Ok! Before I get into it, a quickie disclaimer: NO cynical or bad news posts here! NO statistics about the odds of the outcome! I need as much positive energy sent here as possible!
OH and if you don't want to read the story, at least scroll down and take a peek at the pics--you'll get the gist that way. :D
NOW, let me tell you why I'm posting this request (are ya' intrigued yet?):
There is a new addition to my family--my baby Egg-Girl now has a sibling. :D
Let me tell you how it happened...Today my neighbor came knocking on my door in a complete panic. Apparantly, one of our other neighbor's found an egg in our driveway and picked it up so that it wouldn't get run over. Not knowing what to do she put it in a box on tissues and brought it to my other neighbor's house. There they kept it under a warm light to protect it.
WELL, as they were wondering what to do and keeping an eye on it, IT HATCHED!!!
That's when the knock happened. My neighbor 'S' knows I have a bird (they are dog people) and had no clue what to do. So I went over and we looked up online how to take care of a newbie birdie and what to feed it. S's husband actually went out into the backyard and found some worms, mashed them up (you REALLY don't want to know how LOL) and fed the baby with the mashed worms on the end of a toothpick.
Then according to the online site, it said to put it back where you found it. Well, since it was an EGG when they found it, we were skeptical but it said to keep an eye on it so that no predators could get to it. So there we are, putting the baby in the box right near where he was found (obviously NOT in the driveway) and waited to see if any birdies would spot it. Then we heard--CAT! I never ran so fast!!!
I scooped up the box and gave the cat a nasty look all at the same time--poor cat never even SAW the box! LOL
Anywhoo, I got custody of the little guy and after a call from my father who, has rescued many a baby bird and helped to get them strong enough to go back into the wild...He gave me the recipe for formula and what to feed the little one. He said if the baby can make it overnight, he's got a good chance and yes...I do know the odds...I don't need to hear them again.
So far, he's been doing pretty well. He's had lots of formula and seems pretty strong for a little guy! He rolls over and has made some squeaky-chirping noises and when I picked him up to move him to a warmer environment, he even wrapped himself around my finger like an infant does with their hands after they are born!
My neighbor named him "Lucky" and that's what we are going with! We believe he is a little chickadee baby (I love them) and actually looks like the original Tweety Bird, if you remember that the original Tweety was pink! :D
I'm putting up two pics of the baby for you guys and please, send as many happy thoughts as you can spare! He's just so tiny and he needs all the help he can get.
Thanks everyone and much, much love!
