Have any of you seen that movie? I was watching with the kids and thought that the last segment kind of related to a Pagan theme. If you haven't seen it, an elk(Horned God) comes to a frozen pond and beathes on an icicle. Form the icicle come a beautiful wood nymph? Sprite? Not sure exactly what to call her, but to me she represents Mother Earth. She brings growth and beauty to the land. A volcano erupts and buns and destroys the landscape. When she cries, her tears renew the Earth to its glory again.
Ok, maybe I am crazy, but hey...I'm harmless :D 8O :D

Definetly! That's what I thought the first time I saw it! (I'm 16, but cartoons will never be boring for me! :) ) So if the stag is the God and the nymph lady is the Goddess, who's the volcano dude (volcano dude- technical term)? HMMMM......

I also thought the same when I saw it. I was watching the Cartoon Network this weekend and Scooby Doo and the Witches Ghost was on. Now that is definately about Wiccans. I feel that it portrays Wicca in a good way. I am 24 yrs old and even though I have a 2 year old, I was the one watching the cartoons.

yeah, definatly. It's done really well though, you must say. All disney movies are great, even if they do sugar coat {okay, with sugar cane, the pure stuff} endings.

For anyone who has Cable access, I do believe "Johnny Bravo" on Cartoon Network is a Pagan... His only expletive is; "Mamma!" and he means it whenever he says it. Is that calling on The Lady, or not! :p
And, have you seen Shrek yet? Now THERE's a very aware and Pagan movie! Don Bluth really hate the Evil Disney Empire, and he pulls out all the stops in this one. Plus, the Princess just keeps getting prettier and prettier. I really enjoyed it.
My big problem with Disney... well.. Hmm. ONE of my big problems with Disney is the way Eisner has glamorized some very deep and dark myhs, and removed the subtleties from them that made them myths in the first place. He's replaced the nuances that take time and study to discover- which is what makes the story so deathless- with cultural references that are no-brainers to get, and allow everyone to feel like they are "in the know" Wel, that's what popular entertainment is all about, after all. But the story of Hercules has been COMPLETLEY rplaced by Disney's version, featuring The Supremes, Neurotic Hades, and Pegasus as a toadying sidekick. (Why the horse?) Not to mention the fact that all American children now know that Pocahontas had a love affair with John Smith... Sheesh! Do they know that she died of Influenza, back in Dear old England? No, The writers were instructed to ignore that detail, because it didn't fit in with the happy ending!
umm... I see that I am ranting here... sorry guys.. Getting off the soapbox now...

When I first saw Disney's Cinderella as a child I was very upset by it and was yelling in the theater that it wasn't Cinderella. I had heard the old Grimms Version growing up. I now collect fairy tales and prefere the old ones. They were ment to teach a moral and not just tell a story. Disney teaches nothing. There is no moral there is no learning experience they are just sweet stories and pieces of fluff that mean nothing but are very nicely done.

Well, we all know Walt Disney had the evil gene.
According to Dr. Hibbert, "...the evil gene. Hitler had it; Walt disney had it...He-He-He."

I was under the impression the first Fantasia lent itself to Pagan themes - pegasus, faeries, oh my!
I seem to remember one in particular with a lot of drunken wine drinkers - Bacchus anyone?
Haven't seen the second one yet :)
