the sky I crackle and burn,
I am also the voice of the Father!!
I am the High Magick afforded you from both my parents!
I am the expression of the love between them.
And yet, I am proof against the darkness!
My light drew you to you, and Truth, in a dark fog.
It is I that fuels the fiery passion in your heart!
For I am the Twin Flame that dances a spiral
within your mind and around your heart.

So we all can be bards. I like telling stories anyway, just not very musical. It's so much fun to hide a life lesson in a story about nothing.
Sometimes I get so lost in the story that I forget all about my original point. Then it turns into one of my yarns. This can and does annoy the heck out of people, so everybody has to have a gift. Mine is annoying the heck out of them. YOu know you find out what you're good at and you go with it. See even this short little post is turning into a meandering yarn, so sue me.

Fire in the sky lights my way by day
Reflected light at night shows me the way at night
Fire like an eye in a blue place
Makes all the flowers bloom in this green lace.
Flowers that I spy
Said the fire in the sky
Make it all worth my while
And brings my heart to a smile.
I know short but sweet. I hope you like sugar.
The sun sees the daisys in a green field
Relections of my glory make it so real
There here every morning ready to go
Heaven's reflection but do they know.
What's this I smell
Want to dance and yell
Like inner child at play
Dancing through the day.

My trial by fir went (for lack of a better word) swimmingly, though i think the fire i made has quite the ego. (Note: "Fire I started refers to a number of candle, not lighting the house on fire :))
~*~
Fire, fire burning higher,
soon to be a gaint pyre,
here for you to admire.
Flames of sun and flames of dune,
all is ours that is under the moon,
we have taken, we have given,
feed us or away be driven.
Burn for seconds, burn for hours,
all will be awed by our powers,
to all things we have a tie,
I may go but we shall not die.
We can be far, we can be near,
we are everywhere you see or hear,
burning low or burning bright,
we are candles in the night.

Relax, sometimes it takes time. Fire can be one of the more difficult ones due to some people's fear of fire. Might that be the case? If it is, that is part of this lesson as well. One that we haven't even touched yet, overcoming fears of the elements. I personally thoght we'd have someone who was hydrophobic.
If that's not the case, well try doing something to get your adrenaline flowing really good and try communicating then. Fire can be a real fast mover and will sometimes ignore someone "slower" trying to talk to it.

hopped up on adrenaline, a full moon, a good crowd, and a massive bonfire....20 feet at the base, peak at 7 feet or so....it was a wondrous stage upon which i danced.....thankfully denim only smoulders but what a rush.....a wild energy....not that the flames were too high or was i there for too long.
it was a moment forever to be branded in my memory.

What all did it share with you during your dance? Please, share. sounds like a wonderful, intimate experience.

June 21st, 2004, 12:41 PM
what did the fire share with me?
freedom.
pure, liquid, freedom, flowing wild off every wisp of smoke, and it took all my stresses away like a case of euphoria.
walk softly, it said.
so i did, first physically, then mentally, for my coping skills with aggression were non-existant at the time.
the fire consumed my negativity like it would consume any worry doll, and with the burden being lifted, i was able to see life through a new set of eyes.
being a little melancholy was a nice rest from being high-strung all the time.
i love fire.

Ahhhhhh fire........so much to be said about fire. My fire gets the better of me most days..its flames crackling and popping so loudly and forcefully I am hard pressed to hear naught else. It is a constant struggle and battle of wills for me to dance with this element and not burn all who lie in the path including myself!!!!!
I was born to the sun, named for the moon, and yet I am all about FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The attention fire demands from me is exhausting most times and infinately so intense it fractured in two, bringing me to my twinflame in a balefire during Beltane. Metaphorically speaking that is.
I work with fire in a relationship of nonbalance to this very day, for it always seems to burn hotter than I am willing to admit until after the fact! And so...I hold water VERY close to me to counteract my own inherent flames! Fire speaks to me.....fire screams at me....DANCE..wild and abandoed through your days, be BRASH, OUTSPOKEN, STRONG, INDEPENDENT, TAKE CHARGE and LEAD!!!! It bellows LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It summons me, calling and drawing me to it.
I am hypnotized, mezmorized as I watch.
The flames dance, swaying to the hiss ofthe heat.
Breathing and pulsing with a life of thier own.
The power of fire is timeless and real,
Part of the energies you and I feel.
Seek comfort in its warmth ad shy from the burn.
An eternal force from which we can learn.
Left untended, untethered its force can be deadly.
Respected and honored the power is friendly.

