Are there any "die-hard" Star Wars fans like me within this community?

Anyone into "spoilers," speculation on new episodes, novels etc.?

Just curious...

I have seen the original Star Wars movie, but none of the new
one(s). Are they as good as the original?

May the Force be with you grasshopper. :D

I was only 8 when the first movie came out. One of my aunts was 21 and dateless and wanted to go; so that she'd not have to go alone, she packed up me, and off we went. And we saw Star Wars at the local drive-in no less! I'll never forget that.

I'd like to strange JarJar, though. However, he's not so irritating in Terry Brook's novelization of Episode One.

The drive-in is where I first saw Star Wars as well...

...I must say, it sounds much better in THX.

I'm almost embarassed :o to say that I have seen the original trilogy way over 100 times each and can recite them, by now, line for line. My best friend, however, is way worse than me and reads all of the novels and writes fan fic. She's really quite good. Here is a link to her site if anyone wants to read Han and Leia romance.
http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/TranquilityStars/
and there is great fan fic at http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=2109368&replies=168&page=6
My friend's name is Dant Solo.
She gets awesome reviews. If you aren't into the romance aspect of it, Mission from Hell is a great fic. Well, enough plugging my buddy.

I was a kid when the first one came out, I think my kid brother is more nuts about it than I am. I think I've seen the original 3 at least 50 times. I've only seen the new one about 3x, even though I have it on video. I'm not as excited by it as the first one, however, I am intrigued to see how that adorable little kid, turns into mean ol'Darth Vader.

I love Star Wars.

What I consider Star Wars is:
- The original three movies, not special eddition.
- The three Timothy Zahn novels.

Thats it. George Lucas has flushed the franchise into the sewer. Just play Star Wars video games, watch Episode I. The whole thing reeks of commercialism and hype. Jar Jar was created to sell toys. I mean, look at what people are posting. Owning three copies of the same film (old, THX, and SE). What? Nutz. I bet you'll by the DVD's too.

It's sad, as the potential was so great.

----

But was it fortold? Episode IV had youthful, jovial charm. But the really heavyweight of the series, Empire Strike Back, was only loosly touched by the hand of Lucas. (Han going into the carbonite is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time.). That Lucas comes back 20 years later and makes a, oh I'll be blunt, simply retarded film, are we to be surprised? Again, I'm frustrated, as good Sci-Fi is very few and far between. Oh well...

I admit to being a geek of the highest class. I know star wars backwards and forwards.
Don't care for treck as much except the Star Treck 2: Wrath of Kahn.....

"You may have Genisis Kahn, but you don't have ME! If you want me you're going to have to come down here! YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO COME DOWN HERE!"

Nothing tops Return of the Jedi though

Boy, you said it!!! Empire was by far the best film. Hey, you could see what was to come in Jedi. Just look at those damn Ewoks.
As for the Special Editions, the only things that I would have changed were the new footage of Cloud City and the extra Wompa footage. Greedo shooting at Han first was just retarded. They were across a bistro table. I hated that. I hated the Jabba scene. That did not look like Jabba, and it was just plain retarded, and the new Jabba's palace footage was way too much. With all that, you would think Lucas would have spent some extra time fixing Han as he goes into carbonite. That magically appearing and disappearing vest drives me nuts.

Nothing beats the 1977 Holdiay Special, though. I recently purchased it on Ebay, and it was just as horrible as I remember. Lucas, part genius, part H.R. Puffnstuff.

As for Episode I :

I think it was a good setup for things to come. Looking at it from the standpoint of story line, as well as visual effects, sound, etc.

I feel the story had to be told, and there are only so many ways to do it. Yeah, it could have been better, less commercial (too much cheese), what have you, but all in all, not bad.

I was very disappointed with most of it, but will hopefully recover with the next two. Episode II, in my opinion, will make or break it.

With all due respect, I believe that your opinion is that of the plaintive Star Wars fan trying to find some sort of justification for the disaster that was Episode I. I completely understand, as I once was there.

With all due respect, the film is a disaster. It was the story that nearly came straight out of the newspapers - the evil trade organization (led my moron aliens that looked like a racist joke) oppresses the sovierign planet of Naboo (populated by another racist joke, the Gungans). Echos of WTO anyone? Mmm. This could have been a spectacular movie. But since when does planetary war make a comedic film? A lighthearted romp of a boy and his Jar Jar? Sure, the Stormtroopers had a bit of a goofish edge to them, but at least they could get the job done. The Battledroids? Utterly useless! "Roger Roger?". How many people do we see die in the whole movie? Compare this with the death toll in the first scene of Episode IV. In scene 1 of the film, there are hundreds of ships around Naboo, but that clever little boy Anakin knocks out one, and the whole invasion falls apart. You know, they would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for that damn kid! You know, last time something like this happened, Ben Kenobi had to die. That provides emotional impact. Episode I had the emotional impact of a wet sponge, because the only interesting sub-plot was the Jedi vs Maul, and that was a SUB-plot.

