So many Wiccans/Witches talk about having cats as companion animals it seems that the cat is the de facto animal symbol of the Craft. What about those of us who love doggies? I am a mommy to two doggies, a ten-year-old male (intact) longhaired dachshund and a ten-year-old male (fixed) Australian Shepherd. They adopted me a year ago and have helped me get through a major bout of chronic depression by giving me oodles of unconditional lovies when I thought I was utterly unworthy of such. They are my babies! I'm lucky enough to live in a very dog-rich neighborhood with a majority of well-socialized pooches including a beagle escape-artist on our block and two female basset hound puppies on the next.
Can't our doggie friends get some luv too?

I personally have never seen eye-to-eye with cats at all. I've always been way more drawn towards canines. I have a dog who I've had almost all my life (she's 15, I'm 18 :) ) Her name is Honey and she's a corgi-cross. I understand what you mean, totally...I was also depressed at one point and it seemed she was the only being I could rely on not to lose patience with me.
So yeah, let's spread the doggy-love! :D

my cat and i 'tolerate' each other.
but my Aussie (Liebe) and i are soulmates! we go everywhere together, and the relationship is definately two-way. how could you NOT love an animal who's soul purpose in life is to see you smile?
they don't just understand, they care. and i generally respect my dog's judgement more than most people i know. they don't lie, and they aren't taken in by those who do.
cats have adapted to humans, but dogs have joined!

My bf and I saw the cutest thing on one of our walks out. We passed by a house that was having a party on the front porch (due to the warm weather). And in a very small child's wading pool frolicking was a one year old male bulldog named Flash. He ran and jumped into the pool full of water, splashing everyone around and having a great time. He was a big ol' sweetie too!

I'm a mommie to a beeeeuiful 3 year old boxer/border collie mix. She's the light of my (and hubby's) life. We don't have children and she is treated better than we treat ourselves most days. She definately rules the house!! :)
I've had dogs my entire life and wouldn't change it for the world.
I tried my hand at a cat, only to give the poor thing away 5 months later. Hubby's allergies went through the roof with her in the apartment and I was at the end of my rope with the up all night playing and clawing/climbing the mini blinds, etc. I loved her to pieces but I learned quickly that I wasn't a cat person. *shrugs*
Rock on, doggie lovers!! ;)

I have a darling pooch named Harley and he is almost 5 now and I found him on the side of the road when he was about 3 weeks old. He has been my bestest bud for a long time. Here is a pic of a pic of him. It isn't very good but since he is in Nebraska and I am in Virginia it's kinda hard to get a good pic of him.

My wife and I have two dogs. CJ a four year old Shiba Inu and Tippy a Fiveish year old MacNabb. CJ we got as a puppy and is the center of my world. My wife says it’s unhealthy, she thinks that if something happened to CJ that I would probably just cease to exist. She’s probably right. Tippy we got from the pound. She is such a joy. She is so happy to have people after being in the pound. They love each other so much and play all the time. Tippy is the most loyal and obedient dog I have ever seen, she only wants to please. CJ is easily smarter than most people, he is an amazing problem solver and he uses tools. Tools? you say. Yep, boxes as latters, sticks to get things he can’t reach and bait for birds to name a few. He’s a hand full. I could easily write hundreds of cute stories and happenings about them as I’m sure most of you could about your dogs.

I have a wonderful puppy, Harley. Harley thinks she is still a puppy but really she is 8. She is my furry baby girl. A big ol' mush. I thought I had posted a picture of here here but I searched around and couldn't find it, but she looks a bit like Dax, just rounder (read: fat :) )
I also have three cats and the lines between the cats and dog are blurred. We're not sure if the cats think they are dogs, or the dog thinks she is a cat. But we re all one big happy family. :)

I have a Heinz 57 mongrel called George who we got from the dog rescue centre. My mum calls him her 'gypsy theif' as he's a bit of a rascal, loves stealing whole chickens (luckily he hasn't repeated that episode) and he's an escape artist.
He's about 7 or 8 now, still full of mischief and energy, though he's had a few mouth infections the vet can't put their finger on (you can see his dry nose as well that's linked to his poorly mouth). He's adorable, friendly though wholeheartedly opposed to wasps and flying things! His pride of place is usually on the windowsill where he can look outside, where he always manages to compose himself to looking quite regal.
We were told that he was living on the streets for about a month before the rescue centre got him. We imagined him as king of the dump!

I, myself, am probably more of a "cat person" than a "dog person", but in reality, I love animals of all kinds. I have the most wonderful dog, a beautiful 4 y/o border collie cross from the shelter, named Athena (aka Bean Dog) and she is absolutely the owner of my heart. I have a marvelous cat too, named Moxie, and I love him, I do, but Athena is my baby girl.

I just had to get in on this one...I never miss the opportunity to brag about my "kids".
I have two dogs.... Ozy is a cockerspaniel/pitbull cross. He's 5 years old and I've had him since he was 4 weeks, so he thinks he's a person. He's really smart, and can learn a new trick within minutes... his best trick, though, is to sneeze on command. :D
Max is a Rottweiler cross, and he's almost 2 years old (in August). He looks a lot like Dax, but skinnier and he has really long gangly legs...my dad calls him a baby moose. He is also a "dumb blonde"... it took months to teach him how to shake a paw, and there's no real spark of intelligence in his eyes, just puppy glee. He is our baby and the sweetest dog I have every known...he oozes love to everyone he meets.

oh Fear-farsain, George certainly has 'the eyes'!
that's how we found Liebe. i had been without my beloved Karma for almost seven years (she died in my arms :sniffsnif ), but i knew i couldn't get another dog until i saw 'the eyes'. we looked for along time, and finally found Liebe on our 10th anniversary (5 years ago last week).
here's Karma (missing you 'Little Girl'!)...