fire.
easy to conjur and create . difficult to control. it and along with its cross elements are instruments of creation and destruction. i see both within the path of the magma.. destroying the ground before . creating new ground behind it. it is that which wipes the slate clean and cleanses. the choking ash that soon settles into fertile soil. the enveloping smoke swallowing you whole only to clear and see whats left standing. steam is very cleansing. the radiance of the soul. fire deep within that comes to the surface to share with another soul its essence. i.e. passion. here is a little fun poem i wrote a while back
fire
the ruddy flicker
the yellows, reds, and blues
to dance a spittering tiss and toss
emanating a sensual giddy laughter
fire a light
light a fire
the spark of creation, inspiration and passion
the ding, ping and sing
a life beating awake.
sometimes you got to light a fire under someones hinny to get them moving. its warm and enveloping but in an instant is sharp and hurtful.

Oh I have made a friend of Fire
and sit long nights nearby.
She hypnotizes me to make
long winter days pass by.
She tells of dancers lithe that move
to rhythms of a drum
In circles round her dancing self
’til hearts inflame as one.
She wears a dress of orange and red,
A cap of gold and blue.
No dancer e’er is finer,
She outshines them all, ‘tis true.
She spits and jumps and threatens
all the beasts who might intrude
Upon the dance of spirits bright
Deep in the great, great wood.
For all wise creatures fear her well,
and fear her well they should.
In cunning ways she may betray
E’en those who find her good.
Her sparks may fly and drift upon
a dry and wasted tree
And she might choose to grow until
there’s naught but ash to see.
She flies aloft she dances large
Tree gods become as shadows.
She takes their kingdom all away
And gives it to the meadows.
She dances in the cloudy skies,
She rumbles deep within the earth.
She leaps in flashes to the ground
And rising up gives mountains birth.
And yet she lights my little lamp
and heats my cup of tea
I feed and watch her very well,
she is a friend to me.

Okay, I haven't read a thing here except this last post of Myrddyn's (and don't worry, the name stays ;) ).
I'm having a bit of an issue with fire. Get this. My first lesson, and mind you, he's only agreed to give me one at a time. He doesn't want to waste his time spewing forth bonfires of wisdom (his words, not mine) if I'm not going to listen and heed. Okay great. That's fair. I can work with this.
And guess what my first lesson is?
Trust.
Now, this is a good lesson for me, no doubt, and I don't have a problem learning it. But, he wants me to trust HIM and worse, he wants me to prove it.
I can see it now. I "trust" him and leave a candle burning when I go work, only to come home to burned down house. And my next lesson from him would be, Common Sense, right?
Anyway, I'm gonna be here for a bit, I think.

Trial By Fire
The flicker of a spark may stir me
From the deepest depths of the rock i seethe
To the highest flutes of molten rock i erupt
Setting the sky ablaze with my heat
The drive behind the will is mine to push
Whenever the winds howl and the cold encroaches
I am the blanket that allows life itself to continue.
I crash to the earth on feathers of flame
to annhiliate the foes beneath
or to be reborn
Tendrils wrapped around me speak of many
items to be made or remade at their wish
When i feel its warmth caressing me
I can not help but smile
Even when I am not seen
I am felt
Burning down that which is most beautiful
or nurturing the lost hunter
I am both the healer
and the destroyer of life

I summon forth the flame on bended knee,
With all of the reverence it deserves.
Leary of it's reaction,
I lower my eyes as I speak.
"I am awed by your power and spirit
but I cannot bring myself to trust you, yet.
I am sorry, but I know too little of you."
Silence.
My heart races as I await some response.
Silence.
My eyes are drawn to the flame.
A whisper.
"Well done, my wise companion, well done.
You are right in not trusting that which you do not yet know.
Consider your first lesson learned."
I smile through my tears of joy.
"Thank you, my...
May I call you my friend?"
The flame bends towards me,
as if in accpetance.
"Yes, a friend, indeed.
And a friend with one last word,
for today.
There is one flame you can already trust.
The flame within your soul.
Do not deny it.
Do not turn a deaf ear to it's call."
And minutes pass.
Hours maybe,
with the spark of my soul
communing with this beautiful flame,
my new found friend.

