I am SO freaked out.

I just tried to get changed...when I lifted my trousers up to put them on, I discovered there was a HUGE spider in them!!! Argh!

I threw my trousers in the bin. *blushes* Am I possibly being a little overdramatic?

Ok...must...calm down...*waits for breathing to return to normal* :(

i would have burned them myself.... *eeeeeeeek*

By bin, do you mean garbage or dirty clothes? Overdramatic? I think not!!! I am so deathly afraid of spiders, if I see one in my house I don't sleep until it is no longer in my house! I probably would have thrown the pants out of the house, put on shoes and jumped up and down on them and then thrown them away... in the OUTSIDE garbage! hahaha

Iris

I threw them in the garbage inside the house...I'm gonna get my dad to throw 'em out later. Aaahhh it was so horrible, I just picked up my trousers and it was crawling round inside them *shudders*

The thing is...I really liked those trousers!

Stupid arachnaphobia.

EDIT: Sorry, I know this thread was kinda pointless. But I was just so freaked out I had to tell someone...:(

Where I come from it is supposed to mean that you are going to get a present if you find a spider in/on your belongings. It only works if you dont kill the spider... you are supposed to somehow catch it and release it outside.

I LOVE presents, but there are limits. Wouldn't want a spider in my pants...

WillowSageheart
July 6th, 2003, 05:14 PM
Uuum... I have enough stuff. I think I'd rather forego presents for the rest of my life! The spider will die! haha

Chanda

Don't trow the trousers away!!! Just get your dad to check the spider is gone and then get them dry cleaned or washed or something...

And the thread is not pointless, I lived with a girl that suffered from arachnophobia. I remember how much trouble she had with it...

My wife would have taken ALL the clothes in our room and washed, twice!
Then she would have me go in the room and chase down the spider and get rid of it any way possible. I know it's a real fear for some, and that's ok. But don't make me chase it out the room. I am not the exterminator :geez:

I love spiders. (Sorry!) They keep the insects out of my house and away from my plants.

Visited an oceanographic museum last weekend in Valencia, Spain. Saw the Giant Spider Crab. Both awful and awe-inspiring. Talk about spiders a feet high!

I'm going to have nightmares about giant spiders hugging the ceiling all week, I just know it. That's the only part about spiders I don't like, the nightmares.

OMG! I might have nightmares now! Made me think of a show I saw on Outer Limits or Twilight Zone or something like that anyway. It was about a nice looking guy that was really rude to a slightly unattractive girl that liked him. He found a spider in the sink and washed it down, a few minutes later a bigger one comes out and he washes that down, and each time a bigger and bigger spider came out until there was a huge one that killed him. Turned out the girl was a witch that had cast a spell on him.

Gotta love that hollywood mentality! :) But that show gave me nightmares for weeks!

One good thing about Florida, we don't have to rely on spiders (and we have some BIG ones!) we have cute little lizards. I try to lure in as many as I can. They are wonderful for bug control... and they eat the small spiders too! YAY!

Let me tell you a story about a killer spider. This happened while the MW chat room was still operating.

One nite, after chatting with Mithrea and a fellow named Paygun, I was ready to go to bed. When out of the corner of my eye I see the HUGEST spider I've ever seen. I freaked!!! I jumped up on the chair, bending over to *shout* in the chat room that I was being attacked. Mithrea and Paygun proceeded to crack up laughing. I however, am not amused. I couldn't go to bed till it was DEAD. So, jumping from my computer chair...to the recliner...to my laundry room (yes I have a small house). I grab me trust SWIFTER mop and jump back and proceed to smash the living you know what out of the intruder. It was gonna kill me I swear!!! ;)

So, when you say you tossed your pants...I don't blame ya...HATE HATE spiders.

I use canned air to kill the bugs in my house. Shake it up, and make sure it is on freeze mode... and then stomp the heck out of it with a rock once it can't jump on me. Yep, got rocks stashed all over the house for this. Remember I live in Arizona, the aracinids here can kill you if you are allergic. I wish I could attract the little lizards we have, they are soooo wonderful, and colorful and they eat the roaches. Some have blue tails and such. I froze, killed and flushed a 3 inch cockroach on my door step this morning... ewwweeeeuuuuu. Hate those things. Ick Ick.

Update on the spider-in-the-pants situation:

I whined at my dad and he shook out my pants for me. Now they are wearable again.