Everyone's dogs are lovely! Thanks for the compliments, George says he's very honoured! :b
George certainly has 'the eyes', he's never in trouble for very long! :D When we went to the rescue centre, it was horrendous. The conditions were fine but there were so many dogs crying and yapping and barking. George just came over to my Mum, put his head through the bars and into her hands. She fell in love straight away. We knew he was the dog for us!
I'll try and post some more pictures.

i don't mean to horn in on all the doggie lovin' (well, yeah, i do), but i have a cat (loki) who is more like dog...he doesn't have the aloofness and total "i don't really need you" attitude that most cats do...he's my snuggle buddy for sure....
i do love doggies, tho...just not in a position to have one right now...so i'll say a little somethin' somethin' about the doggies that have been in my life....
the first one i can really remember is benji...he was big loveable mut that my dad and i found leapin' through the bushes on the side of the road one day...i spotted a flash of brown and we pulled over, picked him up and that was that...we didn't have him very long thanks to neighbor who took it upon himself to "rid the neighborhood of a noise disturbance" while we were gone on vacation...but my fondest memory of benji is when he protected my brother and i ( about6 and 4 yrs respectively) when our babysitter decided to invite some of his buddies over for some fun...while he was babysitting us....benji was in the back yard, barkin' up a storm while the 'sitter & his buds were eggin' him on...so my bro decided to let them see what happens when someone messed w/ family and let benji off his chain....i didn't think people could actually run that fast....we were very proud :)
i guess dusty would be next....defintely *not* the sharpest pencil in the box, but probably one the most loveable lugheads you could ever meet...he was a lhasa apso, all white and fluffy....his favorite thing was to lay his head on your feet like a pillow...unfortunately, dusty had a stroke a few years back and we had to let him go... :sniffsnif
scruffy...my sweet scruffy...he was the first dog that was really mine....i conned a friend into getting him for me for my birthday....parents were *not* happy...i've never met a smarter mut in my life...and soooo protective of me...my dad couldn't hardly even come in to wake me for school in the morning (which took considerable effort) w/out scruffy getting on the defensive...if my brother was "play fighting" w/me, scruffy jumped in to help me out....unfortunately, he was also as protective of dusty as he was of me and always tagged along as look-out when dusty managed to escape the backyard...sadly, dusty came home one day & scruffy didn't :(
last, but certainly not least (of the ones i can remember) was rambo...oasis black dandies rambo, to be exact...the only purebread, pedigreed pet we ever had...he was a miniature black schnauzer and exceptionally intelligent....it always seemed like he knew exactly what you were saying...and would even talk back...loved - and i mean *loved* - to have his belly rubbed...he also, i hate to say it, loved to raid the cat box...we suspect someone stole him as people had attempted to do so on more than one occasion...black schnuzers are very rare and would have been a excetional sire...except for the fact that the people who gave him to us had him neutered since they also had a purebread maltese female they were breeding at the time...
anyway....didn't intend to write so much, but i did love all my doggies and one day hope to have more...i'm thinkin' somethin' along the lines of an irish wolfhound...we mostly always had small dogs (except for benji), but i like 'em big and scragly-lookin' !

That’s ok your cat can act like a dog, my dog acts like a cat. CJ climes trees, catches bird, stalks, he’s very feline.

I love cats, but since I've developed allergies I can't have them any more. I do have a big "Boo Boo" mutt, his name is MiLo and he's about 95 lbs. and he's a mix of Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Doberman and wolf (but no one is supposed to know about that part of him.... ;) )
And he's one heck of a watchdog to the neighbors, but just a big loverboy at home.... :smooch:

I too am very much a dog person.
I had to leave my ickle spaniel with my parents when I left home 5 years ago :(
Me and hubby are out of the house over 10 hours a day and it would not have been fair to leave him for such long periods at a time, but I get to see him most days still miss him though.
I like cats too but, prefer dogs

I love dogs. I had one when I was little but my dog got sick and died :( After that I had another dog but my father brought lambs to my house (I have a big patio LOL!) He said that my dog was attacking the lambs so they moved her to my father's hardware store. There, she got lost, I never saw her again :( But, I had a pet lamb LOL! After that I had a cat but my father gave it away cause the cat called me every morning at 6:00 and my parents room are next to were the cat was (but my room is in the other side LOL!)

I generally love dogs, but I find cats match my personality better. Dogs that yap and bark all the time drive me nuts, and every dog on my block seems to be this type.
One of my cats is actually very dog-like in some ways. He comes when I call him, is always very lovable and playful and is extremely loyal. I'd put him up against a dog any day.
Some cats have "joined" us too! :D

We have a dog as well, a pitbull names Patches. I am sure there are some pictures on here. I need to take some more, but she is never still. She is supposed to be Mol's dog but she really loves Trey.
We just happen to have more cats so they get the most attention I think.

I'm not allowed to have pets at my house, so I've adopted my mother's puppies... There are some pictures in the members pictures thread. I'll see if I can get new ones up in this thread...

My pets are all back in TN with my parents. Some of them technically belongto the rents, including my year and a half old Gordon Setter, Jack, who I miss daily.
Sadly, I'm currently living with people who are poster examples of people who shouldn't be pet owners - a combination of spoiling, not training, and neglect. It's really making me depressed and upset. They are expecting a baby the end of Feb. It bodes badly.
