Well see, we've got a cat. And he is spoiled rotten! Today I was walking towards the stairs, he saw me and went half-way up. So I looked and said "what?" , he continued up the steps to the top. I was going up to take a shower so he was now "leading" me to the bathroom. We keep his brush in the med cabinet. So he jumped on the sink and reached up to the cabinet. So I took the brush out and sat down to get rid of the excess fur. After I was done brushing this nice little kitty, he wasn't ready to be done. So he jumped at my hand, pulled it down with his claws and bit me!! Really hard! Luckily he didn't break the skin, but it hurt! Oh I know boo-hoo right. He wasn't done, as I put the brush away and he bit me again. That time I yelled.:geez:

Does this happen to anybody else? :)

I'm not mad at the kitty, just wondering why he does this.

Heh..he's not trying to hurt you. That is what John and I call a love bite. It's your attention he is seeking. I'm sure that if you had put the brush down, but continued to pet him, he wouldn't have bitten. Our cats often "snag" us with their claws if we pass them bye without stopping to pet them. And my cat Winter does the same thing (Pulling hand down, biting a bit) when we stop petting him before he's "Done with us". Just to let us know he loves what we're doing, it feels good, and not to stop. It's an instinct. Male cats, when mating with a female, will bite on her neck to keep her submissive to them. The same idea. "Hey..it feels good..don't you go running off on me!".

What do you mean "in training"? I've had cats before and never been bitten. :)

Yeah but every Cat has its own service criteria for its human.

Avon has been trying to train me to sleep on my back for the past couple of years and hasn't been successful. I know it frustrates him.

LOL...in training is right :) My littlest will climb up on my bed, and if I am sleeping longer than she thinks I ought to, she'll slap me in the face with her paw (no claws out). If she wants to cuddle under the blankets with me, she'll tickle me until I awaken (runs her lips and whiskers along my arm very lightly). If Terra happens to be in bed with us, sleeping between our legs, and get's jostled once too often, he will bite our ankles, or legs. If he's sleeping up near our heads, and we hit him accidentally while rolling over, he'll bite us then too. In short, since they cannot exactly TELL you what they want/need/demand, they just have to SHOW you. And in my experience, they'll stop at very little to do so :)
My little one has a whole series of demands and expectations we must meet. The first, is that when we come back to the house, after being out, we must pick her up and cuddle her right away, or else, if we try to walk away without picking her up, she'll race in front of us and crash into our ankles a few times, nearly tripping us. If it's bed time, she's sure to let us know that too. She comes into the office while I'm on the computer late at night, and puts her front paws up on the chair I sit in, and meows. If i just casually pet her, but don't really pay attention, she'll jump up on the desk, and sit right in front of the screen. If I try to push her out of the way, she meows in complaint. Then, she'll jump down, race over toward the bedroom, and stop half way there, and start meowing again, LOUDLY now, and rubbing against things close to the bedroom. As soon as I move toward her, she runs even closer to the bedroom. And It's clear by then, that she is saying..."Mom, it's time for bed. No arguments...comeon..let's go cuddle".

Don’t have a cat but my dog CJ will do that. He will use his mouth, the only hands he has, and bite me all the time to protest or suggest. They don’t mean to hurt but silly us for not having that protective fur covered skin that make biting ok for animals.

When our basset Tessa wants your attention when you're doing work at the table, she will come over, hop up on her cedar chest and "pet" you with her paw over & over, whining and wiggling back and forth til ultimately, she falls off the chest, then one must go comfort her lol.

A few months ago, we ended up putting a lock on the biscuit bin, because we discovered that both Tessa and Custard could hop up on a box near them and push the bin open with their noses, helping themselves as many biscuits as they wanted, since (naturally) we humans were not giving them enough lol.

Mom's cat, Tigger, will "tell" you what he wants - if he sits at the end of the dishwasher and pokes his paw in the air, he wants a fishy treat (which are located on top of the fridge), if he sits on the floor next to the fridge in the morning, he wants a bit of milk.

I guess the humans in our house are pretty well trained lol.

That is exactly what I meant by In Training! We have 2 cats and a Bird. Patches is training us to pet her the way she wants to, if we don't she bites. If she is out of food she will meow and lead you to the bowl. If you don't IMMEDIATELY fill it, she will try to trip you. Max, the other cat will knock things off the counter when he wants outside and you are not tending to him. Bowls, glasses, he dosen't care. Charlie, my Tiel will get pi**ed and bite me if I do not preen her in just the right way.

I really think animals ***let*** us think we have trained them.

uhm...Floyd invariably cannot resist a fanny..if you bend over near him you can count on getting a backside full of claws (and teeth if he's feeling frisky)..and Chatterbox bites the backs of my legs if I walk past her and don't stop to pay her the proper amount of attention....Peanut is the worse, he likes to rub noses, but invariably it turns into a love bite to the tip of the nose. And we won't go into what Bastian does to toes....just that it isn't a pleasant way to wake up at 5 am....(OUCH!!)
