I know there are other threads on this.. I've looked over them..
But no one ever described the technique they use when they -do- DDtM. I've never done it.. I never really knew how.. what it entailed.. a sample way of doing it. I've always wanted to give it a try.. but was too ignorant to know how.
Any help on this? I know what it does.. just not how to do it.

The usual routine, as I've learned, is a Priestess recites the Charge of the Goddess while gazing at the Full moon, and she either by herself, or with the help of a man, invokes the spirit of the Goddess into her, by drawigin in the moon's lunar energy.
The Charge helps her take on the Goddess' persona, then she is ready to be asked any specific questions. Some Draw Down the Moon just for the sake of doing so, and blessing everyone in circle, just honoring the Goddess and Her mysteries.
I'm a guy ( and a gay one at that), so I can't exactly draw the spirit of the divine feminine in a masculine body, and I have no female companion. If I were to DDtM, I would draw her down into a chalice of clear spring water (the symbol of the divine feminine, symbolizing the womb).
There is also Drawing Down the Sun, which can't be performed every month like that with DDtM. It is usually performed at the Summer Solstice, instead a female draws the divine masculine, the spirit of the God, into a Priest, and he takes on His persona.
It's simply the fact of connecting with the spirit of the Goddess(and God), and honoring Her.

Being a solitary eclectic Wiccan for some time, I had to find my own ways of connecting with the Moon-Goddess and Sun-God energies. I think one can do this at any time although the energies are certainly stronger and more powerful during a full moon or at the summer Solstice.
My favorite ritual so far was to pour myself a crystal goblet (ok it was glass 8O) of water from an artisian well and take it outside to my sacred space. I welcomed the four quarters, then held the goblet high towards the full moon to gather her energies and her power, gazing through the goblet at first. Then lowering the goblet I gazed at the reflection of the moon's glowing face on the surface of the water. Once I could really feel the connection between me and the Goddess, I drank the water, taking the power and energy into myself.
A simple way of connecting with the God energy at any time of the year is to sit or lie down outdoors where you can lean back and relax for at least a few minutes with the sun shining on you. Close your eyes and let the sun warm you. Even with your eyes closed you can see a bright golden-red glow. Just let the energy fill you, but don't fall asleep in the sun. Heck, I get a sunburn in only half an hour. :(

My ritual is very simple--it may not be an acutal drawing down of the Moon, but that's what I call it. I take a cleansing shower, dress in clean, comfortable clothes and wear a necklace I associate with the Moon. I go outside--preferrably when I can actually see the Moon--and I begin with several deep breaths.
I begin by talking with the Goddess, thanking Her for all the blessings I have in my life--I never plan what I'm gonna say; I just let it all come out naturally. When the time feels right I raise my hands over my head with my palms facing inward. I pull the energy of the Moon into my body through my hands, and I let it flow throughout my body. Sometimes I seem to get a better connection than others, but it always feels wonderful! I remain in that stance until I feel that it's time to end it. Then I lower my arms. I thank the Goddess for sharing Her energy with me. Afterwards I ground any excess energy.
I think this can be done at any time, but it feels stronger for me during the Full or Dark Moon. I've also done this during the daytime and drawn in the energy of the Sun. I really don't think it matters whether we're male or female. I believe the Sun and the Moon have both masculine and feminine energies, and that the God and Goddess are happy to share their energy and love with us.

I think I got a basic idea from a book and when I decided to try this, it was difficult because I have no privacy at my residence and back then wasn't comfortable with going outside........I don't really give a flip now. I simply used whatever invocation was in the book, raised my athame toward the full moon and felt Her power flowing through me - pretty awesome because I was in the house.
I have a favorite chant that I use whenever I'm honoring the goddess at Full Moon that I learned from Lisa Thiel's Invocation of the Graces. It's quite powerful and I simply gaze upon her face while chanting it, either outside on the deck or in the car as She lights my way home. It's just as powerful without a formally cast circle and tools.

I've never thought of drawing down the moon like that. I always tried to DDtM using SRW's method described in "To Ride", using a wand and my chakras, but never had much success. I think I might try that next time there is a full moon. Thank you, Lunacie! I will let you know how it goes.