Episode I is a very poor movie with a very large budget. Amazing special effects, but the rest of it stinks. I'm not even going to see Episode II opening week, and I think it is very possible that Lucas has scared enough people with Episode I that the returns for II will be much smaller.

Lucas has proved he has the parts. He has the effects, the talent, the moves. But he pulls his punches to talk down to little kids. Why does Greedo shoot first? It makes NO SENSE. He has flushed Star Wars already. It's circling the bowl. It's not likely to come back.

I'm a fan but I don't disect them like some people. They are supposed to be entertaining, not a religion/way of life. That's why I like them. Not only that but my kids can watch them and I don't mind.

I think there is NOTHING like watching a Star Wars movie on opening day! My husband was not as excited about Episode 1 as I was but I BEGGED him to go grab tickets in the morning so we could go that night, I even let my daughter stay up late even though it was mid week. The theatre was absolutly packed and my daughter had to sit on my husband's lap and we didn't even sit together because we got there after the people were let into the theatre. The energy was awsome and the reactions are priceless.

The next week we went to see it with my MIL and her fiancee. The theater was almost empty, i think it was barely a quarter filled. It wasn't the same at all. My husband thanked me for making him get opening day tickets and plans on doing it for the next one.

Speaking of episode 2, are you DIE HARD fans going to see it or have you given up with this commercial crap?

LMAO! You are so right... though I am not a cult member, as you may think, I do have hope for something better to come.

More so, than anything else, I would simply like to see another good Star Wars movie...

I do not read into the whole "fiasco" as many others do, they are just movies.

I agree ew

The first movie, the more I watch it, it is a little disappointing, but I still love it. I am dying to see the next one, which should enter the clone wars, therefore we'll be seeing more attack ships and interesting war scenes, and none of the peaceful world "pretty" ships.

I think what a lot of people seem to forget is that the movies they're making now are being made from notes and stories George Lucas came up with to do character development in the original movies. He didn't just come up with this stuff because of how well Star Wars sold, it's been there all along.

When the second movie comes out, I'll BE THERE! hehe I am looking forward to it. Speaking of which, I thought it was supposed to come out this Summer, but hubby tells me that the filming went past schedule, and I think they'll hold off on release until next Summer. How annoying!? (Or am I mistaken?)

But yeah. MEMEMEMEME! I am a die-hard fan... love it love it love it.

Just had to pop in here. My husband is a huge Star Wars fan and so is my son. I have no choice but to sit through Star Wars mararthons, Star Wars Trivia, Star Wars Monopoly- you get the picture :D

Here is a picture I just had to share from Halloween 1999. Scott had to be Anakin and it made sense that I was Shmi (Anakin's mom for those who don't know- not like she had a big part, but I did cry when she said goodbye to him *G*). I was teaching that year and had to dress up anyway!

Chris (BTW~ I look nothing like this now- Iam back to being blond!)

PS I have no idea how to put in a picture so if it doesn't come out, I am sorry!8O ~ he he he~I got it to work!

Merry Merry....
READ the Starmaker.....( Olaf Stapledon the Father of sci fi) and get back to me on the past future thing............ and the real issue for me ..... I supppose is that we still derive entertainment from winning wars, past or future.
My son took me to the originals , when he was little, he actuallly took me by the hand and said MOM you have to see this, I think he was nine or ten at the time, so my fondness for the series goes even beyond all of the cool stories and costumes and ideas, which essentially are future based even if the "story says" the past. But he is a grown up now, and is working somewhere in the middle east, so anything with war in the title has a deeper meaning to me that "just a movie". I thought it was interesting that not long after he arrived there Arafat was calling for a cease fire, and I wondered if he had been playing his music , which when he plays , sounds hauntingly like something from a future past.

Love and Lightbending

Great photo chryssi!!!

I was in Montgomery AL when Episode I came out and there was a huge cinema there having a costume competition. A friend of ours made her own costume and dressed up as Queen Amidala. She looked fabulous! AND she won the competition *grin* I wish I had a photo handy to show, but I can't find them right now... oh well.
