View Full Version : Do you read with all your decks?

I'm hopelessly addicted to tarot cards! I do have *ahem* a few decks, I have my favourite ones for reading and mediations. I find some of them, I love having just for the artwork or this or that. I don't think I would do readings with them but I love them just for the sake of collecting. They just don't call to me any other way. Do you find that with the decks in your collection?

I was thinking of this as I'm going through my latest aquisition...The Herbal Tarot. Usually I'm not a fan of RW decks and the more obvious clones of RW but I bought this one mainly because of it's herbal references. I do like it but haven't decided if this is going to be a "working" or "collection" deck.

While I can readily understand the allure of collecting Tarot decks...some of them are beautiful.

Personally I have several tarot decks...but the only one I have intrest in is my Thoth deck. My other decks are not seeing any reading use of late...and I dont expect that they will honestly. They just dont call to me.

I have about 30 decks.

I read with ONE (Robin Wood) and I teach with another (Rider).

It would impossible to use all the decks unless I wanted to do my daily reading with 'deck of the day'.

Many Tarot decks are beautiful, but worthless, IMHO, so I use the one I like and look at others, but do not feel guilty about not reading with them. I bring them to class to show my students!

I have two decks and I read with them both. :) I use one for mostly meditation, however.

I have five decks right now, and I only read with one of them. The rest I just collected for their artwork over the past few years. They do get some use, as some of my friends will read from them here or there, but other than that they're mostly dust collectors.

I have a few decks I bought just because they were so beautiful, but I don't really read with them. Then I have other decks I read with regularly, and a few I read with occasionally. I really depends on my frame of mind. I usually fall back on either the Aquarian Tarot, or the Robin Wood Tarot..it's sort of autopilot for me with those decks. My Tarot equivalent of comfy jeans and fuzzy slippers if you will. If I really want to dig deep into the heart of the matter, I'll use either Thoth or Voyager. I usually use a deck for 3 or 4 days and then go get another one out and use it for a while. Sometimes I will actually read with 3 or 4 decks in a row. Suprisingly, I'll get almost identical readings with different decks, especially if something big is afoot. The day before 9/11, I got the Tower and Death consistently with no less than 3 decks. It may sound horrible, but I was almost relieved when it was the WTC and not something closer to home. That pretty much convinced me that it wasn't just coincidence at work.

I have two decks, although i have a few in mind that I still want to get. I always use The Londa Tarot for all the readings I do. My girlfriend gave me The Gothic Tarot by Joseph Vargo and its autographed so I never use that deck for readings.

I have three decks and I use two of them (Universal and Robin Wood Tarot,) and the other I find isn't as easy to read (Feng Shui.) I'll probably try reading it again, however... ^^; :sunny:

Are you referring to the Feng Shui deck by Connolly?
I love the deck, but the transition from the more traditional pentacles/swords/cups/wands is a bit difficult. I always want to read the black tortoise as water and the phoenix as fire instead of the other way around. Once you get past the difference in symbology though it is a really nice deck and I love the art work....

I have four tarot decks (Legend, Fey, Hanson-Roberts, and Nigel Jackson) and the Faerie Oracle deck. I use them all but not the same amount. The Nigel Jackson is gorgeous (I haven't had it very long) but I have small hands and the cards are pretty big. I use Legend for any love readings I do and also if I'm trying to connect with my British Isles side, lol. Hanson-Roberts is for studying and when I need the more traditional symbolism and Fey is my 'comfort' deck. The Faerie Oracle I use when more for meditation, though I also use it for readings when I need a kick in the pants or something. :D

I have 15 decks, and have used 3 for reading (Barbara Walker, Rohrig, and Thoth, Thoth being the dominant deck). Most of the other decks I have obtained have been for study, like historical reprints or those decks that fit best with my personal work with the tarot. Here or there I've been a sucker for a deck that has artwork that I enjoy, but for myself, it's been a more nerdy approach then anything else.

I do think that even though one may not be actively reading from a particular deck, just shifting through it and enjoying it, that it opens the mind to that deck's particular symbolism, imagery, etc. When thoughts and feelings are evoked - on some level, isn't one "reading" even if they aren't throwing a spread? Just rambling on now...

I have three decks. Thoth Deck, Elemental Deck, and Shapeshifter Deck. I usaully only read with the Shapeshifter Deck but occansionally I use the Thoth Deck. Depends on the type of reading and question. All the decks read differently. Right now I'm partial to the one deck though.

I have three decks, and read with them all (but not usually all at once!) :)

I have "I Tarocchi Dei Segreti (The Secret Tarots)" illustrated by Marco Nizzoli, which I absolutely ADORE. It's my general purpose deck. I love the comic book look of the characters (I collect some comics).
I also have The Celtic Widsom Tarot, which I use when I have deep-life-altering queries. It's the first deck I bought, and so I know it the best.
I also have The Enchanted Tarot, which I call my "cute and fluffy bunny" tarot because I feel it gives everything a gentler view. (Which is a joke, for anyone who has seen the movie "One Crazy Summer.")

I shop around for other decks for fun, but I think I've really settled into the Secret Tarots and haven't bought any since then.

Well, I'm happy to say the Herbal tarot has now been moved to my "working" deck collection! :D

I can't imagine getting rid of any of my decks just because I don't read with them. I love looking through the cards and admiring the artwork. Even though I may not use them now, doesn't mean I won't in the future.

Hi all, i have 4 decks that i read with, because they all suite a different type of person and or a different situation. i give people the option of which deck i read with, i put the 4 decks out in front of them (the cards are wrapped in silk, so the queerant dosen't know which is which) this makes for interesting readings and i find a lot more accurate.

I have three decks right now but I have many on my wish list.. some are just really beautiful and would be nice to have just for collection...
I read with all of my decks... one for others..one for me...one for someone to pick.... I think its good to have several decks for the people I read for to pick and then maybe that would help the reading come out a bit more personal for them... and I also think its good to change what im used to by switching decks every now and then....
