Here's a couple little "rituals" you can do to help protect you house... (this is from my BoS, by the way).

General Protection for a House

This is a practice still commonly used today and highly recommended, especially in today's world where the tendency is to build old upon new without regard to what was there before.

For general protection for a house, hang up white linen sachets containing equal parts of rosemary and garlic. Another protection which is considered to be longer lasting is to sprinkle iron filings around the house, going with the sun, and then covering them with earth. This is normally done in instances where soil completely surrounds the house so that the filings
will be returned to the earth.

herbs: basil, bay laurel, camphor. Hang bunches of elder flowers,
cowslips, and rue. Plant a rowan tree.

I have used a Key type protection.

For every door in your home, take a "useless" key (one per door) put them on a red ribbon and hang them above your main entry door.

Take a key and a door....and say a blessing with key in hand pointing it at the door or touching the doorhandle. Once you have done this put the key on the ribbon and get the next key and go to the next door.

I can't exactly remember the blessing to say. Illyandra gave me this one. Illy, could you come around and fill us in?? ;) I can't find the note about it you sent me.

It's basically about keeping evil out, protecting loved ones, and "leaving your troubles and negativity" at the door...you can reclaim it on your way out if you wish. :P

I have had many visitors inquire about it, as my main entry is into my livingroom.

Hang a horseshoe above the main entry to your house ~ outside is better, but inside works. Make sure it looks like U, though, or the luck will "run out".

Oh, yes the horseshoe thing, an old tradition, and a nice one :) Lucky for me my brother and sister in law has got horses so I can get a horseshoe from them,.. :)

Gotta try that key thing too, surely one can make ones own blessing, don't you think?

Blessed be

Emy,

Absolutely~!! Feel free to bless away! ;) Like I said, the basic contents of the blessing were that the Goddess and God watch over your home to protect it; negativity is left at the door and evil is turned away. It was a really simple incantation, only 3 or 4 lines, maybe 20 words at the most. ~Jeesh, wish I could find it!

Usually I am pretty organized when it comes to my "spells" and incantations, but I have recently rearranged my home and I'm still organizing all of my books and papers! ACK!!~ I don't have the first clue where to start looking for this!

Don't worry about not finding it... it will turn up eventually :)

Thanks for the idea on what the blessing is to be about, I am sure I can make something out of that :)

Blessed be

oh and if something is really lost someday and you need it... here is a spell you can try: :)

Bound, binding
Binding, bound
See the sought
Hear the sound
What was lost
Now be found
Bound, binding
Binding, bound.

8O Silly Dagda! That was the one from .The Magical Household by Scott Cunningham & David Harrington . It's in the 'Thresholds of Power' chapter, page 18.

I have also seen something similar with keys in feng shui books, but exactly what and the books involved I have no clue!

There are a variety of rituals/cleansings/spells out there to turn negativity away from your home, if you have or find one but it doesn't suit the specifics of your needs just look up the properties and uses of a few herbs, crystals, or whatever may be your specialty that you try to always use in ritual and just rewrite it.

The same goes for things you read in books, you do not have to copy them word for word. You can change them to fit you the individual. I have found many (but NOT all) wicca/witchcraft/pagan books are very general with what they teach and the spells that are included in the books. I think that is to encourage the individual to get creative and change them.

I know quite a few protection/cleansing type rituals for the home but most of them are not originally mine to post. They are variations on what I have been given or have read. Some are even combinations from different sources rewritten to encompass my needs.

Sorry if I got a little wordy there!

Emy,

Thank you! I always seem to lose one thing or another! lol
I'll give it a try very soon, I can almost guarantee it! ;)

Illyandra,

See, I knew you'd know what I was talking about! lol

The phrasing is.....

"Lock out thieves in the night,
Lock out thieves in the light,
Lock out thieves out of sight."

As Illy stated above, it's published in The Magical Household by Scott Cunningham & David Harrington . It's in the 'Thresholds of Power' chapter, page 18.

Okay, so it doesn't ask the deities for protection, but I would assume that is who you are saying it aloud for! ;)

Thanks Illy!

MM All,

Thanks for all the great ideas...

you can also hang bells over your front door. Another great thing to do, although it it more for cleansing of negative energies, is to use a sage smudge stick..especially when moving into a new home. Move deosil (clockwise) throughout the house with the burning smudge stick. When moving out do the same, but, widdershins (counterclockwise).

Blessed Be,