Fortunately the bin was a brand-new bin we just bought that day, and had nothing else in it so they stayed fairly clean. :)

Later on when I was watching TV I saw an even HUGER one crawl out from behind the TV and run across the room! Is it spider season or something?!

That reminds me of a story of my own...

I was running a bath, and remembered I had some laundry I needed to do, so I wrapped myself in a towel and headed off to my room. I still had long hair at the time, and had it down, so it was draped over my shoulders, and while in my room, I felt it tickle me, so I went to brush it away and this HUGE wolf spider just sitting on my shoulder like a bloody parrot! Needless to say, I shrieked and threw the thing off of me. But even when I saw it on the ground, part of me wasn't convinced that it wasn't still touching me, so I continued to scratch and claw at myself as I ran into the living room in my towel shrieking for someone to kill it. I had scratches for a week.

This same sort of thing happened to me about two weeks ago. I was cleaning my room when I felt my hair brush against my throat, so I brushed it off and it fell to the floor. That's when I realized it was another humongous spider. I repeated the exercise: stop, shriek, run, claw.

Hmm... this seems to be a pattern.

Eeeeeeek! I don't know what it is about spiders!! I accidently drank a big fat black, hairy, scary one, and instinctively i knew there was something evil in my mouth the moment i felt something other than water touch my tongue! Out went the water (and the spider!) and i promptly jumped onto the sofa and danced about shreiking! Everyone else in the room thought i'd gone crazy.....ack i can feel creepy things on me now!!!!!

OMG!!! S thread about spiders!!! I hate spiders. I am kind of aracnophobic but not extremely. I can see a spider. I can be near a small normal spider. But, in the moment I notice the spider is looking at me a freak out LOL! :rotfl: Specially if it lifts its front legs

I have stories, mostly about trying to figure out what it was I crushed. I lived in a few insect bad areas, so I react very very quickly to any unauthorized movements. Anything very small and moving fast or slow gets smashed fast. Then, based on what ever the crushed evidence left is... I try to figure out what it was. Lots of times it is a complete mystery. And I am happy with that.

I had a fun one a few years ago. I was moving and making several trips between the old place and the new one, taking a load of furniture with me each time.

Well, there I was driving along a busy major street, talking to a friend who was helping me... I felt/saw something/movement from above (the ceiling?) moving down, but it was too close to my eyes for me to focus on. It brushed my lower lip on the way down.

Sooo... I looked down - to see a spider roughly the size of Rhode Island sitting cheekily upon my bosom! I swear it was looking at me...

I'm afraid that I scared the hell out of my friend - I don't think he's used to being in a car and having the driver suddenly start shrieking and swatting at herself. :o

But I'm very proud of myself, I was on a busy street and not only did I NOT get into a wreck, I didn't even swerve out of my lane. :D

While I am not necessarily afraid of them, I don't like them. I used to try to divert them outside, but lately I have been killing them. The other night at work I took care of a little 8 year old boy with cellulitis on his leg from a spider bite. His entire leg was all red and yucky and they had to cut his leg open to drain the infection. Bad news them spiders.

My mom is so scared of spiders she calls me into either remove them or to kill them. She has even called me totally freaked out when I lived half way across the country :geez: (1300 odd miles away) to come and get rid of the spider. She was joking...Kinda!

I agree! While arachnaphobia is far more popular, I LOVE spiders. :) I think they're very cool. I saw a black widow on July 4th and was thrilled to pieces. I didn't tell anyone until after we left the park... I didn't want them to kill it. :-/

LOL! I wish it was that easy for me. I tend to investigate before I kill it... just to make sure it's something that has the possibility of hurting me. Then it dies.

I don't mind spiders, really. In fact, they're fascinating creatures, and I like observing them...when they're outside where it is easier for me to run far, far away if need be! However, when they come into my house or TOUCH ME... they die.

I response to the original post about 3 weeks ago as I was getting into bed a nasty bug was creeping across my pillow!!! I screamed out and now every night before I go to sleep I check my pillow, I don't think you was over-dramatic with your trousers its the sort of thing I would do

I only kill when they are in my house. If they stay outside... I am just a visitor. I see_ therefore I run. But the smashing success I have indoors is from a few years of being damned ill due to a bug bite. Never again if I can help it.

Aww, while they make me go all silly....i wouldn't ever kill one! i'm sure a spider would'na squish me just cos he was afraid me!

Besides....they're to scary to go near to kill anyway.....blaaaaeuw (my "gee isn't that scary" noise!
