View Full Version : Your Dream Girl - a Poll For the Boys
Ben Trismegistus
July 16th, 2003, 12:33 PM
Flora Cove just wondered aloud in the Dream Guy thread how cheerleaders would fare in a similar poll for the guys.
So let's see -- Guys (lesbians and bisexual gals can vote too), what's your "type"?
(Disclaimer: This, like the Dream Guy thread, is a completely shallow discussion and meant purely for amusement. We all realize that the best real women are combinations of some or all of these aspects.)

Angelina Jolie. Charlize Theron is lovely too but doesn't have the attitude and kickass'ness and kookiness Jolie has.

Um, this is incredibly weird. I was in the middle of writing this thread when I realized it was lunchtime. I had finished the post itself, and was working on the poll. I left the poll editor open on my computer when I went to lunch. It's still open.
I never posted the thread. Weird huh?
Anyway, I'm working on one with an actual poll. Coming right up.

I am married to my dream girl.
Seriously...
I will admit that other women are nice to look at, none of them hold any real intrest for me. I guess even after being married for 10 years I am still just head over heels in love withmy wife.

I noticed that before when I responded to a thread before someone did the poll for it.

Ah I see what happens. When I finished the post itself, it uploaded to the forum. Then the poll editor adds the poll when I'm done.
So, here's the poll - VOTE!

I see how you are...though I cant argue with ya. =) Guess you have to count me in as agreeing.
Actually I posted before the poll went up so lets see...if I had to pick from your list here. I have to say give me the librarian. I have always liked smart women. I may like to look at the cheerleader type...I very quickly grow bored when there is no brain there. Give me a woman I can argue with, learn from and will challenge me any day. =)

Absolutely. And actually, my wife considered a career as a librarian for awhile, before she realized that librarians don't get paid a living wage. ;)
And you're totally right about Humor -- there's nothing more important.
Of course, for the "librarian" archetype, I was thinking more along the lines of the "naughty librarian" type -- watch out when the glasses come off and the hair comes down! :heybaby:

