Okay, I would really like to join/start a coven, but I don't know how to get in contact with others that would be interested in it. Any suggestions?

You can find others in your area by visiting the networking pages at www.witchvox.com

actually, you'll find the networking pages more easily by going to http://www.witchvox.net (that's .NET, not .COM, which will forward you to the page for networking).
then look on the left side for your location.

I heard of someone placing an ad in the paper once which apparently worked really well!! I think anything is worht a try, well not if it puts your wellbeing at risk of course, but most things are worth a go if you want to meet people!!

Witchvox is an excellent place to start. You might also check in with any esoteric stores in your area, or see if there are any local networking groups.
I'd also recommend Amber K's book "Covencraft" which has all sorts of practical advice and ideas; including what to look for and be aware of before joining a coven.
Also the CASHI information (Coven Abuse Self-Help Index: it's information specifically about the kinds of problems that can come up in not-so-good covens, and how to be aware of them)

You might also try www.witches.meetup.com and see if there's any one meeting in your area--you type in your zip code. It's a good way to meet others with similar interests if you feel isolated. I was surprised at the amount of people in my area.

Well, I would direct you to my own resources, but others have beaten me to it!
My current Coven was started through Witchvox, and has used Amber K's book as an invaluable resource in our structuring over the past year. I highly reccommend giving this a try, as it is a very rewarding experience!

I'm so frustrated. I've wanted to attend a Witches Meet-up for months now, but the meetings are always in taverns or bars and I'm very allergic to cigarette smoke. I have made a suggestion on the web site about setting up a meet for us non-smokers, but things seem to move so slowly.

THey really should. Smoke is nasty, why do they host them their?

As to the smoking, a lot of the public places here are going smoke free, and there's a big hubbub about the bars going that way too.
