African Great Mother
~ Full Moon ~
Mawu of Africa was the Supreme Goddess, the creatress of all things. The god Lisa is often spoken of as her son. It is said that she sent him to Earth to teach humankind useful arts and to watch that they observed her rules. But Mawu is considered a gentle goddess, as seen in the proverb, "Lisa punishes, Mawu forgives." The Fon of Benin in West Africa worship Mawu as Moon goddess.
Place a one-sided mirror face up on the altar between two lighted blue candles. On the mirror set a picture of the person or animal to be healed. If you don't have a picture, at least have a piece of paper with the person's name on it. Lay a crystal on the picture or paper.
With the wand in your power hand, hold it over the mirror, crystal, and picture. Say:
You are cleansed. You are purified.
You are healed. You are whole.
By the powers of the Ancient Healers,
By the great powers of Mawu,
All wrong is made right.
Lay aside the wand. Take up the mirror and picture. Hold the picture so that it faces the reflecting side of the mirror. Say:
The Great Mother Mawu and all the Great Healers see your image as whole and complete again. Look into the mirror of Mawu, (person's name). See yourself as you are seen by the Gentle Mother.
Lay the mirror on the altar with the picture face down upon it. Leave them there overnight. In the morning, bury or burn the picture and cast the ashes to the winds.
