We've been adopted by a skunk,my husband thinks it is a whole family of them, who sometimes visit us. The house is one we're remodeling, and we don't live there yet.

What do skunks signify?

Skunk - Self-respect.When we fully accept who we are and learn to express the essence of ourselves, without ego, we attract those who share our path and repel those who don't. Skunk medicine is the original "Walk your talk."

Skunk's Wisdom Includes: Understanding how to "walk your talk", Reputation, Sensuality, Understanding energy flows, Self-respect, Courage, Will-power, Self-confidence.

just some stuff i found online, i was going to cut and paste more, but kept finding the same thing on different websites.

"walk your talk" is a big saying of my husband's. One night, the skunk came up to him while he was on the deck and rubbed against his leg like a cat!!!

Thanks, Indigo Rain.

Skunks are inclined to be friendly, but dislike dogs so watch it if dogs are around them. (get up wind okay?) They also can carry rabies so if their behaviour is odd, call for help at the local animal control and get away from them.

I used to have a skunk escort me home each nite from work at 2 am for about 6 blocks all summer. The skunk and I had a very nice understanding. He kept the drunks away and I keep giving him lots of space. :D We parted ways at the corner in front of my house, and he continued on up to the next really good meal spot.

Oh you are so lucky, how wonderful to have askunk living with you. When I lived in rural Kansas, I had a skunk who came to live with me. They bring self respect and feelings of self worth. How totally awsome for you and your husband.

I was living outside Isla Vista, Ca in the Spring of 1976. Each day as I walked into town I would pass a skunk going back out to the woods, and each night as I was going back to my spot in the woods, I would pass the skunk heading into town. After about a week, I would sit down on the path & the skunk would sit with me for silent conversation.

One morning a dog charged up the path while the skunk & I were sitting together. The skunk ran around me & got between me & the dog, and then the skunk sprayed the dog real good. hehehe

A few weeks later, I was reading at my spot in the woods, when the skunk walked by with his wife, & a litter of kits, showing off his family. It was like they were having a conversation. "Now that is what a human looks like. He is one of the good ones, but you kits stay away from all the others..." The kits were giving me shy, but wondering looks.

hmmm..there is one other possiblity. The skunk may be one that had been kept as a pet for a while and then turned back loose. They are very quirky little animals, and fascinating..and yep! skunk medicine is all about self-confidence and not taking any nonsense off of anyone.......