So, that's my EP.Slow down. If the fire had complaints, perhaps it was saying more to you, but you would not stop to listen. Fire may be put out, but it rises up again. I think fire was begging you maybe to slow down and let it live on in your lessons before moving ahead.
Although I doubt that fire begs much at all. And it is not afraid of much. And it seldom complains.
Go back, go back. Slow down.

if anything, fire is hunger,manifested.
fire is always willing to have more....complains....no, it just takes. it's fire, afterall, and what has fire ever turned down?
probably like stumbling into the cave of a dragon or hill giant....these creations know that they have no nemesis, and provided it is an enlightened traveller in this foreign area, only wisdom will be exchanged.
it must be lonely being as powerful as fire is....no one ever wants to stick around and talk....they all run away screaming.
think about what fire would want to talk to you about.
all nature's creation, be it man, beast, or otherwise, has been put here to grow and interact, and all that steps in the way is time....a man-made invention...something that has no barring in nature.
patience and natural progression, my dear Living Dawn, are definitely two areas i would look into if i were you.
these things take awhile.

I love these lessons, so I'm hoping I'm not going through them too fast. I guess the best thing is if I learn something, and I have! A lot!
Here is my discussion with Fire, as far as I can remember it:
"Joy! I get to burn! I am dancing again! I get to dance!"
I smile, then ask "Can you talk to me?"
"Joy! I get to burn! I am dancing again! I get to dance!"
"You're very hyper!"
"I love dancing! This is so fun! Wee! Joy!"
"Aren't you going to talk to me?"
"Native Americans"
"What?" I ask.
"I'm dancing! yay! I am dancing so free! This is fun!"
"Now I know what Twig meant about the Tylenol..."
Fire keeps going on about dancing and having fun. I say:
"Can you please calm down a little and talk to me? :) "
Fire doesn't seem like he listenes very well.
I tell him that I'll blow him out if he doesn't talk to me, but he must have known I wasn't serious because he kept dancing. I then tried to see if I could get any sort of vision from within the fire.
"Please talk to me fire."
"You used to be a Native American in your past life. You've seen me before! It was in a spiritual vision that you had while sitting around me!"
"You?"
"Me! Wee! I'm having so much fun! I get to dance! Joy!"
At this point I kept trying to talk but Fire wouldn't have it. I decided to call it a night with Fire, and then I forgot to ask his name.
"What is your name, Fire?"
"Jelly!"
"Jelly? That's an odd name for a Fire!"
"Well, it's Jeliala* but everyone calls me Jelly"
At this point I thought "Fire is a girl!"
"It was nice meeting you Jelly" :)
I blew her out.
(Jeliala pronounced Jeh-LIE-la. )

"You wanna run that past me again? Commune? Ok...
I am a primal scream of energy. I could devour you, but choose not to. I am hungry - I must feed. I am glowing, contented warmth. I am fed well. I have a house where I live. This is as tame as it gets! Watch yourself, I bit your mother" (she got a bad burn not too long ago). "I die easily, I rise easily, I contain many smokey salamanders, I contain the essence of the Phoenix. You too may rise again."
Hope that's doing ok, I don't even know if anyone is looking...

Fire always holds a strong impression with me,odd being a water sign, but this one flowed out easily...
Awens to the forge, raging rays of dawn!
Heated temperment of blood rakes the heavens,
Yea the reaper has illumined the sword!
Lay the sparks to the anvil!
Brids shieve hast ended the unholy,
For the reign of the flaming beserk,
Hast unfettered the souls sweet bounty!
The flame of life is the Staff!
The flame of death is the Spear!
The flame of creation is the Anvil!
Thrice is the immanent brow!
For as all,not may impair thee...
Thrice flame,thrice knowing,
Great is the tuneful tribe!

I should be abel to handle "fire" since I am a fire sign. But my mommy told me to never play with fire.