Weedles her way into the thread....not being actively bisexual (although still being able to know what is attractive to me) I would have voted a cross between the Librarian, and the earth mother. I don't necessarily think of her in terms of wearing a floral dress, but..I do generally find women who are nature oriented and aware, while having a great mind, and wearing "secretary glasses" to be fairly attractive. If I WERE a lesbian, or bi, that would be my type. I really can't describe her as well as I know her, if that makes sense. But..back when I was in college, there was this girl who totally fit this description. Half way between a hippy, and a librarian. Easily adapting to either roll. We were very close friends, and I often thought to myself..."If we weren't both straight, and if we weren't both born again christians"(which we were at the time) "I could easily see myself falling in love with her" She was that wonderful...that sexy. What I think it was instead, was a kind of "I wish I could be her" type deal :) She was kinda like...my idol. Everything I wanted to be :)
Anyway...Ben, as for the "Model" choice...I have to argue with the "Unattainable" part of it, to be honest. Though alot of us women LOVE to throw that into arguments. I'm letting you guys in on a secret here, and I hope I don't get lynched for it ...heh. But...working with models on a regular basis, i've just got to be honest here. Half of them are not NEAR as unattainable as you think. They aren't BORN models in most cases. Someone discovered them along the way..thought they had potential..slapped a bunch of fashion clothes, make up, hairstyles, etc onto them..and bam..there you have it...a Model. And many of them, are actually very normal girls...who are doing this as a way to make money. Just like any other job. In fact, it's often a sad fact, that models wind up alone, or in crappy relationships, either because their prospective boyfriends cannot deal with their jealousy, or the fact that in many cases, the model makes more in one day, than they do in a week. Or, because they have to travel so often. OR because men THINK they are unattainable, so are terrified of approaching them. Alot of times, men who DO approach them, treat them more like an ornament, or something to conquer and own, rather than a mate. So..alot of these girls are just like any other woman out there...looking for a good guy. I think their beauty, and their job itsself..having to be so beautiful all the time, so "outgoing" actually leaves them open to finding jerks even more often than us more "average" girls.
The ones who ARE unattainable, are often that way because they've become jaded, and hard. Suffered so many emotional blows, that they either stop caring, figure "If I can't beat em..I'll join em.". or build up a wall to make it SEEM like they've stopped caring. The ones who are naturally snobby, and naturally "unattainable" are quite rare in my experience :)
Incidentally, I know a couple good models, who really want to meet a nice guy :) hint hint :)
Ben Trismegistus
July 16th, 2003, 05:25 PM
Well, that's what I meant -- the type of women that men think are way above them, or "unattainable". Obviously no one is technically unattainable.
But the thing about the model "type" is that part of what makes it attractive is the perceived unattainability.
Danustouch
July 16th, 2003, 05:41 PM
:) Sometimes I wonder if men think they are unattainable, because us average women have tried long and hard to make men THINK they are unattainable, because of the whole competition factor. Believe me, there have been plenty enough times that I have used that in arguments with John..."You know...you think these chicks are so wonderful...but they are so fake, yadda yadda, they probably think they are gods gift to men..yadda yadda". I know..NOT fair play...but.. It's really a difficult thing sometimes, to compare with the "Traditional" ideal of beauty in society...so we try to pull some punches.....
Working with models has been a HUGE education process for me. I've met some really great girls, who are absolutely stunning, as well as very nice. And it's been REALLY difficult to dislike them. On the other hand, I've also met my share of the "Jaded" ones, too..which isn't so hard to dislike. If I could paint them all with one brush, it would make my life SO much easier..lol.
By the way, continuing with the "Being a traitor" thing that I'm doing here..heh... we do "Bio's" on all of our models, and two of the questions we ask in these bio's, are "Turn On's" and "Turn Offs". You'd be surprised at some of the answers. Amongst Turn Ons, you'll find
Confidence,
Sense of Humor
Intelligence
Cleanliness
Nice Smile/Nice Teeth
Strength
Looks nice in Jeans and Workboots
Nice abs
Strong Shoulders.
Romantic
and amongst turn offs, you'll find
Bad Breath
Cocky Attitude
Mama's Boys
Vanity
Sloppiness
Selfishness
Stupidity
Smoking
Nasty Language.
Lying
Racism.
So ...... as you see....most of the qualities you will find these women look for, or veer away from in men, are qualities that I think are pretty attainable.
So..you guys who are nervous about approaching a beautiful woman.....DONT BE! :) You may be just the guy she's looking for..

My taste doesn't fit into any of these. :/
I like a girl who is smart, but not a genius. She has to be humble, but self-assured. Physically breathtaking, but she doesn't see it... She can make me feel important and needed. When she needs to, she can make me feel guilty but doesn't like to. She tries to help me even when she can't and even when she has bigger problems. She is always there to listen... She has to have an open mind, but decided opinions on big things. She needs to understand my emotions and be gentle. She must NOT make jokes when I'm trying to be serious... I hate that. She needs to keep her promises. She can't be self-hating or self-deprivating... but she needs to be able to see her personality flaws objectively. She can be domestic if she wants to be, but she'd rather be in the working world. She can't be happy just being my girlfriend/wife... she needs to be herself and and individual. She needs to have clear career goals. Faith, hope, and love. Those are MUSTS.
The biggest turn off? Girls who think that guys should be the ones to do all the work, self-improvement, and initiation in the relationship.
Turn on? When she treats me as her equal or is dominating... but in the sense that she takes initiative and doesn't want for me to do everything. I'm very passive, so passive girls go no where with me.
Mmm... dominatrix. ;)
...believe it or not, I've found the girl listed above. :)

