It's likely that this sort of thing has come up before, but I couldn't find anything by doing a search. And I'm bored, so I figured I'd set up a poll. This was inspired by the "is this an american forum" thread -- Mol was kind enough to post our global distribution, but I'm curious for a more specific breakdown. Thanks for humoring me.

I'm in coal crackin country, aka, northeastern PA. Not really by choice. I used to be a truck driver, and before that, Navy, so traveling was a huge part of my life. But I settled down for now in the grand mountains of Pennsylvania, and until the wanderlust sucks me back into that which can only be described as "That which I was born into" (i.e. Traveling for a living), this is where I'll stay. Besides, cost of living isn't so bad, and I'm sure I'll meet some cool people up here sooner or later! (Been here three years and I'm still waiting!)

I'm in the Chicago area - literally 20 minutes away from Lake Michigan and 10 minutes away from the Blackhawks' stadium (now if only I could afford tickets!). I'm been here all my life and it'll probably stay that way - the only other state I'd seriously consider moving to is Colorado.

For the record, I'm originally from Florida. I'm currently in Ohio--I ran here after a bad divorce three years ago.

Emotionally, mentally, and spiritually I've never left the Pacific Northwest (PNW). And I must say, there is a HUGE difference between the attiutes in the PNW and here in the "transitlands." (I call it that because some maps have us as midwest, some as northeast--and we're right there on the border with Canada (well, if you cross Lake Erie first!

I'm not the only one who has noticed the difference in attitudes either--many of my clients have moved here from out of state.

The best thing about Ohio for me, besides leaving it, is that I've met my boyfriend here. :heartthro

I just moved back to Western New York after living in California for 4 years. When I was there I had to be really specific about where I was from because if you just say "New York", everyone assumes you're from New York City. Even when I said I was from Buffalo, I got comments like "Wow, you don't sound like you're from New York!" or "So, like, is that near Brooklyn?" LOL
Interestingly enough, when I tell people here I was in California, they assume San Diego or L.A. *shrug*

My country is called "The Netherlands".

Which is stupid because we ourselves use the word "Nederland" which would translate into "Netherland". The Netherlands formed a republic that existed over two centuries ago, consisted of 7 counties that still do exist (as a part of Nederland) out of which 1 in particular is known as "Holland". Now the better part of the world think my country's called "Holland". Ah, well.

My language is called "Dutch".

Which is really stupid because we ourselves use the word "Nederlands" which would translate into "Netherlandish", "Netherlandic" or something like that.

My people are called "The Dutch", and one person could be called a "Dutchmen".

No how stupid is that? We ourselves use the term "Nederlander" for a single Dutch person. Wouldn't "Netherlander" be a better translation? But wait, that looks too much like "Neanderthaler"...

Just call me Xentor.

My ex-husband's family lives in a small town here in the U.S. that is predominately peopled with Dutch-immigrants--the few people I've met that are from the Netherlands have been incredibly polite and nice--but the second generation "Dutch" in this little town are very bigoted. Most have bumperstickers that read: "If you're not Dutch, you're not much."

I wonder what it is that destroys cultural heritage. In my home state of Washington there is a little town called Leavenworth, it began as a small town peopled with Bavarian immigrants. Now, alas, it is a tourist trap with Bavarian style facades on the buildings and hosting big overcrowded, and overly expensive festivals like "Oktoberfest." I find it kind of sad.

Sorry, I often ramble. :bigredblu

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (never lived in The City, tho. Too expensive!) California born and raised. And I had a tough time voting "Southwest", because the Bay Area is nothing like the Southwest. VB was right about voting "other".

Mark Twain said "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco," but it's not a joke. The ocean in northern California is cold enough that surfers wear wetsuits. Think fog and redwoods, not hot sun and palm trees.

And right you are.

For everyone that doesn't know this:
There's a continent called Europe. The UK isn't on that continent but it's pretty close. Close enough to geographically belong to it.

Then, there's a political entity called the European Union, where some of the countries in Europe are combining, much like the USA. The UK is part of that union, but as yet doesn't use the common monetary unit, the euro. The UK chooses to keep using the Pound Sterling, for very good reasons. This union sometimes gets called "Europe", much like inhabitants of the USA tend to call their country "America".

Yes, the Mission Inn is definitely beautiful, and very expensive, too! I'm assuming that you visited the Dragon Marsh (aka Walmart for Witches, lol), which is close to the Mission Inn? I enjoy the fact that they carry a huge variety of items that you can't find in too many other pagan shops, however, the salespeople there really bother me. I live in Australia... at the bottom of the equator. :P But Australia still rocks. Most people who live in different countries love Australia, and I can't really say "Yeah, it's great" because I haven't seen anything. I'll tell you something though, Australian politics suck.

I am located too far away from Lost_Sole. There is an ocean between us. I live in the USA.. (MN) and he is living in Germany because of the army. I should get to see him in April though. Which I can't wait for it to come. Its still like 4 months away.. but I will wait for that day to come. :)
