I call on their help and favour. I also believe that they are already there, but I think it is good manners to ask for their help and blessings for what you are doing.
Hope that helps!

Its your Path, its a matter of what you want to do.
Personally, I do ask them for help and guidence, even though I believe they are always there. Like Kiya said, good manners.

In our rituals, we neither "call" nor "dismiss" ~ our gods and guardians are family members who come and go as they please ~ and they will, and they do! :D

What Mariwen said!
Think of it as inviting members of your family. Same with any guardians you may have.
Summoning and dismissing seems rather disrespectful, IMO. :)

What ever feels natural and best for you.... If you feel you should call upon them, do so, if you feel it isn't necessary don't... :)
I think that the god/dess will understand you no matter what you choose... So do what you feel is best! :sunny:

I don't know about "summoning & dismissing" the Deities, spirits, ancestors, etc. Seems only good manners to me to extend the invitation, though, & thank them for their presence at the end.
Remember, there is power in the spoken word. Has to do with vibrational magic.

I invite the Lord & Lady to join me and bless my work if they wish in each circle, as well as the elemental energies, and sometimes even fae folk or spirits. Sure they're always there, but you might invite them to join the fun, especially if they could lend something to your ritual (ie. inviting Athena in a ritual to ground and find wisdom, or Aphrodite to help yourself find love).
As with everything in the Craft, you should do whatever makes you feel best. Think of the Gods and other energies as friends who support you - sure you could slip up, but they're likely to warn you before you slip, help you up after you slipped knowing you had to slip, or laugh with you when you fall down knowing you've learned to be more careful. There's no wrong way to do this stuff!