Um. Ok, whatever you say. So as long as you look good in jeans and workboots, and have nice abs and strong shoulders, don't be intimidated by beautiful women!
Ummm..but you also missed the other things, which were mentioned, apparently. Or just decided to axe them out. We all have physical qualities which attract us to another person. That stuff is the extraneous detail of life, in a person who is well rounded, and deep. I may like a guy with beautiful sparkling eyes. But..if I met a man who had cataracts over his eyes, and I loved who he was inside, it wouldn't matter. These models are listing their "turn ons". Some of which are physical. Just as you, or anyone else might have physical turn ONS. But..they also related personality traits they look for..which ARE attainable to most, if not all people. And the "Work Boot and Jeans " or "Strong Shoulders" aren't as...concrete a physical feature as say.."Double D Boobs" or "Size 2 pants" that i've heard many men quote as their "Turn Ons".
Look, my only point here, was that Models, just because they are beautiful, are not unattainable. Not every Model is looking for some GQ guy to have on her arm. Most Models, are just like any other woman. Sure, they have specific turn ons, physically, as well as emotionally. That is human nature. But..they aren't as unattainable as some men might think. He doesn't have to be Daddy Warbucks, or Brad Pitt to win their hearts.
(incidentally, the jeans and workboots one when explored, was actually about that. They like guys who look "hard working" not a guy who is afraid to get dirt under his fingernails. Etc.)

WHAT?! NO AMAZONS? I just looooove amazons... The real ones, mind you. The ones who actually know how to fight, not just run around looking silly in outrageous costumes. Chicks in chainmail, mmmmm - mm.
No tavern wnches, either? A nice round, bouncy, flouncy, buxom tavern wench with a smirk on her lips and a naughty gleam in her eye.
I suppose I'd go with girl next door, with cowgirl coming in second. Brainless bimbos are totally unacceptable. Goth is okay, but it's one of those things that's very easy to overdo. High powered types don't do it for me
"I am woman! Here me roar!"
"I am man. Watch me sit."
However, when it comes to women I can go a lot of different ways. I have varied tastes.
TheTempestuous1

Even though I technically consider myself to be straight, I do find women to be a turn on. I'd have to say my type would be the voluptuous women who loves her curves, smolders with sexuality, and has the sort of bad girl come hither attitude, mixed with wry wit, intelligence and the ability to speak freely and with assurance about any subject.
Has anyone here ever had a person of the same sex come on to them (and you are straight)? It happened to me once while on foreign exchange, and while not really into taking her up on the flirting, it was kind of flattering/sexy at the same time. I think a lot of times women just have that vibe about them that can be sexy no matter what your orientation. Especially in a society like ours where women are so hit in the face by the out there sexuality of our own gender i.e. in magazines etc. They become our beauty standards and in wanting to be "Sexy" like them, a lot of times we end up appreciating their beauty in more than just the ascetical sense. We lust after their beauty wanting it to be more our own. Hard to explain.. comments?

I call myself straight, but that's mainly because if I didn't I'd be looked at as disgusting and lose the respect of both my family and (most) friends. But anyway. I would be bisexual, because I think that who I fall in love with is, well, who I fall in love with. If we're taught to not discriminate against religion or race, why against gender?
My vote is for the "cowgirl". Being a Texan, I really envy the personality of the more of the "Western" acting people, and they have a lot of traits of what I would look for in a person. :)
TheTempestous1: That is a good way to explain one reasoning for it, and I agree that could easily happen. In society we try to "fit in", and therefore observe our gender to have a standard to live up to; and in the process I don't think it's unnatural or unheard of at all for a person to be attracted in, well, a love kind of way.

Yeah, I think that is the "double standard" I'd guess you'd call it with most people. With guys, it kinda freaks you out to have a man come on to you, but with girls it's a different story a lot of times. For instance, if you ask a lot of people "is it a turn on for you to think of girls together etc.?" more of both sexes will answer yes, but if it's two guys it tends to be more like "eww" or "that makes me uncomfortable." (Not that I'm saying it's bad for you to be a bit grossed out, to each their own. I just think it's interesting from an anthropological viewpoint.)

guys are so immature sometimes, most guys i have found when they find another guy is gay automatically thinks just because he is a guy that they are gonna try and kiss them or hit on them:rolleyes:
guys also tend to be afraid to be percieved as gay so they never openly admit that a guy they see is attractive, woman can do this because we have more open minds, we know a hottie when we see one ;) that doesnt mean we are into girls
ps. i am not saying ALL guys are like that, just ones that i happen to run into ;)

That's not just a guy thing. Way back when I was still in school one of my best friends came out as being bi-sexual and a girl in my class asked if I was scared to walk home with her incase she hit on me. She used to freak out if they were even in the same room together, coz she thought she'd try and kiss her...

