I have a cousin graduating this year. Her party's in July and she'll be going to a local cc to become a police officer.

What on earth do I get her?

For a cousin, unless you're really close, I think money would be fine. Maybe a gift certificate?

I know I'd prefer to get a gift voucher or something... :)

I voted money, but a gift certificate is a good gift too.

Money would be the best thing. I know I got money and I bought some things for the college dorm. It was better than a gift certificate because I could spend it anywhere.. and I didn't have to worry about not liking the gift.

Some say it's impersonal.. but I think it's just better that way.

i'd say money too as it's "the universal gift certificate"

Money is always really distant. It always feels like the person is saying "I don't have the time to put the thought into it, so here ya go!". A gift certificate if you're reall stuck is always a better option in my opinion.

Ya know, money is wonderful...

I'll tell you, of all the graduation gifts I recieved the one that I used the longest and still have is a leather beige ladies wallet that was given to me by one of my aunts.

May not have always had money in it but it carried all my important things (paper wise).

So, my vote would go for a nice wallet. :D

Here's an idea. How about stuff your cousin will need for college. I had a boyfriend who was starting college. His birthday before his classes were to start, I got him stuff like paper, mechanical pencils, a calculater, notebooks...stuff along that lines. Perhaps what you can do is get stuff such as this with the college's logo or school colors. I know it was something he appreciated when he got it mostle because he didn't have the time or the money to get stuff like that.

But if you have to mail the gift, then either money or gift certificate would be the way to go.

Lol I wish my parents had gotten me a camaro. I got a nice cd player instead *laughs*

I know money would help, but I think I may send a really nice gift, because I probably won't be able to go to the party.

Decisions decisions lol

i voted really nice gift, but if you can't think of something money is good too.

i've found that the best gifts are often something you can use. My father got me a digital camera for my HS graduation.. and it was one of the best things i've ever gotten because it really helped me get into so many new things with my art... and helped me grow and expand my skills.

is there something she's into that maybe you could help with? sometimes a gift certificate is good too... so they can get something they wanted....

Personally I believe gifts should suit the occasion. Your cousin is moving on from her child-life to her adult-life. I would get her something she can use!

When my brother graduated two years ago from high school I took him to Walmart and let him pick out dishes and silverware and stuff. When I moved out of my house after graduation (and most students do) I had a bed, I had toiletries, what I didn't have was cooking/eating things. Is your cousin planning on moving out this summer?

Good Luck, and Congrats to her!!

For my graduation gift, my parent got me an engraved fob watch. It was so thoughtful.

Money's great if you don't know the person. But in my opinion, if you happen to know some little quirk about their personality, the gift should cater to that.

I didn't vote, but I'd go for money, because then she can pick and choose for herself. It really depends on what kind of person she is...

i voted for money, but.
for my graduation my mom said she's going to try and get me a computer (or help me pay for it). right now im useing one of my brothers old ones, :( and he wants it back when he moves out.

so if you can get the person somthing they realy want or have been buging there parents about but there parints just dont have the monie or dont want to spind it on that, then get it for them.

or make a plan with some of the other famly mimbers to all pitch in and get something grate for them, like a spiffy computer or somthing along the lines of that that the person wants but you probably wouldnt by it due to monie costs unless other people were helping you pay for it.

I appreciate all the ideas guys. Thanks!

I think what I'm going to do is take her shopping. She's going to a local college and stay with her mom, so stuff for the dorm isn't really needed. But we have the same tastes I'm sure I'll find her something great!

I think that the best grad gift is a plane trip. I love traveling!! And it is a great experience!!!!
