Miscellaneous Stuff We Like to Note

< >In Texas, says Stephan, a fan of the site, there is a city named Granger. "And, believe it or not, the Granger High School mascot is the lion!"

< >Western Australia is home to Fortescue River, while Horse Shoe Bend, Idaho is nearby Potter Creek (thanks guys!). In South Carolina, USA, there is Myrtle Beach.

< >There is a Vernon, California; a Mount Vernon in Vermont & Illinois; a Vernon, Texas & a Granger, Indiana; Minerva, Ohio; a Firenze, Italy; a Flint, Wales; a Flitwick, England; a Dursley, Gloucestershire, England; a Snape, England; a Potter, Ontario, Canada; and a Riddle, Oregon. Sirius Point, Alaska is nearby Kiska Volcano, north of Rat Islands.

< >Channel 10 in Sydney, Australia is home to reporter/anchorman, Harry Potter. There is also Sirius Building in ACT, Australia. On the Sonoma State University campus in Rhonert Park, California, there is a building called Salazar Hall.

Mostly coincidences. You do realize that Rowling's Latin incantations and names, the British English dialect, and the English in the States are related by language family, right? Latin-based Germanics in the Indo-European, I guess.

Vernon and Weasel are the easiest to spot in the dictionary. Salazar? There's a Ken Salazar in the Colorado province. Cornelius is a manufacturer of soda fountains (I know this from fast food). Draco was a ruler. Petunia is a flower. Sickle is an agricultural tool, and the Phoenix wasn't new (no pun intended). Riddle is quite a riddle.

Some are bona-fide copies, though. It's also intersting to note that Alice (That's the name I believe) was an artifically invented name by Disney. That's culture for you.

J.K. Rowling grew up on Privet Drive. ;)

It couldn't have been Alice. The book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
(http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/People/rgs/alice-table.html) was written for a little girl by that name.

Alice in Alice in Wonderland was named after Alice Liddell, a friend of Charles Dodgson (Lewis Caroll). The story goes that mr. Dodgson was an avid photographer and often took pictures of the three daughters of his friend Liddell. The beginnings of the story of Alice in Wonderland was told when they landed in a meadow one summer afternoon on a rowing trip to Godstow during july 4th.

I think that the stree names are really cool, as far as Jk Rowlings books I have noticed how cleaver she has been with names, Such as Siuris is the 'Dog star' and Siuris can trun in to a Dog, and Diagonally is Diagonaly from the other street, and other such names! Like Harry Potter has the same birthday as his creator, That is why I love Harry Potter soo much everything is connected with something else _vb_