I'd vote for Angelina Jolie;
I mean, she's just awesome - she's got the bad girl down pat, but has a bit of maternal aura when you see her with her son. She's not completely b*tchy, and she's got so much going for her; a wonderful actress, who's done a variety of roles (I loved her in Girl, Interrupted). Not to mention Angelina is drop dead gorgeous.

I used to think two women together would turn me on, but when I actually saw it it didn't do a thing for me.

guys are so immature sometimes, most guys i have found when they find another guy is gay automatically thinks just because he is a guy that they are gonna try and kiss them or hit on them:rolleyes:
guys also tend to be afraid to be percieved as gay so they never openly admit that a guy they see is attractive, woman can do this because we have more open minds, we know a hottie when we see one ;) that doesnt mean we are into girls
ps. i am not saying ALL guys are like that, just ones that i happen to run into ;)
Well, I was never worried about being hit on. I've had a few co-workers who were gay, and I was cool with it. I'm straqight and they were cool with it. I don't go around assaulting women, so I never saw why gay men would go around assaulting straight men. The reason I never say a guy is attractive is because I honestly don't see it. Of all the male celebreties that are held up as sex symbols, I honestly don't see what the deal is with most of them.

Why? **Shrugs** He was just trying to pay you a compliment. :)
Yeah, I know, which is why I kept a polite face on it. I think we even joked about it a bit (this was a few years ago), but there was still that part of me that kind of shuddered at the thought. Why did it creep me out? I don't know. I can't really think of a straightforward logical answer to that. It's just one of those things that, in my opinion, simply isn't done. I've got no moral or philisophical objections to homosexuality. If my son comes to me one day and says he's gay, it would be one hell of a huge adjustment, but it's an adjustment I'm confident I could make because he's my son and I love him. However, I do not want to join the club and I don't care to see it blatantly displayed. Just one of my little quirks, I guess. I don't know why it makes me uncomfortable. It just does.

**Nods** Maybe it's a PDA thing. . ? I guess if you'd have trouble with a girl telling you that you have a nice arse in a public place, I could understand. And granted, I've had a bit of opportunity to accustom myself to it, via friends who were gay, who thought I was attractive and told me. I'll admit, it's awkward, because obviously I had no interest in them. :) But the couple times it's happened, they weren't telling me because they were hitting on me--they were telling me because it was just how they felt.
I used to think two women together would turn me on, but when I actually saw it it didn't do a thing for me.
Heh, it's actually quite a turn-on for me - though I'll admit, I'd get the skeeves if I saw two guys doing it. I imagine that's simply because I'm attracted to women, whereas I'm not attracted to men.

About the only time I find a woman telling me that disturbing is if she's my student. Right now I teach at a community college and any flirting they may have done was very light-hearted and harmless. Of course, I have to put forth monumental effort not to flirt back. However, when I taught high school I had a student flat out tell me she liked my arse. I get nervous when the chick hasn't reached the age of consent. Also, you can imagine what happens to male teachers if they are even vaguely suspected of casting a covetous eye at a student. Guilty until proven innocent, and perhaps not even then...
Other than that situation (or if my wife is present ;) ), she can flirt with me all she wants, short of physical assault! If I were single it would be virtually impossible for a woman to sexually harass me :)

Hard to explain.. comments?
I've been hit on by several women. A couple of them were close friends. Talk about akward.

Being in the performing arts, I know a lot of gay men. I've been hit on numerous times -- sometimes seriously, sometimes just flirtaciously. There's a number of guys that I've promised will be the first to know if I ever "switch teams".
I'm as straight as they come, but I admit that at times, when my close gay friends have flirted playfully with me, I've sometimes flirted back. Hey, flirting is fun, and it's always nice for someone to find you attractive.

Nothing like a darkity looking evil :fpraise: Kaylara coming at me.
As for the gay thing it makes no differance to me at all. Then again I am bi so that changes
my look on it.
If I don't like they person who is hitting on me I just say "thanks but i am taken" or something of that effect. I would even say this when I was single just not to hurt the people and I still say it now even though it is a half truth with me and Kaylara having a open relationship.

For me the ideal would be the librarian. I don't see myself with a woman that doesn't know a bit of everything. Someone with whom I can talk to about everything and anything. I guess a librarian would be the most inclined to have a wider range of subjects to talk about.
No disrespect intended for any of the other groups I pick a librarian simply because of her access to knowledge. In reality she might very well be from any of the other groups mentioned or not metioned.

My perfect dream girl would be a mizture between Bad Girl and Gothic but not steretypical gothic and definitly not a fluff bunny. She would have to be a little sporty and have similair interestsand be nice to look at because I wouldnt want anyone else staring because my hand would get to sore. She would have to be funny, be able to carry on a good conversation, an itelligent conversation and be all round interesting.
Not to short but not as tall as me. Definitly not very femine, not to out ging but not to shy. Able to fit into a group and talk. Has to have my interests and similiar view of the world but not to much like me. Difference is always good. Well let's see...I wouldn't say that I'm a librarian...I enjoy reading, learning, and talking/arguing about just about anything...but I don't really see a librarian as a liberal, politically interested, empowered girl. I see her more as a shy bookworm. Both are good. Though in girls I definitely prefer the flaming-liberal-will-argue-about-anything over the I'd-rather-be-reading.
But I don't see very much mention of geeks. :hrmm: Best type of girls and guys. Of course, being on a high school robotics team (and having gone out with quite a few of the rest of the team) I'm probably slightly prejudiced in that. But seriously. They're probably the coolest people I know.

Men are attracted to the bad girl, then try to change her into the girl next door.
Well hey it didn't work for Ray !!!!!!!!

well my dream girl is a very hard mix to find, a cowgirl mixed with a librarian. Nothing would be better to me than a girl who can kick my ass, out ride me on a horse, then ater kicking my ass and out riding me, sitting in front of a camp fire looking at the stars and talking about life and so on until the sun comes up

Mi ideal woman would be "Cowgirl", with a mix of Librarian and Earthmother qualities.
But for the poll I voted Cowgirl. I listen to Bluegrass & Country music, and I do know how to 2-step and line dance.

Because it's all totally false. From the description it's obvious that it's all a fashion thing. Also they tend to be self-absorbed bitches.

Since I'm somewhat bisexual, I'd have to vote Librarian. I blame Final Fantasy 8 entirely for bringing Quistis Trepe (http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w106/leradny/Quistis-1.jpg) into my knowledge.
She can also gun down enemies like there's no tomorrow, and she uses a WHIP in close combat. You can't get more awesome than a librarian who can fight :D.
But seriously, I'd like a Librarian mixed with a bit of Earth Mother.

Girl Next Door, except I've NEVER been lucky enough to have attractive neighbor girls. My neighbors have always been butt-ugly. :o
I like the catholic school-girl type, looks innocent enough, doesn't smoke, maybe wears glasses and kinda mousy and skinny, but has a naughty aspect underneath.

then again i personally don't see a lot of evidence of attraction to sweet, quiet, and reserved, myself. maybe i should start quoting poetry . . .

I'm female, engaged to my dream guy and he's most likely like the opposite gender equivalent of "The Earth Mother"... that'd make him "The Earth Guy" (since he's pagan & male of course). So.. I voted for the Earth Mother one, lol.

there are a few good bits from the Iliad you could quote without being too sweet and quiet...
"... they drove the nimble chariot briskly on
through Trojans and Acheians, trampling shields
and bodies of the dead. The axle-tree
beneath was blood-bespattered; round the car
the rails were spattered; from the horses' hooves
and from the wheel-rims blood flew up in spray."

That's well and good, but wouldn't that make the "consummation of marriage" a bit... difficult?
And assuming that could be solved, I think child birth would be a bit of a nightmare. :eyez:
